  1. OT: Fraps

OK some searching found this forum's list of some freeware, Fraps type of game video recorders. I'm trying out GameCam, and Gregion, and I'll get back to you guys with a report. Cheers
  2. OT: Fraps

Is there a good freeware solution to compressing the .avi file Fraps creates?
  3. Olham's Porn

Gah! you all win, my system is a mere pup compared to these heavyweights, I'm not sure I can even overclock my CPU or the GPU. But that's OK I get about 40 fps averages with active weather, numerous flak bursts and a few aircraft in the screen.
  4. Howard Wright monoplane

Have you checked the archives of The Aerodrome Forum's Pioneering Aircraft subforum? Some of the participant's in Breguet's Pioneering quiz threads are pretty sharp. In particular the forum member known as Kees from the Netherlands knows a lot of arcana.
  5. Happy birthday Mike, night on the town with the missus?
  6. In trooth this isn't so much a "trim" control as much as it's a control force biasing control. It has spring preload, look at the two long cylindrical thingies hanging down from the two clevises, those my friends are big honking springs, and because of this, like Lou said, there's a tendency for the DH2 to fly somewhat light in the nose, in other words there's considerable arm effort expended on the part of the pilot to keep the plane from constantly climbing. These springs help to "bias' the effort required to keep the control stick forward. Seems that we just get into a bunch of persnickety semantics over the name, other wise I think we all agree what this control does.
  7. Frankly I was suprised and feared that I would be made to sit in the "comfy chair".
  8. Well from cockpit details included in the Dh2 in Targetware's Richthofen's Skies it's certainly connected to the joystick's crosspiece through those two springs as a preload sort of spring force for the elevator control. I can bring up a screen shot if it's needed. Not to say that RS has the definitive answer, but the folks working on the 3D models did a lot of research on the interiors.
  9. I'd do it in a heartbeat but the forum for MP is anything if not a bit depressing to read, it seems that MP for OFF is 'officially dead"? I spent a goo deal of coin upgrading for Richthofen's Skies online just a couple of weeks before they pulled the plug on TargetWare's 0.64 servers. Once bitten..
  10. If anyone here has heard a WWI era Vickers fire, they were pretty slow rate of fire, I think 400 RPM is considered normal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPv_f_aSyP4
  11. Sorry, I'll wait out a couple of turns, FWIW I was flying this between posts and I couldn't help myself. .. Lou got the first two correct, the GII was called by MvR "the Great Apple Barge" when he served with the Ostend Carrier Pigeons flying this maxicrate. Of course Lou's answers don't count.
  12. OK this is a bit OT in that it's not P4 screenshot related, but.. What is this aircraft? What was it's historical significance? What was Richthofen's nickname for the earlier version of this aircraft?
  13. question 1;, 'What was a variation of this aircraft's most famous contribution to air combat?' 1. Yes Creaghorn partially correct as the deflector blades were the most crucial element to shooting a gun through a prop arc, BTW the single seat 'L' was the first use of the MG deflector blades for the prop in air combat, and consequently the first through prop 'fighter' in air combat. question 2; 'What is the aircraft that inherited this aircraft's innovation, and it's also the one that gets the most mention as this innovation's first use, which it wasn't.' 2. Yes I will give this to Creaghorn because I didn't specify whether the aircraft in the question was Entente or German. I was looking for the Morane Bullet as an answer but as you know Garros deadstick landed behind German line with his single seat Morane Saulneir 'L' and wasn't able to burn it before the being captured. The rest is history, and why we have WWI flight combat sims. question 3; 'what famous French ace got his first combat win in this aircraft?' 3. Yes, good show! you could have as easily said Garros, but he wasn't as famous and hadn't actually had his first victory in the two seater variant of the MS L. Creaghorn's turn...
  14. On creaghorn's say so I'm going to post this.. the questions are assuming you know what this early war kite is 1. What was a variation of this aircraft's most famous contribution to air combat? 2. What is the aircraft that inherited this aircraft's innovation, and it's also the one that gets the most mention as this innovation's first use, which it wasn't. 3. And what famous French ace got his first combat win in this aircraft?
  15. I'm sorry, am I invisible? I fired up FS-WWI just to check my answers..
  16. 1. Albatros DII 2.It had it's upper wing set lower to improve the pilots field of view. The fuselage to upper wing cabane struts where changed from a set of inverted "V"s to the "N" struts with this model. 3. Those are the paired fuselage mounted engine radiators, this was changed when mounted in upper wing center with the DIII.
  17. I'm looking at the Gotha GIV in WN's customer's models images and I can almost imagine the clicking sounds of the cooling Mercedes, the hot oil and benzine smells. It's a beautiful model. The Areodrome always has a static model builder who goes all out. That LVG is exceptional. I'd also like to direct your attention to this thread at RCGroups..SuperSize me, BE12 build and this thread by the same author..Super Size me FE8 Check out the pictures in the thread of his pitot tube details.
  18. I thought I had killed this thread and it had such potential. anyways.. 1. Yes 2. yes 3. Yes Olham wins this round.
  19. Most successful mission yet

If you're stationed in the Arras area you can expect to have lots of Albatri encounters in the Spring and Summer months of 1917. Just don't expect them to all be doing savvy patrols. They seem to have this fondness for following behind Strutter flights, completely oblivious to who is behind them. They're kind of like lost puppies.
  20. I was going to say Amiens, but Our Lady of Amiens Cathedral looks nothing like this... and the steep pitch of the town house buildings in Creaghorn's image reminded me of Ypres, I was mistaken to think the toppled statue was on the Amiens Cathedral. So I get to do the next one, it's a bit like Breguet's Aircraft challnges on The Aerodrome eh? Hmmm.. 1. What is the Aircraft in this cockpit image? 2. Was there alternative ways of carrying the ammo drums, and what were they and where were they mounted? 3. The lever just aft of the fuel pressure gauge, what was it's function?
  21. I'm sorry, but you'll have to be content with a longer answer.. Well this is all speculative, considering we're guessing about screenshots from the developer's latest improvements and we're not in the knowledge loop about whether they've actually run the clock forward to reflect the level of damage to the buildings. You can fly any aircraft in QC, irregardless of the time the active pilot(s) enlists.
  22. I'll venture.. 1. Ypres. 2. Sopwith Snipe. 3. The buildings aren't a shattered ruin
  23. Yup, Huzzah! good for you Olham, getting that rig going is fantastic. I''ve got OFF on mine and it's pretty nice. still need to fine tune things and eventually get some sort of DIY track IR setup.
  24. That's funny,, I own this old Mercedes Benz 280 which has the 2.8 liter inline 6 cylinder in it. It's a rough old beast, but I had the notion at one point to start to repaint it in 5 color lozenge and had invisioned having a pair of fake Spandau's for the hood. I got as far as sanding the rust spots and discovered the tinworm was too far advanced to make it worthwhile. It 's still a neat old vehicle, I sometimes fire up the old engine and imagine it's a Mercedes 160.
