  1. I tried it with the F-4E, strike mission, starting in the air and it worked fine. I suppose this suggests that there is an issue with the add-on aircraft I've been attempting to use. Any ideas on how I can get them to work?
  2. It crashes while loading. Strangely, it does work about 2 out of every 10 tries (using the same a/c, parameters, etc). I've tried starting both in the air and on the runway without any luck. I'm pretty sure I loaded it correctly- I even deleted it and reloaded to see if that had helped, but no luck. I'll try it out with the F-4E and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestions.
  3. I'm making another attempt at building a mission using KMD. The problem I'm having is when I right click on the aircraft I get Add:aircraft/ground object. I don't have an option of adding a waypoint as metnioned in the tutorial. Am I doing something wrong, or is the tutorial refering to another version of the mission editor?
  4. I've just installed SPF1 (I previously only had WOV) and I downloaded the sound mod (windloop) for background chatter. It works fine in WOV, but with SPF1 it sounds like the guys are on helium. I'm assuming it's been sped up, but I don't know how to correct. Any suggestions?
  5. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a shot.
  6. What Do You Want More??

I understand both views being expressed here, and I can't really offer anything new. All I can say is that with work, family, and other obligations sapping my time I get a few precious minutes each night to play the game. I don't want to use that time getting to the target and the related minutae. I want to jump in and fight right from the get-go. I wish I had the time to start from take-off, plan the route, manage the engine, etc. but my leisure time is very limited and I've set my priorities in terms of what I enjoy with the game. As I said, I wish I had the time to "switch fiddle", but I don't, and when push comes to shove, the enjoyment of the engagement wins out over the enjoyment of the switch-fiddling. Any future game I purchase will have to offer that "quick to the action" option for me to be interested since that's where my enjoyment lies.
  7. Consult the Knowledge Base here at CobatACE: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showforum=99 It has a dedicated article on adding 3rd party terrains: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=12230 It answered most of the questions I've had when I started adding 3rd party stuff. I still have no real idea what I'm doing so it's still quite valuable. Good luck
  8. I've had no problems with the terrain thus far. I only have WOV, so I used the VietnamSEA .cat file and it works fine. I basically just followed the tutorial regarding adding 3rd party terrain found in the Knowledge Base (I have no idea what I'm doing otherwise; I don't even know what a .cat file is!)
  9. Since I only have WOV, I used the VietnamSEA cat file and it seems to work fine. It's an impressive terrain.
  10. The game developers are in this business in order to make money; it's their job. Period. I don't think it's fair that we blame them for trying to get the most economic return on their products. That's the nature of capitalism. And it's not like the product they are supplying us is absolute crap; and no product is going to please everyone. I think we are very fortunate that the games we do play have been created in such a way that we are able to modify and change them to our own liking. At some point if you are unhappy about what is available in the marketplace you have to do something about it yourself. Either develop your own creations, or pay money to have someone else do it for you. Don't expect a game developer to put his livelihood in jeapardy in order to please a very few customers. That's bad business, and they all have mouths to feed. I just think that if you really don't like what's available, don't blame TK et. al., go and create your own sims, or modify the ones available. That old saying, "If you want it done right, do it yourself" seems applicable here. Again, I'm thankful that TK has develop a game in which I can, to a certain extent, do it myself.
  11. Not that one can draw a correlation between an airstrike/naval strike and a deliberate scuttle, but a recent documentary (Discovery Channel I think) followed the preperation for the scuttling of a retired aircraft carrier to become an artificial reef. The demo team spent weeks removing doors and hatch covers and cutting holes between sections of the ship. Even then it required several thousands of pounds of explosives to sink, and the team was uncertain if they had done enough to send her down. If anything, it demonstrates the difficulties in actually sinking such a vessel. Certainly it can be damaged severely, but to sink would require an enormous effort.
  12. As a newbie myself, I know what it's like to be overwhelmed by the amount of info available on all aspects of flight sim. Fortunately, the folks here have set up a very user-friendly section that answers most newbie questions. It's called the "Knowledge Base" and can be found here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showforum=99 It has answered nearly all of the questions I have had since I started using WOV. Additionally, over at SimHQ, there is a really well written essay by Andy Bush that explains various air to ground weapon delivery techniques that have proven very effective in WOV. Since reading the article I've significantly increased my accuracy when attacking ground objects. It's worth the read.
  13. I had the same problem in WOV. I fixed it by going into the Objects/Aircraft/F16/Data folder and changed the date of introduction of the aircraft to a corresponding year in the game. I think I made it 1970. Thereafter, the MIGs started showing up. I'm not a techie, so I don't know if there is another, more reasonable, method for fixing the problem, but it's worked for me thus far.
