Nostalgia? maybe.. More that the gameplay was engaging, just like OFF. You have to understand we got to OFF on the shoulders of those who made RedBaron into a reasonable simulation that was far more immersive than it was stock. And I'm comparing it also to one of the other sims in that Combat Flight sim collage you posted, Flying Corps Gold which was really not so great in game play, although it did have really cool ground activity and very accurate maps and terrain. But it had no campaign worthy of the name.

Once you get used to the way the game spawns enemy flights you'll start noticing a certain pattern evolve, I hate to say that you can 'game' the sim this way, but you can. This is why I often 'customize' my sorties. Because the game will always set you up for an enemy encounter at one or more of your waypoints. It's a CFS3 thing. If it gets too annoying, you can always set your encounter levels to low in Workshops.

Actually one of the most common German two seaters of the early to mid war is coming in P4, the Aviatik. There was such a diversity of German two seaters, but really, they were so close to one another in performance that one plane could cover for a lot of the different makes. It's what I noticed about Western Front patch when they added the additional two seaters from 1915 onwards, that the various Rumplers and such were really not much different from the venerable old Aviatik in performance, and defensive weaponry. One note about the present BE2, at least in 1915-1916 Campaigns, is it does well when you pick your fights. You can actually give an Einie a hard time by fighting it out close at lower elevations, especially if you have Bristol Scouts that are escorting. If you are good, you'll save the lives of a few Bristol pilots. Same thing for the 'arry Tate, it can be flown well offensively just like a slower Bristol FB2, if, you pick your situations well.

Did you ever try out the various mods for RB3D like Full Canvas Jacket or the various guises of Western Front Patch and Pol's own Reload patch? It's the sole reason I kept my old VooDoo 4500 vid card for so long.

I'm going through the lods on some of my shadow models to straighten out the f0 register. I can appreciate what work you've done with the models I've sent. You know, there's gotta be a basic command line text modifier that can do batches of letter conversions per row in .txt.

OK I tried to setup the first big download, if I'm doing something wrong, it's not quite evident. because it appears this software is buggy beyond belief. It initializes fine but hangs at a requirement for a number of different .dlls included in a zipped .cab file. (There are no included instruction of how to set up the various included C++ runtimes and other required programs. Apparently you also need to have TrackIR running in the background..) But just for starters, it is unable to find the required .dll in the included cab files when directed to it, and even when you extract the .cab file(s) and they are put it into FaceTrack's root directory, it doesn't see it. This for me is a major problem, considering V4Friend came onto our forum touting this software as a useable program. Maybe, if you have the patience of Job and a degree in programming you can make this work, but the average sim junkie is going to delete this file from their directory after messing with it for a couple hours. The admission by V4Friend that you might have to run this program on a separate computer set up as a client server continues to prove that Mr. V4 has no clue about average sim users. It says to me that this program is a huge resource drain and will probably not work well especially in the realworld of folks with lesser systems. I'd like to hear form V4 about this.....

@ Lima33 According to TracknoIR you need version 1.4 and TIRviews .dll.

Well take it all with a bit of enlightened sodium chloride. I think the reason I got Freetrack to work well on my 'puter is that I've set mine up with the simple, 2 axis, single LED track device. And my camera is an ancient Aiptek webcam which has been in Windows legacy Cab files since the Win2K dinosaur days. It's a slow camera though at 25 FPS and it drops quite a few frames at times to jitter. The basic freetrack single LED setup uses hardly any CPU overhead and I lose maybe a couple of FPS's in gameplay, which I'd expect that NoirTrack would be more rescource hungry because it has more CPU clock cycles tied to face recognition shapes, instead of a keeping track of a few little bright spots moving around. Making the LED device should be easy, I can find little LED keychain lights at our local dollar store, they run for hours on the little coin-cells. Converting them over to something more rechargeable shouldn't be a big deal, as the same bargain stores sometimes have little USB Li-Ion auxiliary batteries for MP3 players that should run white LEDs without the need for a resistor. I've also seen little USB port rechargeable LED micro flashlights for under $7. Being able to cobble together stuff and having a bit of an electronics background is a big help in this venture. Like I said, grain o' salt.

Having grown adzuki and alfalfa sprouts for over 20 years I have to scratch my head over how the contamination happened, it's just so completely off the wall.

I don't frequent the OT forum here at CA but I can say that you bunch, (the OFF forum group in particular.) are an intelligent and gracious group. I tend to find that this is true of a lot of small, 'geekish' if I can broach the term, interest group forums. I've watched too much tribe mentality take over other discussion forums and I have left because of it. My only gripe right now is with Sim Outhouse and it's only because they don't allow new membership with yahoo accounts. But that's another story.

The Hobbit has been hit with some setbacks and delays. But apparently is in production and filming now. Losing New Line Production's access and deep pockets probably has created more problems than they anticipated. -
Skinning Etiquette
Lewie replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Skinning / Modeling Help
In OPS/SDOE you have the ability to add in the .sm file, ( the file that contains all of the 3D, 2D, DM And FM data and texts..) the ability to put into the properties files directly, text acknowledging the original builders and 2D artists. This is actually encouraged in SDOE's modding circles. I think it would behoove someone using original 2D work, or public domain available 3D work to at least send a small .txt with the files, a 'ReadMe' or maybe even have the text in the mapping file so it's on the model in some not so conspicuous place, listing thanks and credits for the original artist. I know I'd like to have this recognition on my models used for further development, I've given to the public domain. And there's dozens of those I've contributed over the years. -
ArgonV has the patience of Buddha and is a huge asset to the WWI flight-sim world, I cannot say enough good things about the help he's given me, and helping import my models to FS-WWI over the past two years. Jason, if you're reading this, this round is on me mate. :drinks:Cheers! P.S....and for those of you scratching your head and wondering, Who is this ArgonV? Here's his downlaods website for the entire WWI part of SDOE, complete with patches, skins and updates. FS-WWI Plane Pack information

Training Field - P4 DEVELOPMENT SCREENSHOTS!
Lewie replied to Winder's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Very, very nice, It sort of looks a bit like the set for Flambards. You realize of course that the game is now going to need AVRO 504's for the Gosport training system? ( I keed..) You'll also need Farman MF7 and 11's. What the hell, let's go all out and do a prewar 'Summer on the Hill' recreation of the halcyon days of early RFC operations with BE2's, ( real early version ) Farman Boxkites, and all the assorted mix of makers from that era. Eh? Lewie , ( who is bucking for a scolding..) -
Well I guess that shoots down my wanting to sit shotgun seat in Old Bill. Guess I'll have to succor my wounded pride by grabbing a stanchion off the back and hanging on for dear life. Please don't take the corners at speed.. Happy 4000 and something post day Lou, from the other Lew.

I have to wonder once under way does this thing just flop about in the cockpit or was it secured in the ignition switch? I could see it being more than a nuisance when maneuvering wildly.

For all our Newbies: The First Dogfighters
Lewie replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Udet at 15,000 feet, alone? what happened to the rest of the Jasta? Also the isn't 15,000 up the ceiling of the Albatros DIII? You're not going to be yanking the stick around violently while trying to engage an enemy unless you have a death wish. Oh well, the History channel could also be called the Histrionics Channel. -
The 'all abouts' are pretty easy. Download Freetrack or Tracknoir and install. Then get a copy of TrackIR version 3 or 4's free downloads from NaturalPoint's Downloads page and install it into a folder separate from Program Files pathway. I'd do it off the root of C:\. Copy the .dll's, I've listed, from TrackIR's own directory into the root of either Freetrack or Tracknoir and run the program. You should see it in either program's set up page as a 'TIRViews' check box. Select it only. Delete the TrackIR folder or uninstall it. Make sure your webcam works natively under Windows without needing a separate program to run, before using the tracking programs. Set up as usual. That's how I got Freetrack to work. I'm continually amazed that the makers of either FreeTrack or Tracknoir don't do an in-depth step by step of how to set up their programs, it' would save lots of bandwidth on their user forums. They are well aware of how to do it but you an find dozens of post about how some newbie can't get their setup to work because of these two missing .dll's. It's asinine.
-
It might need a couple of .dll's from TrackIR's older version's free downloads. I believe these files are the TIRVeiws.dll and the KeyBDHook.dll. Freetrack also needs these files to work with CFS3-OFF.
-
If you're going to use Freetrack it behooves you to download one of the earlier TrackIR software downloads, so you get the proper .DLL's and other files for running CFS3-OFF in Freetrack. Download the TrackIR program zip to a separate folder, but don't initiate it. Copy and paste some of the DLL's over to the freetrack folder and 'voila! you have CFS3 recognized as one of your optional games, which FreeTrack wouldn't recognize before. If just getting a look over your shoulder without the side to side translation or the up and down translation will suffice for your viewing needs in OFF Freetrack has the 2 axis option in setup, that will use less system resources, and works with a single LED. One could be simply mounted on the bill of a cap for starters.

I forget which Fokker it was but it was the interim Biplane they made to cover for the EIII-EIV that still had wing warping and twin MG's. And despite the increased wing area Anthony decided it too needed a twin row Oberusal and it was as equally lousy after the conversion. I think I'm refering to the Fokker DII and DIII German Aviation: Fighters 1916 the M17.. and the M19 or DIII
-
You should know that the EIV was not a big improvement on the EIII with the single gun, it was considerably heavier and the twin row Oberusal 160 was temperamental and unreliable. The extra weight could not be overcome by the increased engine power, it would plow through turns and it's climb rate wasn't an improvement.
-
There is a set of EIII-EIV Fokkers available from AH's free downloads for CFS3,-early OFF, but incorporating them into a campaign in P3 would be a problem.

Yup, and MST3K did a great job of razzing this old classic by Roger Corman. I think that Beverly Garland, who starred in this, was a hotty. Then of course there's Viking Women and the Sea Serpent, with whole bevy of beauties doing tons of walking around, It's a Corman trademark. Walking that is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0D3cZV_C6hU&playnext=1&list=PL9A38DA2D3CB1D8A7

Were they still flying the EI with the Oberusal U0 7 cylinder, 80 hp engine then? Seems like a lot of weight even for a single Spandau especially because of the limited power of the U0.
