Just got this from the Civilian Marksmanship Program in Alabama. Springfield Armory Receiver serial number dates to Fab. 1945. SA Bolt serial # to Jan. 1945. It also has a SA barrel that is dated 3/53. The bore is excellent. Stock is brand new CMP with their cartouche on the side. Had it cleaned and re-inspected. They also test fired it a second time. CMP included a CMP hardcase, a certificate of authenticity, a chamber flag, an enbloc clip, DVD from the Garand Collectors Association. Ive got a couple hundred rounds of Greek surplus ammo on the way also. Cant wait to get out and fire this one. This is the flagship of my little collection now. :)

I have a M48 Yugoslav 8MM mauser Ill post some pics of. It dates around 1950 and is in excellent condition. There is also a war trophy Japanese sword bayonet and a bayonet for the mauser. That's it for my war surplus. I also have a few other firearms for home defence and hunting.

Aint nothing like a garand eh crazyhorse? I have wanted one of these since I was a kid. Well, I finally did, YAY! I was good in Marine boot camp with my M16 getting expert. Now Id like to see how I do out to 500 yards. I just got new eyeballs, ie; cataract surgery on both eyes so I can see as well now as when I was a kid. So how about some pics of your baby? Or as they say on the CMP forums, show us some M1 porn. Yeah, I know what you mean. You think of all the guys who carried this 70 years ago and what they went thru. Seems like everytime I look at these rifles in my collection it comes to mind. And everytime I think of it, I thank God for men who had the guts to face violence for our country's freedom. Read "With the old breed" by EB Sledge; it'll send chills down your spine. As for your grandfather...o7

Glad to see the name is in use again. Sure wouldn't have minded being onboard getting her underway for the first time, nothing like it.

SFP1Ace, Its in IL2. ;0) I agree its RCS was probably an accident. Never the less, it was still am impressive machine. That it also would have made it more difficult to detect adds to the machine's effectiveness.

It was fascinating to see that the Horten was still in storage. It would be awesome to see it refurbished and at least put on display if not actually made flyable again. I never realized how far along the Germans were in actually bringing this aircraft to production. To see that several test flights had already been done and dogfights defeating the Me-262 flown was eye opening. To see Northrops' demonstration of how the aircraft would be used attacks on Britains' radar was sobering. To see the Horten 18 attack the US with nuclear weapons was downright frightening. Gotta say that team at Northrop was pretty cool. Cool video.

Yeah, I about jumped outta my chair when I saw that. I wonder how many people were laughing when he told them it was a prank.

Yeah, my wife and I were at Home depot yesterday and all, I mean all, the signs were in Spanish and English. Immigrints don't have a need to learn English if everything is in Spanish, ya know? I find that a bit annoying. Skyviper, I feel for you. I quit my job at the jail after 4 1/2 years; too many jerks youd like to take out behind the woodshed and cant. Got a job now at the local university and couldn't be happier.

British Lee-enfield No.1 Mk3 marked 1917. I'll tell ya who built it from the markings on it as soon as I get back home tomorrow. Already had it out to shoot and man was it sweet!

Well, here's one for you Widowmaker...on the milsurp forums, I am told the markings indicate this is one of the rifles given to the Austrailians after the war in payment for arms they provided the Brits during the war. Later on, it was refurbished in 1951 in Austrailia, then sold to the US. The importer mark is on the receiver; a company called Import Arms, Sacramento, Ca.
