  1. Fateful Morn II

The the tire the wheel the mechanic is working on in the tent appears to be from an automotive wooden wheel. Is it supposed to be an aircraft wheel? They tend to be smaller. Since we're posting Richthofen stuff I found this in a link at the Wings of War website..Baron Manfred v. Richthofen's journal
  2. P4 AI suggestion / request

Sounds like Hellshade wants an 'Albert Ball' setting in configuration,... ( I keed.....)
  3. Olham's "The Albatross D series channel: all of the Ably D series, all of the time!" Too bad you couldn't develop an additional enthusiasm for the Albatross DoppleTauben, or the "Great Apple Barge" or maybe a few of the C series.
  4. Yes, I agree, at least the Rumpler CIV, Halberstadt CLII, AWK 8, DH4, I'd go as far as suggesting a few late 1915 to 1916 French lattice tails, like the Voison LA2, Farman Horace F40, Caudron GIV, and Breguet Michelin IV.
  5. Can you edit campaign's? One fun thing to try would be to recreate the bomber flight from Luxiel to Obendorf with a heavily loaded BE2c or Fee. Trying to fly over the Vosges with a reluctant to climb old chicken coop would be challenging enough, add some Eindekkers stirrred up by your overflight on the return trip.
  6. OT Favourite TV Theme tune

Well it's actually a bit short but it's catchy and the animation is pretty cool for 8 bit tech. The little Tetris like animation/games they've had on past shows are a riot. Like the 'Employee of the Month' one, unfortunately , it's not on 'Channel 4's' list
  7. Well I just got my OFF BHaH dvd, certainly within the time frame I expected, but.. Has anyone had their shipping package severely damaged? I haven't checked out the DVD in the player yet, but the box it came in, was the box it was shipped in. And it arrived badly crushed on one end. I was really not wanting to start this thread, but I'm a bit miffed, the plastic holder for the DVD is broken severely on one end. the DVD appears to be intact. Considering the cost of the shipping I'd have expected at least a better, more sealed bubblewrap envelope or a box with padding. My Saitek joystick was stoutly boxed and well padded. It also appears that my box was previously opened, there was no tape sealing the end flap, and the tabs on the flap were wrinkled like they had been pulled open a couple of times. Not sure what to do..
  8. Well the DVD does read and tries to install on my old AMD machine. I'm having trouble with it reading on the external drive of the laptop I intended the installation to go onto, but it may be the drives fault. It doesn't normally have trouble with CD's and movie DVD's. I've already sent an Email to Avangate let's see what they say first.
  9. If you've read John McKenzie's ongoing thread at The Aerodrome, you'll get an idea of what it's like to build a authentic WWI plane from scratch. He built an FE2B replica for the RAF museum. It's an epic thread and it makes building planes for OFF look almost easy. ( which it ain't..) His handiwork is fantastic, but I swear that the hours and tooling involved would give most proficient metalsmiths, toolmakers and woodworkers fits. He built all of it, including most of the tooling, by hand. The radiator core was made, cell by cell, from copper sheeting and tube. Skills that have not been in use for over a century. I appreciate what the dev's here are doing, every time I open gmax and try to work on my simple, little projects.
  10. P4 update Please.......

I had to look that one up, It's a Frisian Island style of tea, do you do yours with the rock sugar or Kluntjes and cream? Sounds a little to sweet, I have to watch my sugar intake, so I've been using dark Agave syrup as a sweetner. Our store's supplier of herbs and spices has said that the real Sri Lankan Ceylonese tea is getting harder to find, and that sometimes it's more likely from India. Some Assams, to my taste are a bit intense.
  11. Well in contrast, the CFS3 CD I ordered prior to this came in a substantial bubblewrap envelope, that appeared to have weathered some scuffs along the way, but it was in otherwise perfect shape when opened. The OFF dvd 'box', the rather thin, white, non corrugated cardboard box that the plastic DVD holder resides in, was pressed into service as the shipping box. Without any tape. Usually the USPS will seal up a loose flap. The damage to the DVD box is substantial, it's spine is split up from the damaged end, nearly in half, the label is the only thing holding it together, both bottom edges of the halves of the shell are broken away and were lollygagging about inside the box. These are the same boxes our Library uses for it's DVD's and they are generally pretty tough compared to the Styrene crystal cases most CD/DVD's come in. Once I pop the DVD free of the case and place it in the DVD drive it's not returnable, right? So I'm basically f#(ked if it's also damaged.
  12. Yes, I'm pretty well aware of the standard USPS reply to problems like this, my gripe is with the sender's packaging quality, which was substandard at best, and would have avoided the hamfisted USPS treatment if it had been better boxed. all of this I assume is an Avangate problem. What I'm asking here is what everyone else's experience with Avangate, did their box arrive sans armor?
  13. Thank you uncleal, your sardonic observations have been noted. I guess I've been spoiled too long with having shipping from CA arrive in an undamaged condition, what was I expecting... So before I fire off Emails to OBD it was Avangate that did the shipping, right?
  14. P4 update Please.......

How would you rate Bentley's product as of late? We normally get our Ceylonese and Earl Grey as bulk from a whole foods store.
  15. Well it was shipped from Livermore, CA ..
  16. You haven't heard of John Prine? That song is great, one of the best he's done, a humorous song about an aspect of Jesus' life that is the cause of vociferous forum arguments that will stretch into the hundreds of posts. Everyone seems to be an expert on what Jesus was doing as a youngster.
  17. Olham, You recall our first conversation about 3D modelling? I've been at this for a while, I've built numerous models over this time, and with each new venture I've discovered that the learning curve gets forever steeper. With each new platform, I've also discovered there are development limitations, hassles, and leftover 'bugs', that the previous developers didn't fix or documented poorly, and I'm in no way suggesting that OFF has this as a major problem, but to be honest, I believe a lot of volunteer effort sims have bugs, kludges and workarounds. It's the level of the knowledge base and the documentation of the process that will make or break a neophyte's effort in this. . What's going on with OFF right now is that the interiors alone are upwards to about 35 to 50 thousand polys. I just finished a model I that I estimate is pushing 9000 polys for the entire model. I've got many weeks into it, and I've yet to align, import and map the model. The level of detail in OFF steps out out of the freeware/volunteer effort range, in my estimation. Then to add to the complexity, there's the various aspects of damage modelling and flight modelling. Add this all up and in my perspective it would be nice to keep a low poly count aspect to a sim you want to add to in a volunteer manner. Just IMHO. It's a hobby, do you want to continue to have time to fly in OFF? On top of learning to use G-max, (or 3D Max if you want to send the coin,) there's the requirement of getting AirWrench, which I suspect is payware, and learning to use it, for the flight modelling. I'm not trying to dissuade you, as this sim has a lot going for it, but one should be going in with the perspective of what is required time and effortwise, and what has gone on before with others who have given it their best... These are just my observations from the belly of the beast so to speak.
  18. I've got a YouTube tab opened right now to a video of the Focke Wulf 190 at the 2009 Duxford airshow, the big BMW radial on it makes some nice noises. But I suspect your internet Police limits this video.
  19. It was posted in an RC model forum a couple years back, and (sorry..) yes, it's pretty awesome. Quite a lot of work on the 3D rendering, shading and animation. although I will say that the taking off and tucking the wheels while only staying a few feet off the deck doesn't seem like good piloting, at least to me.
  20. Yes, and in my best William Shatner voice, " In.. Heaven.. there.. Is.. No.. Beer....."
  21. Yes the Daimler-Benz Benz engines were mechanical fuel injected, not unlike some of the 6 cylinder Mercedes Benz sport coupes of the 60's. I had a chance to drive a 1968 SL250 once, it was pretty perky for as heavy as it was. I think the German, or maybe I'm confusing it with Swedish, word for fuel injection is 'Enspritzing'?
  22. The temptation to post another is very strong.. must... fight... urge...
  23. For shame! There are lots of post 2000 bands and songs worth listening to, you just need to go look for them.. My favorite , all time greatest, is the Decemberists' "The Crane Wife 3" from the Crane Wife album. Probably the best album so far of the new century. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmhVY2PLc-c&feature=related I also like Death Cab for Cutie's Transatlanticism album, but we're being requested to not post multiple songs.
  24. OT: What's In Your Night Sky?

There's good evidence that our local group of stars have planets orbiting them. It's not too big of a stretch to figure that there might be earth-like worlds or probably more likely that there are life processes we haven't considered on planets we'd consider not life sustaining. . A lot of big "if's" in the whole schema. Most of our local star group are part of another small star cluster that the Milky Way 'collided' with and scavenged, many hundreds of millions of years ago. What those early Earth night skies looked like would probably astound us today, as what we see is very little of the Milky Way's light, as it's filtered by a lot of stellar dust and gas clouds.
  25. OT: What's In Your Night Sky?

I would have to say that it would be arrogant for us to think we're the only smart creatures in the near galaxy. And who's to say that what makes up our world, our science, maybe even our periodic table of elements and perceptions of what is called 'living' are the only way it is in the universe? My wife and I saw something in the 90's, in the early evening night sky, at friend's house, that we both still can't explain. Oddly enough no-one else saw it, but they were all inside at the time and we were both chided for having too much to drink.
