The really annoying thing, Olham, is that since 2009 (!) I have been flying OFF incorrectly configured. and simply not as good as it could have been. And I take back the drink and drugs, this is down to congenital daftness. Thanks for the suggestions that lead to the solution. Cheers -
Fame at last ! Love Mrs Widowmakers geordie accent. More seriously: hate to see how the old dart is going. I left the UK in 1981, could tell the way the wind was blowing. Good luck to you and yours, mate.

If you can bear it, here are yet more DH5 screenshots. I think they are much improved: All very gloomy, bit like our summer here in Oz. Simple fix. Due to my gibbering idiocy and lack of any common sense, while I had configured OFF manager in the Nvidea control panel, I had not done so for CFS3. Once I changed the settings to the same as OFF mgr... To be frank, dear readers, I blame the drink and the drugs. (only joking, officer) Cheers -

Excitement and... dissappointment: The last shot shows some strange "UFOs" that I have never seen before. Anisotropic Filtering at 16x crashed so above shots at 8x . Clouds look very good. Hmmmm, think I'm going to take your advice, Olham, and reduce settings, maybe go back to basics and start again. Cheers -

Thanks so much, Olham, for the advice. I have just read your posts and immediately went into the Nvidea control panel to check. The AA mode was set to over-ride the App settings, so ok there. Monitor native res 1920x1080 selected in both control panel and OFF workshop, again ok. But Anisotropic filter was App controlled, so I changed it - provisionally - to 16x. Haven't tried it yet, will post the results. Excitement ! -

Hey, Olham, my card is a gtx 570. Anti-Aliasing setting is 16xQ CSAA. Do you think I should go 32x CSAA ? What is this "Q" thing anyway ? Any tips greatfully recieved . -

Hi guys, here's some DH5 screenshots, lovely weather - for ducks: Hope they come out ok - new to this. Did come across some DVs, but there were too many too far over so I ran away and hid in the clouds. Tried to get screen shots but in the excitement I must have pressed the wrong button ! Cheers -
Hi guys, odd thing just happened, new in my experience with P3, probably not yours: Flying an escourt mission (not flight leader) with 41 Sqd (DH5s) from Lealvillers 16/7/17, took off and was forming up - not climbing much which I thought a bit odd - got briefly separated when I turned the wrong way. When I caught up with them they just got lower and lower until, one by one, they went into the trees and boom. No EA present - as far as I could tell. Then the little magenta message flashed up that the mission had failed. Any ideas abt what happened ? Cheers

Hi Olham, nice shot, you are tempting me to take up an EIII career. I know you are an old hand at the tweaking game but the other day I changed, via the Nvidea control panel, from multisample to 4xSupersample. The improvement took me aback - especially the colours looked much more realistic and that annoying low altitude "mapping" - white/blue triangles - has been reduced to virtually nothing. You don't use a Nvidea card but is there a Supersample option for yours ? Worth checking out. I tried 8xSupersample but it crashed in a shrieking heap, no go for me. Sorry if I'm telling you how to suck eggs, but I can't believe how good P3 now looks. I would show you if I could get my screenshots to post . Cheers -
Hi Polovski, my HitR is patched to 1.74 so I don't think that is a problem. Not to worry, it did only happen the once. It was just so singular in my experience that I thought it may be worth posting the details just in case anybody had had similar probs. I'll persevere with DH5s (1 of my fave a/c in P3) and report back. Cheers

Hi 33LIMA, I think you have it - an AI glitch. Its never happened before and it hasn't recurred. Not even a minor inconvenience really - more part of the quirkiness and texture of P3. I have been tweaking lately and thought I may have stuffed up. Cheers

Panama: stock as a rock, mate. Olham: install absolutely per OBD. I think it must be a freakish one-off. I did another mission immediately after I posted with no probs - bombed up too. P3 still full of suprises hey. I'll get back if it happens again. Cheers

Hi 33LIMA, and thanks for info. Ki 43 a nice looking plane I must say. Must do some reading on Japanese a/force in WW2. They certainly gave the allies a run for their money - early doors anyway. It's a paradox isn't it - the worst brings out the best... Cheers -

RamblingSid replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
But are Throne of Blood and Ran, great films though they are, war films ? Certainly conflict is a theme. I wouldn't say that either the Scottish play or King Lear are "war plays" or even plays abt war in the way that, say, Saving Private Ryan has the experience of war as its central concern. RamblingSid - boring for Australia ! -

Gosh 33LIMA, did those Zeros (if that is what they were - I know, no excuse for ignorance) have aldis sights ? Mr Aldis must have been quids in. Sorry, not an entirely serious comment. Cheers -
HitR worth every cent imo. Can't come at $10 ? That's a shame. If the only improvement was the DH5 it would still, at full price, be an absolute bargain. It's all about the willing suspension of disbelief and HitR achieves this in spades. Here's to the Devs and OFF2. Cheers

Thanks, Polovski, appreciate your patience in fielding these questions. Roll-on OFF2. Cheers

OT My Favourite War Film
RamblingSid replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Don't like war films, try to avoid them now. If I want to watch something violent and real I can always watch the news (shudder). The TV documentary The Great War absolutely horrified me when I saw it as a child. It is, I believe, a very good documentary. I'm a fan of Powell and Pressburger films and if you haven't seen The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, it is well worth watching. Its strange: so many great books abt war and fighting, but great films are in my opinion very few indeed. I think there is potentially a very good film indeed in Winged Victory - my favourite novel abt WW1 flying, but I can't imagine it ever being made. In the same way think abt Pat Barker's Regeneration trilogy - superb novels that will never make it onto the screen. I do remember watching many years ago a BBC drama abt a WW2 RAF psych ward in which the inmates would recreate their last missions by the simple expedient of arranging chairs in a line representing their crew positions in a Lanc. No special effects, just lighting. Anybody here remember the title ? Cheers -
Thank you, gentlemen, for explaining: it helps to understand, always a good. I do have a further question, and apologies if this is O/T - I was just abt to download Olham's link from the Skins board when I thought "hang-on, will these skins be compatible with P4 ?" I guess not ? Cheers

Hi guys, I know we are are all agog anticipating OFF2... But I have just been mucking around with the workshop settings in P3, I thought I had them pretty well optimised, how wrong I was. Got a new system last year - i5 2500K, GTX 580, P8P67 LE Mobo, and you know the improvement was good - much smoother and a consistent 60 fps. Sliders set at 53255, replacing 52253; ground object density set low. So, bored at home the other day - bad weather had made rock fishing too dangerous - I fired up P3. Set the sliders to 53455, ground object density set high and. Have now overclocked the 2500K to 4.3 Ghz via the OC Tuner function.( I had expected to see some improvement from this but there seems to be nothing obvious.) Downsides: slight "stickiness" at low level over dromes, FPS down to abt 55-57. Have disabled the TAC and now only use lables forming up. It's like a new sim. I'm going to try 54455.

Hi Buddy1998, thanks for the suggestions. Tweaking can make a huge difference to P3, try 32xCSAA Cheers -
Thanks, Hellshade, for the insights. I'm not complaining, just mighty sad to see old P3 go Cheers
-
Pardon a probably silly question, but, does this mean that OFF2 will require the removal of OFF1 (BHH + various phases) in order to run ? Cheers

Correction: gtx 570 (not gtx 580 - I wish). Running now at 54455, very smooth but slightly sticky over dromes - as before. Improved settings have transformed the sim - and it's unmodded. Your tips, Olham, have been most useful, thank you.
