  1. Ah, so there are supposed to be body objects in OFF's cockpits Targetware had to different models for the extrnal and internal. Sorry to contribute confusion, I was wondering why some of OFF's aircraft had body objects.
  2. Once a flight of Fokker EIII's have spent their 'E' in a dive, don't they take a long time to recover and get back on top of the six of the flight they just stalked?
  3. From a 3D modeller/mod's POV if you are seeing the pilot 3D meshes from the cockpit view, you forgot to change the internal view's exclusion of the pilot's object. I had a couple of targetware models that I forgot to remove the body object from and when you 'materialized' into your cokpit view it was from within side the object's "head" which was pretty weird as certain polys that you should have seen through were showing, when you did a look down you'ld be looking at the chin and upper torso and noticing how angular it all was. I thought it was a bit creepy. Besides the required morphing or keyframe modelling to make the pilot mesh move like a real body would eat up a lot of your video RAM's overhead.

  5. Just set the trim wheels for a gentle turn, way to the west of the front, let nature take it's course.
  6. OT: I've Done It!

ArgonV is one of the best! Consider joining the forum as he's most active there. But also consider getting the free Aussie DVD .iso of the old game, ( it's listed in the Fighter Squadron Forum) as there are several WWII mods in the works right now,, and (aherm,,) my Pioneers of Flight, sort of "Those Magnificent Men" mod which will have blimps, balloons, and blunderbusses, and many old rickety sub 50 mph top speed early aviation crates.
  7. OT: I've Done It!

Get the third option .exe download and all of it's add-ons, and check out the forum, because there's new stuff afoot. It's not OFF, but it isn't the the old SDOE either, there's been a lot of recent improvements.
  8. OT: I've Done It!

Is the SDOE based Fighter Squadron WWI in there? It's free.. FS-WWI IIRC there's an Austrailian website that has the original Parsoft SDOE game in a downloadable .iso so you can pick up the rest of the new old mods ongoing for SDOE.
  9. I've seen this in other sims, it's actually a useful feature if you're checking out a 3D model you're importing to the game.
  10. What is controlling the AI?

I think there's quite a few conflicting realities about the real deal vs. sims, especially in the WWI arena. Real life had rather scattered and dispersed flights at many different altitudes. Sims tend to concentrate action through the unrealism of tracking your enemy from a distance, that tends to be greater than human capable line of sight, which is really hard to duplicate in a flat screen monitor, no matter what the resolution. Most enemy engagements were first sighted by eye. Try flying with the aids turned off more? Bad weather also made sighting an enemy even harder, and look at all the bad weather OFF has you flying in. I also think that sims have a tendency to generate missions with more activity, closer together, than what was historically accurate. Another thing to consider is that realistically the Germans were really loathe to go much farther West than the Entente's front lines unless expressly tasked with ground support or aggressive Allied back line suppression of ground targets in the heat of a big offensive. During the Circus years they were more than happy to patrol as far West as just in front of the back areas of their front lines knowing that Uncle Boom's 'Long Shadow' would be cast far into their own airspace. I read a lot of reports in this forum that have Jasta's crossing far over the front, especially glaring is the Fokker Eindekker squads attacking Allied planes over the Allied front which was verboten, considering the Fokker's interrupter gears secrecy. I think a lot of other facts have been previously discussed, it needs to be clarified that usually, especially during the 'off times' for the sides like Bloody April for the Brits, that the older pilots were much more aware of what they faced and tried to avoid getting tangled too badly in a fur ball that had odds against them. Same with the Germans during the Waning Eindekker months prior to the Flying Circuses.
  11. Since Bullethead added a fictional element to this time travel, I would have to go back to a fictional late 1917 summer episode which borrows heavily from a couple of Arch Whitehouse stories with my own twists thrown in...
  12. Well if the TW and FS-WWI HP O/400's are anywhere near to 'real', The field of fire of the rear gunner(s) was pretty good, as there was also a ventral mounted Lewis on a pintle mount of the floor through a hole in the underside. The biplane tail surfaces don't block much of the upper rear gunner's arc, it's enough though, especially when you've got a determined and smart DVII pilot using it as a shield. It's a fairly fast aircraft for it's size, although it won't outrun much, it will make a chasing fighter take longer to arrive if they don't have a big height advantage.
  13. Well there was a strategic bombing program that the RNAS had sort of decided was their baby, and when Trenchard combined the two forces in 1918, ( over much wrangling and protest..) the IAF (?) was formed and was used to put RNAS' strategic bombing program under. Didn't they also have an American squadron flying night bomber HP O/400's out of the Marne? They did a bit of behind the lines bombing. Arch Whitehouse has described IAF Handley Page operations in his fictional WWI stories, and in reality they did a bit of Northern Flanders target softening, airfield strikes, in addition to bombing important bridges East of Brugges as the Germans were being pushed out of Belgium. I'm suprised that there wasn't more reliance upon them from the beginning, as the RNAS had a particular thorn in their side about the submarine bases in Zeebrugges, and it wasn't that far from Naval 5's airfield at Petite Synthe.
  14. Interesting that a plane so universally loved by it's pilots would be 'hated' so, just because of the addition of a second gun. You'ld think of all the deaths the Camel had caused in operational accidents would have also given it an equal despising. There were what, four different engine types used in the Camel? I mean the early versions were fitted with Clerget 130 hp, which were what the Bentley company copied when they made the BR1. This was the same engine used in the Tripehound, and I can't think of a better airframe to use the Clerget in, even with the extra weight of a second gun.
  15. I hate to say it but... Both Targetware and Fighter Squadron WWI have had the Handley-Page 0/400 for a few years now. Targetware also had the 0/100. Of course both models were fairly low poly count, but the TargetWare 0/400 in particular was FM modeled to a nice extent.
  16. OT Scared s@#tless

The latest Dr Who, actually the third season with David Tennant had a couple of corker shows, 'Blink' is one that comes to mind. Yeah I know, it's considered a kid's show in the UK, but compared to what we adults have to watch ( shudder, endure..) from our own productions, it's still light years better in storytelling.
  17. OT Scared s@#tless

Hook them up to generators and you could power your house on zombie power.
  18. I would have to wonder if the shipping from the UK for a DVD is cheaper? I'm assuming anything shipped from outside the Continental US isn't. We bought our DVD player a while back and discovered you could unlock the region free option with a code that was listed online.
  19. P4 update Please.......

I agree, but has anyone seen the interior shots of the HP 0/400 of the sim that should not be named? JMOHO I would say they are pretty comparable.
  20. Posting Screenshots

You can also directly uplaod them via the Attachments feature below the text printing space in reply. It helps if the images are in .jpg format.
  21. French Replicate a/c

And to complete my onerousness about not so 'French' aircraft, how about a Flyby of 3 Brazilian designed, but flown in France replicas... Yeah take that France, your first man to build and fly a Continental aircraft was a Brazilian expat.. Oh yeah, well your mother smells of Elderberries.
  22. French Replicate a/c

Not a replica, but an R/C model of a Hanriot HD1, which is a very rarely made WWI fighter either as a simulation, R/C model or actual full scale plane.
  23. French Replicate a/c

Actually not a replica but a restoration, my favorite aircraft from the EnZed Vintage Aviators collection.
