  1. YAP=Yankee Air Pirates As far as I know it's a group of modders who got together and developed some WOV missions based on actual missions flown in Vietnam. They charge for the missions (I think their prices are really reasonable) and they come with tons of add-on planes, ground objects, effects, targets, weapons, etc. I guess they plan on making 100 historically accurate missions. The link to their site is below. I don't want to seem like a commercial for them, but they have good stuff. I've only got the first ten missions, but so far it's been worth it. http://www.yankeeairpirate.net/
  2. HAPPY STRAYA DAY!

Is it Burns Night, as in Robert Burns, or Burns Night, as in let's burn stuff in the street? Getting drunk, I would imagine, is an appropriate endeavor for both.
  3. I've been shooting them up with the strafing mission posted by PNT/compnt (thanks a bunch for that) ; having a blast (yes, pun intended) I'm going to also check out the YAP missions. I haven't yet tried making my own static a/c's, but I plan to give it a try soon.
  4. FRAPS

Thanks for the tips. I'll give it another try.
  5. FRAPS

I've got a two year old Dell: Win XP 80 Gb HD Pentium 4- 2.80 Ghz 512 MB RAM I've no idea how to find out what kind of graphics card/driver/whatever it's called is. I've been running WOV with all the graphics settings (except mirrors and shadow, those are off) at high and haven't had any problems. Normally it runs at about 30FPS, but when I started the FRAPS it dropped to +/- 4 FPS. I figure that I could lower the graphics settings to speed things up when "filming", but then I didn't think it would be worth putting such poor graphics on video.
  6. I think it's time I update to a new stick and throttle combo. Right now I'm just using a stick with the little built in throttle lever. It does the job, but I know my reaction times could be better if I had a dedicated throttle with a plethora of switches/options/etc. Anyway, I'm considering the Saitek x-52, mainly because it comes with the two controllers and seems reasonably priced. Does anyone have any experience using this with WOV? Are there any other controllers I should consider? Price is the the biggest factor, as I don't have much cash to spend on frivolous toys, and there really is nothing wrong with what I have now.
  7. Sorry to hear you've had a bad experience. It's a shame. One of the great things about the 3rd wire series is that they are available for a couple bucks and then you can go online and have access to all of these FREE mods. I don't think people should be dissing what someone is willing to provide to the community without any strings attached. I hope that a few bad apples aren't going to ruin this for the many appreciative and thankful (i.e. respectful) users. Personally, I don't have a whole lot of free cash but I got WOV ($8.99) and SFP1 ($4.99) and a cheap Saitek stick ($19.99) and hundreds of add-on planes, objects, effects, and terrains (FREE!!!!!!!!!). For 34 bucks I have literally countless hours of dynamic entertainment and I'm a little pissed (make that A LOT pissed) that some handful of disrespectful users could compromise what has been a wonderful community to be a part of. Again, I'm very sorry that your experience hasn't been rewarding. I don't have FE and I've not made use of your work, but I am truly appreciative and thankful for the time and effort you put into it.
  8. I'm thinking of getting a new stick

I've sent you a PM regarding the Saitek offer. I can understand wanting an Ovation. They are a really sweet guitar. Several yeras ago I sold all of my ski equipment so I could get a new guitar. It was well worth it. I don't fall on my ass nearly as much with the guitar (a few pints excepting) as I did with the skis.
  9. I've never seen this before...

Southernap, Thanks for the info. I suppose the fact that every take-off/landing is recorded explains why there is so much video out there, rather than there is an inordinate number of accidents. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
  10. I'm thinking of getting a new stick

Thanks for the input. I'm glad to get some feedback from someone who's used the stuff. If you go by the manufacturer's own write-up, you'd think each was the best thing since sliced bread. Now I just have to justify it with the wife. Should be fun.
  11. I don't know about a specific SAM trail effect (you could check in the downloads/effects section), but there is a useful speech mod that has the speaker call out the number of whom ever is targeted. I can now disregard the slew of extraneous warnings, and respond when I hear my number called out. It's increased my survival rate. The speech mod can be found here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...p;showfile=3836
  12. AFC/NFC championship.

I don't want to start any nasty arguments, but I really hope the Pats bury Indy today. I don't see it really happening, but a guy can hope. Here in New Hampshire, this game is almost bigger than the Superbowl. It's like a Sox/Yankees game.
  13. Exactly the kind of thing I've been looking for. Thanks for creating/posting it.
  14. I've never seen this before...

I did a quick check on uTube, and there are dozens of videos of planes crashing/going overboard/ pilots ejecting/ etc, with a lot of expensive aircraft going over the side. I expected it happened from time to time, but the number of videos suggests that it's a more frequent thing than I expected. Can any Navy guys clear this up for me: How often do accidents like this occur?
  15. AFC/NFC championship.

I'm going to be physically ill. I can't believe we blew it, I can't believe the Colts won. I can't believe we allowed them to come back from a 21-3 lead. Congrats, I guess...the Colts really did play well; it kills me to admit that.
  16. I noticed this little line in my member info box. What is it? And, should I be concerned? Warn: (0%) Is it warning me? If so, of what?
  17. What game are you using? Is it patched up? The more specifics you can give the easier it is to ID the issue. Give the knowledge base a read. You have to have some understanding of how things work in order to use any add-ons. Back up your stock files and then go in and play around with the info. The worst you can do is just have to reload everything
  18. I've never seen this before...

I can't imagine the kind of energy required to snap a cable like that. Catching that in the back of the legs has go to do some damage.
  19. Hi all

Welcome! I think you'll find CA full of info, mods, and lively discussion. Enjoy!
  20. Clickable Cockpits

I agree, the clickable cockpit was a novelty and had lended a certain realism to the game. But it wasn't practical; I can negotiate the keyboard without looking and without taking my right hand off the stick. A much better system in my opinion.
  21. Community Announcement

Thanks for all the hard work. It's appreciated.
  22. "IPS Driver Error" I've been getting this error message quite frequently today when browsing around the site; both the forums, and the download section. Hitting the refresh button 4 or five times usually leads to success, but not always.
  23. I thought for sure I came across an effect mod that gave the villages/cities in WOV the appearence of having lights on in some of the buildings during night flights. Does anyone know if this exists?
  24. I'm assuming it's still a WIP since I didn't see it on his site. It's a great idea if it can be done.
  25. Contest #3 Winners

    Congrats to the winners!
