The guy Chuck Norris dreams he could be
MAKO69 replied to MAKO69's topic in Military and General Aviation
Dave, was that the rig he road into battle or a retired Charlie painted up like his. Cause it looks like an updated block, it has the low viz formation lights painted over? I guess it could be his spook if it went back stateside for an overhaul/upgrade. Lord knows all the stuff coming home from Fvckin Vietnam man, was tired. Be cool if they did a wax statue like him with the beat up bent bird in the photo (Ah yes, a crew chief and team's fav, a bent bird. reminds me of a conversation years ago between a pilot and his girls Dad. "You know sir, you keep bringing her back like this I'm not going to let you date her, she's my daughter! ). -

how i can edit aircraft data?
MAKO69 replied to alighieromoretti's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Yes welcome, some aircraft have a fixed speed that you can't modify. I have been working on the A-4 Skyhawks and A-7 Corsair II adding afterburners and I can't get more than Mach 1.15. I think there is something deep in the guts that will not allow you to mess with speeds like SF's Mother Nature says NO, that's as fast as I will allow this plane to fly, however some of the aftermarket/ add on stuff guys and gals create on their own can be tweaked a little more than the stock stuff. Good luck and tread lightly a misplaced decimal point can "F" things up royally. I suggest make a copy of the plane you would like to mod and use the copy for all your mod testing using baby steps. -

SAAB promotes Sea Gripen to Brazil & India
MAKO69 replied to MAKO69's topic in Military and General Aviation
I'm sure it will take some buckage, but the fact remains that it is a little robust strike fighter that was designed to work out of ruff strips and back country roads. I think the gear might be all set. Have you seen how thick the mains and front gear are, and if you see the next gen concept Gripen the gear look even more robust. I think this plane is over engineered to begin with. This might be one of those planes that may be easier to convert, modify, or build new carrier capable from the current design. -

If Brazil gets friendly? How do you mean? Just because a country purchases equipment from another country doesn't mean that they are allies and Brazil will support Russia if they decide to invade or go to war with another country. Is that what you mean? Its a business decision. The Russian's make pretty good equipment that is a little less expensive than other countries. Upgrades and modifications may or may not be allowed because SAAB may not want the Russians putting their Commie hands on the aircraft they designed. And yes the US State Department has a heavy influence on Brazil's military capability. Between the Brazilian Air Force and Navy there are some half dozen or so aircraft that have origins in the US, and or allies of the U.S.

Russo-British naval incident in Scotland

Their A$$Holes, with the winter games coming and terrorism in their own boarders. I think they need to rethink this rekindle of the Cold War bullshit. Putin's an a$$hat and he needs to rethink his govt. stance on stupid military mind games. -
What, a tail wind of 30 knots, why would an airport have a tail wind for the approach end, unless wind shear was the issue.

A F-14 & F-111 engine question.
MAKO69 replied to KJakker's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I don't think so. The F-14 a fleet interceptor/defender was designed to be able to dog fight. The TF 30's didn't like being throttled about, which is needed in ACM. F-111 would have taken off flown to its destination drop its stuff then fly back, hopefully with no enemy aircraft meeting them on the way there or back. -

The have had this thing for like 2+ years isn't it ready yet?

Pit bulls can be just as pleasant as any of the breeds it's how the dog is trained, treated, and raised. However, a Doberman, rottweiler, or similar dog will bite, but if over powered or injured they will release, a pit bull will clamp like a gator and not let go. Doesn't make them a bad dog they just don't quit as easy as other breeds when biting.

I have been in public safety for over 15 years, both fire and law enforcement. I have worked at an airport as an airport police officer before transferring down to the fire dept. I still work part time as an l.e.o. I was working at the airport when the TSA first started, before they had uniforms just tan pants and white shirts no lettering or patches. Don't get me wrong the TSA has some very capable and qualified people, however; a large number of TSA agents I have seen then and now when I travel resemble Danny Devito or his sister. True, anyone who has a fairly clean record and passes a firearm safety course in most states can carry a firearm, but to use such firearm in law enforcement situation in a crowded terminal comes many hours of training, and there are several other choices either side of the firearm in the escalation of force. Departments I have been affiliated with had/have very strict qualification courses for both the pistol, shotguns, and patrol rifles, moving while shooting, several shooting stances standing, prone, on ones knees, daytime, dim light, nightime, and also active shooter with several other towns in the area during school vacation breaks using simunitions. We shoot every 3 months it's an all day into the night affair. Our instructor is on the state board, so he's very strict with us we qualify to his level. During our qaul he will come by while you are shooting and say your gun arm has been shot switch and continue to the next phase with your other hand. Meaning you now have to keep up with everybody else, just now you shoot and reload one handed using diff techniques to continue. A zero tolerance stance on missing rounds, every round shot has to be accounted for, if 50 rounds are shot 50 holes best be on the paper target in the silhouette, otherwise you faiI and do it again, 2 chances total, if you fail the 2nd qual course your are pulled from patrol until you have remedial training. If you fail again then the union gets involved sanctions and or forced to resign. I say pull the reigns in on this one and think long and hard about it. http://www.jrn.com/kgun9/news/Union-wants-TSA-agents-to-carry-guns-230605521.html http://www.politico.com/story/2013/11/arming-tsa-officers-hits-resistance-on-the-hill-99345.html

Sounds like your government has the same issues as are's.

A mighty fine warplane. A lot less expensive than the Hornet, but still a very diverse and impressive war load.

Be careful handling that stuff I hear it can cause men to grow breasts. Who's to say you weren't duped into buying small piece of a black briefcase.

The F-117 was 1st gen stealth that was built back in the late 1970's and early 80's using new construction materials and methods. The F-117 made it to frontline service in 1983 and retired in 2008. There maybe some airframes at AMARC not sure, maybe someone else could answer that. Its war load sucks compared to the B-2 which came online afterward in 1997 and proved the F-117 obsolete the day it entered frontline service. Not to mention the maintenance involved with the 1st gen stealth plane was a major pain in the kock. Defense analysts 45 hrs of maintenance per 1 hour of flight for 2 bombs , when the B-2 is about 100-120hrs with a bomb load of 16-80. The F-35 was also suppose to be online or closer to being online when the F-117 was retired. Out of the 60 or so built they went through 2 wars and several other military actions. Common sense when you use your war machines during a time of war or conflicts the lifespan of such machine becomes considerably shorter. Example if not for the Vietnam war the F-8 Crusader was slated for a major upgrade that never happened due to airframes being timed or trapped out, and the F-105 was to serve into the mid 1990's with upgrades. Hope this answers your question why the plane was "scrapped", or retired to AMARC.
