  1. Roland Scourge!

Yes the Rolands are a bit dangerous, I'd even suggest they are a bit 'ubered'. My pilot in Spring of '16 flying for RFC 29, flying the DH2, was in a flight that was 'jumped' by a squadron of Rolands passing overhead. The amount of unlimited aerobatics they engaged in while handing that flight it's hinder was a bit over the top, climbing barrel rolls and energetic loops with the observer shooting incredibly accurate shots while the attacking plane was cavorting about. I even enlisted a new German pilot just to test the Roland out. It's way too zippy and maneuverable for a plane the briefing describes as, "...considered nose heavy and tricky to fly by novice pilots." I'm sorry, the Roland in OFF is a slightly porky Buecker Jungman in disguise. Beware! There are some tricks you can do if you encounter it and it decides you're fair game, If flying Nupes with the French, use your better speed and aerobatic ability to keep the tailgunner occupied while you try to maneuver for a belly shot. If you're flying a BE2 keep your distance, if in a DH2 try to keep way under under the Roland's own six and keep moving about. When making a side attack, dive under it instead of veering off or over after shooting a burst,. remember to keep moving. And, if you find your self in the lucky position of being underneath one pull in a whip stall turn while underneath it and put a few rounds in it's cute little blue belly for good measure. I'd rather not tangle with them.
  2. Thinking about the TAC screen...

I think a future request would be to allow 'importing' of a better resolution map from a folder within OFF. And this is where it would be tricky, allow the user to move and zoom it much like a Google Earth map.
  3. Oh yeah, yup I just had a killer skin and story behind the aircraft. I must practice patience
  4. Thinking about the TAC screen...

I think it was mentioned in the other 'labels' thread that some of us are running lower resolutions, so some of us have to rely a bit more on visual aids. I've been flying with the labels off and the tac circle on only when I notice flak bursts nearby. My strategy here lately is to completely ignore the waypoints as the game wants me to play them by pressing "X" for next waypoint, and instead just climbing as much as possible while in the vicinity of the home airbase, and then heading off on the mission at about the cloud base's height or a little higher. It's easier to see flak bursts against the white of the clouds, as are aircraft.
  5. Sorry, 1918, should have been more clear
  6. From what I gathered Bruno was CO of Jasta 26, and then was CO of JG III in August of '18 The DRI in Jasta 26 was used from early April to June 17th, I'm not sure that the DRI of Bruno's went with his transfer of command, they were flying DVII's soon afterwards though.
  7. Is it possible without making the edited aircraft unavailable?
  8. What if we don't have HiTR yet?
  9. Bye Bye Osama

Apparently some guy living in the immediate neighborhood next to OBL's compound, Tweeted about the attack.. IT consultant indavertantly Tweets Bin Laden's coupound attack
  10. Bye Bye Osama

It's definitely a smoking gun against our "allies" the Pakistani's. I sometimes wonder what would have been for Pakistan if Benazir Bhutto hadn't been assassinated. She was hated by the Islamic hard liners.
  11. I suppose I'm not looking close enough, is there some ID text in that screenshot?
  12. PC Dying? Need Help

That's a good idea, but it would be good to keep notes from the original system to also help isolate the problem, especially if the original motherboard has suddenly developed a fault that causes a high current use. This would be to check the PS voltages against the original board's electricity consumption.
  13. Thought I'd post this video, Mossie, who is the lead of developer for Richthofen's Skies has been working on and off with this fellow in Germany. It's amazing what this small workshop has achieved. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abb9uT_sbWc
  14. PC Dying? Need Help

One way to confirm this is to have a good DVOM ( Digital-Volt-Ohm-Meter ) that you trust the voltage readings from, something like a Fluke or similar. And do a real time voltage test during boot up Check both the 12 volt and 5 volt side of the PS while booting up. This is usually a time when power use is spiking, drives are spinning up, the board is doing it's POST diagnostic, checking RAM, and the fans are drawing more current as they spin up. This is, if you are comfortable with working on your computer with it's side off and your hands in the wires. But it will give you a definite baseline to check from. Any 12 volt voltage reading lower than 12.15 would be suspect, as would anything below 5.1 on the 5 volt side of things.
  15. Olham's Porn

I'm at a little over two weeks since my machine was first turned on. It's been going great, I've been slowly doing some small mods to it. The Gigabyte SP2 series has a small Northbridge that runs a bit warm compared to the rest of the MB and CPU, so I've mounted a little fan directly over the Northbridge heatsink. I'm getting consistently lower M'board temperatures in the Motherboard and CPU temperature monitor application. I find that it's not above 33 degrees C. for either the Northbridge or the CPU. Although when running OFF for a long time the mainboard will creep up to about 42 c. Oddly the CPU stays well below even 34 c. No monitor for the EVGA GPU though, but from just resting my finger on it when the side is off it's staying well below anything considered hot.
  16. Thanks Olham for posting this. You know that the Messine craters forming those lakes were from those huge underground explosive mine caches the Canadian and New Zealander "diggers" dug tunnels for? I would almost be certain that with some diving gear and some luck you would find the old mine shafts, that these explosives were delivered through are still extant.
  17. I recall reading somewhere that the Pfalz had a smaller aft fuselage cross section and smaller vertical stab-rudder and consequently less rudder authority and less prop blast yaw stability. It was considered a stellar diver. The config file for the Roland has in it's description entry that it was considered too nose heavy and was tricky for novices, especially to land? My test flights show if anything it's a gentle, neutral handling, aircraft that is really forgiving to land. It actually tends to balloon and slow considerably when flared at about 60~50 mph. No, not nose heavy in the least.
  18. Well if you think that would be wise, I was just wanting to make a small change to the SE5a to make it closer to the original 150 Hisso engined prototype. Thanks Pol
  19. OT Your Royal Wedding Invite name

So did anyone else see the video of the Spitfire-Lancaster-Hurricane over flight of the wedding? That was pretty awesome.
  20. Show your finest Claim

I've just changed my claims from easy to realistic and I'm adding more info. I'm going to see what little information I can add, or get away with, a bit more of that Dirk Gently attitude towards forms and bureaucracy. I would assume that if the fight is over an airfield, ( about 60% of mine have been either over or real close to one..) that the airfield would have confirmed the planes and squadrons involved. I mean that big 200' high bank on the NW corner of Etrun airfiled is where a few of the Albatros and Pfalz pilots ended their lives in Taylor's last big sortie. Shirley there would be a crowd from the field crew watching and keeping score? Not to rely to much on ground witnesses, but someone has to corroborate your clams, correct? I.E. a 'witness' In Mason's "The Escadrille Layfayette" there are a lot of kills of Esc 124 confirmed by ground forces and other terrestrial witnesses.
  21. Thanks for the link, I'll have to give that a spin in CFS3. Well about OFF, I like quite a few things about it, but I have some niggling complaints. The Camel, if anything, is a bit too forgiving. You can spin a 500' diameter circle banked over at 60 degrees, above confused Albatros's all day if you wish. Going into some of the aircraft's config files is enlightening. I notice in the section that establishes the flight dynamics, that there are parameters for gyro precession, but one of them is listed for 'roll' which is entirely incorrect. I haven't tried playing with it yet but I should give it an edit and see if it will accept 'pitch'. The reason the Roland swerves left and right with pitch inputs is that it has a full "1.00" as the 'scalar' for the 'yaw' precession. I don't think this is correct, the Roland doesn't have a rotary engine. Also one other problem is that when engine damaged, the AI aircraft will sometimes assume a steep nose high angle and slowly sink, tail first, into the ground. Most of my kills end this way. It's a bit like a blimp that's lost it's buoyancy but is trying to stay airborne on pure thrust alone. I think there are some wing center of pressure - AoA anomalies in this sim. All in all it's still a great sim, the flight effects add to the challenge of flying the planes, but I really like the inter dynamics of the encounters between enemy squadrons. Although I think the 2 seaters would be better if they executed the weaving defensive flight that RB3D's aircraft do when attacked from the same or lower level. I stalked a group of Rolands with my DH2 squad, sat right under their lower 6 for about 5 minutes before they noticed something was wrong and then they dived for the deck. I'm sorry this is really OT, and we should return to the game.. Cheers
  22. Well I expect them to be fast, but they seem to keep their energy in turns and climbs far too well, and they are also quite manuverable. Moreso than I would expect. I'm stuck with the impression I got from RedBaron3D's Full Canvas Jacket mod FM for their Rolands. Where they flew more like heavy Albatros DII's. I like CFS3's bomber fighter bomber missions. I had a couple of pilots with careers flying torpedo bomber missions with the B25, I really like that old can. Except when the ubered Bf109's showed up and made life not so pleasant.
  23. Show your finest Claim

Well I've vultched a couple of DIII's in my RFC 13's career flying RE8's. They were low and occupied with tailing a flight of Sopwith Strutters. It's almost like it doesn't count. My first pilot in #13 died 20 seconds after his wheels left the sod when a flight of DRI's did a airfield strafe, I hadn't even checked his six yet!
