  1. Just got HitR and...WOW!

It's kind of odd, you fly it for a while and you can't remember what it was like before HItR. Essentially it was just a patch, but what a patch. The game was great before but after HItR, it is so much better after, it added things that you didn't expect and improved many thing you didn't think needed it. Beard
  2. Thats a real beauty Widowmaker. Beard
  3. Taps for Multiplayer

Thanks Vasco, I'll try to catch you. By the way Hawkeye and Pit Bull are from my old RB Squadron. Recognize some of the other names too. Beard
  4. Taps for Multiplayer

I downloaded the ROF demo so I could possibly fly with you guys and my old buddies from Red Baron, but I get stutters and stall all over the place when flying offline. Have FPS from 25 to 60 but it isn't as smooth as OFF then it just plane stops for a second or two. Don't no what to tell you guys, I'll keep trying to tweak it, but if I can't fix it its a no go and I will pass on buying the actual game. By the way my system should run it fine according to what I have read. Beard
  5. Olham you really are a sign guy aren't you Beard
  6. OT This might be fun :)

Kinda looks like Crimson Skies with a theme... which aint necessarily bad ;) Beard
  7. P4 upgrade

There is no such thing as overkill, there is only more and more better Beard
  8. Modding the tactical_display.dds

Sounds to me like there is an alpha layer somewhere that needs to be edited. This is the layer that gives you "shine or depth", it is also used on the some of the plane models (like the Nieuport 17). Beard
  9. OT: World of Planes Beta sign up

Didn't work for me ;-( Beard
  10. New Member

You're lucky you didn't start with a N11, it only has 194 rounds ;) Beard
  11. Joystick

The X52 Pro is an upgrade of the X52 has some different internal parts. I dont think that Saitek even sells the X52 at their site anymore, they are readily available at Amazon. Beard
  12. Joystick

Thrustmaster also makes a HOTAS set up like the stick only that Olham referenced. The one I had was even force feed back. The advantage to the HOTAS version is the rudder is on the front of the throttle like the old Saitek X45 (I believe). Anyhoo it is a very nice stick, the only reason I don't use it still is the cleaning lady ran over the cord to the power supply with a vacuum cleaner and it couldn't be replaced here in the states, some sort of bazaar French voltage, like 14 or something. I currently use a X52 which is a fine stick but I use rudder pedals with it. Beard
  13. Your fantasy vs. the OFF reality?

The DH2 is one of my faves, I always enjoy flying it. The one that drives me crazy is the DH5, I can not get used to the wing set up. I know it sounds stupid to like the DH2 and hate DH5, but for some reason if a plane gets above and in back of me in the DH5 I just lose all spacial orientation. The same position doesn't bother me at all in the DH2. I like the N11 hate the N16 (which is a real dog), I really like the N28 though the lack of a gun site is really annoying. The easiest for me fly and aim accurately in SE5 (either A or Viper). Beard
  14. P4 DEVELOPMENT SCREENSHOTS Discussion

Same here Olham, I always try to start in the late spring or summer. My pilots never last long enough to get into the bad weather ;) Beard
  15. "Optional Flight" in Briefing screen?

It gives you the same type of mission, just a different target or route. I use it when the mission is too long, then look for a closer one. Beard
  16. What makes a Hero?

The unit I was in had a Colonel that was like that guy. I can't at the moment give you the actual facts on his Silver Star other than he was awarded it when a Sergeant in North Africa under extreme conditions. However he received the Medal of Honor as a junior officer in Korea for leading the last bayonet charge the US Army attempted, and yes it was successful. He was by all reports truly a gentleman and had the respect of all that knew and served in his command. Beard
  17. Skinning

    I use Corel Draw. Beard
  18. OT: Wings of Prey 1.0.3.9 beta patch

Ran it last night and it worked fine. Beard
  19. Armistice

I think I made it once in Red Baron (1), but I started the career 20 minutes before the armistice was signed Beard
  20. Sorry if I missed it when I skimmed through these, but level autopilot is Ctrl+Shift+A. When you hit this the plane is gonna fly all over the place until it recovers to level flight in the direction you were headed, don't panic. I think Shift+A releases it. You can use this with the Ctrl+ Shift+E which will incrementally increase the speed up (2x,4x,8x, and 16x, I think) Ctrl+Shift+R will reverse the progression and Ctrl+X will cancel it. If you get within 4nm's of an enemy the time warp and/or speed increase will automatically cancel, however I think you will have to manually turn off the Autopilot. Just a note, don't use auto trim if you use the time warp, you will fall out of the sky, and if you use realistic engine controls, adjust your mixture before you warp or the engine will die if it comes out of warp at altitude. You cant reload your machine guns, what you got is all you get. You can raise and lower the gun on the SE5 and the windshield on the N17 with Shift C, Have Fun! Beard
  21. Thinking about the TAC screen...

On the subject of the visibility of another aircraft.... Chuck Yeager, who had phenomenal eyesight, said he could see another plane at 50 miles. I asked my father about this, who also had phenomenal eyesight and was a B29 pilot in WWII, and he said that was about right. Now you have to remember this was also picking up on things like reflection off of glass surfaces, flying at high altitude and the lack of additional aids like onboard radar and air traffic control. These guys were always looking because their lives depended on it, and in the case of my father there was more than one set of eyes. In the case of reflection, when surveying we would use distance measuring equipment out to around 7 miles, in heavily wooded country. We would flash the mirror on a compass to guide the gunner (quite often me) to the location of the target. So I know that reflected light off of a very small object can get you attention at a long distance under less than ideal conditions. Beard
  22. This isn't probably the place, but is there some way for us to allow OBD to include our custom skins in the next release (phase 4)? Some of you guys have done some pretty nice historic work. Mine personally has been either post war or fictional, but if they wanted to use them they should be able to send us a release to allow it. I know that if they asked for a specific skin I would be more than happy to give it to them for the good of the sim, not to mention the templates I made to build them. Beard
