  3. a good laugh! y'all are gonna love this one!

Actually, I found it rather amusing, espesially the exchange in the PX...hehehe.
  4. I read in one of the other forums, dont remember where, that there was a request for a flyable Skyraider for the game. The poster also mentioned that there was an incident during Vietnam where a flight of skyraiders were attacked by Migs and wound up shooting down at least one Mig. Well, I just found this actual debreifing of the pilots that was recorded. Check it out at http://www.skyraider.org/skyassn/sartapes/...ill/migkill.htm. Who says propjobs couldnt handle a jet...hehehe.

Do you have the game Aliens vs. Predator?
  6. A letter to the President...

Dear Sir, It is said that War is the failure of Diplomacy. Before you send our boys to fight a war very far away, make damn sure you have exhausted all other avenues to gain whatever it is you are trying to gain. Have you ever waited for a telegram from the Secretary of Defence to tell you that a loved one is not coming home, or looked into the eyes of one receiving it? Have you ever known the fear and uncertainty of a coming battle? Have you heard the screams of the dying or the groans of the wounded? Have the political bastards that make up congress known this? How many body bags are you willing to fill that your goals will be achieved? I understand that you have a duty to protect this country. As a former member of the military, I understand that duty, and I support you in upholding that duty. I even expect you to do your duty. But before you give those boys the order to move out, you best damn well make sure that your motives are pure. None of that political rationale crap. There are no politics on the battlefield, or at the front door to the soldiers home where his wife and children stand waiting, or in the cemetary where he is laid to rest. There damn sure better not be any politics involved when you give that order. Save all that glory and honor crap. Thats for children and fools. The only honor in war is doing your duty and bringing your buddy home. The only glory is to be remembered by those you served. We fight to protect our freedom you say, and yet the constitution which our freedom is built on is under assault here at home. We arent idiots, we see what is happening in the halls of congress and elsewhere in our goverment. Our freedoms are legislated away by those who aint got the guts to go to war themselves. Yet they clammer the loudest when threatened by some potential enemy to send the boys over. There is a verse in the Bible that says, "examine yourselves to see whether ye be in the faith or not." That kind of honesty can be applied to a lot of the facets of our lives. Just remember sir, before you say "go", you will be judged...by your people, by history, and by God. Sincerly, Jeffery Bryon Gerald former USMC, USN
  7. A letter to the President...

Your points are well taken vercingetorix. This whole business with Iraq has put me in a great quandry. I remember the strike by Israel on that power plant. I always thought that it was justified. I never did think ill of Israel. Matter of fact, My ship, the David R. Ray DD-971 was in the Persian gulf at the time playing radar picket and gathering intell at the mouth to the Shaat el arab, (Iran-Iraq war, remember?). We "saw" the strike go in on our radars, which were data linked with the local airborne radar, cant recall his callsign, though at the time we had no idea what was happening. It wasnt until the next day we heard that Israel had made a pancake out of that plant. I dont recall hearing a single negative comment by any of the sailors. We were concerned for our own butts as that was a real tense area at the time and we figured someone might decide to try to whack us in retaliation, but we were ready. I am not "against" the war per se. I too feel Saddam and others like him must be contained. But the past has shown that America often enters into these things not clearly focused and under the influence of a lot of emotion and rhetoric. I am pleased that the American people have learned to love their military again. One lesson learned from Vietnam. But what about the deeper issues like having a focused mission and a plan. I really wish we had marched all the way to Bagdad back in '91. But we didnt for political reasons. Now we are expected to finish the job? What are the other reasons behind all this if any? Sometimes people die in war, thats a sad fact of life. I just dont want a single person to die needlessly. If we are to do a job, then lets do it for the right reasons with a plan. If we go about this wrong without due consideration of the people over there, we will leave even more enemies behind us. A lot of people say to hell with the arabs and what they think. But if we are to live in peace ever on this planet, we have to learn to live with them too. We cant just go over there and smash everything then come home wondering why they hate us so. Let me say this too, while on the USS Independance CV-62 in the Med 1979, we visited Israel. I never felt a place in 3 deployments at sea around the world more like home away from home. The people there loved us and made us as welcome as any family. Ill always remember that... I hope the peace they pray for is one day realized.
  8. A letter to the President...

LOL! Saw this a minute ago at another website as someones sig, thought you all might like it. Cracked me up... "Politicians and diapers have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly and for the same reason." ...cant...stop...laughing...*gasp*....
  9. A letter to the President...

My figures Ranger were off a bit, not sure were I got the 400 number, please pardon me, getting addled... Combat Deaths.......148 Wounded................458 Noncombat deaths...121 You are essentially correct Ranger. However I might point out that even the accidents and fratricides would not have happened if we had not had to deploy because of Saddam. In my mind, they are still war related, just not all "Combat casualties". Source...http://www.historyguy.com/GulfWar.html
  10. A letter to the President...

(By the way Ranger, this particular forum, the "PUB", is indeed for off topic subjects such as this if I understand the description of the forum correctly). Fellas, thank you very much for the replys. They were all indicative of people trying to think and understand what is going on here. Please dont take my post wrong fellas, I do tend to support our President. Yes, my words to him were tough. But it will be far tougher on those who bear the fighting. I dont want one young man or woman to die for an unclear mission or for B.S. political reasons. If one does, then we have failed to learn the lessons of Vietnam. If we have to take out Saddam or any other threat to our national security because they have nukes or gas and is threatening us or an ally, then we do what we have to. But it is wrong to waste lives for nothing more than the satisfaction of a politition. So far, our goverments evidence of wrong doing on Saddam's part is hidden if it exist at all. This reminds me much of the situation surrounding the Tonkin gulf and the resulting reolution condeming Vietnam and escalating the war there with the intervention of US troops. Things were kept quiet then too for "Security Reasons". Later years proved it all to be a farce. We lost 58,000 young men. How many might we lose in this war and put their names on another wall? I did not fight in Vietnam, I was too young, not joining the Marines till 1975, in April, the same month Saigon fell... But 14 years of military service and a keen interest in Military history has taught me that onesided affairs like the Gulf War are rare events indeed. And even that "one-sided" event still cost the lives of 400 men. I love this country fellas, with all my heart. I choke up everytime I see the flag hauled down for the evening because I feel ole glory should wave forever. And because I care, like with those you love such as your family, you take nothing for granted. How many of you really trust polititions? Why should we trust them now because we are threatened? I think it means we watch even more closely. The rest of the world certainly is. I look to their leadership and defer to their authority as my leaders up to a point. But I still watch them, most of all because I love this country...
  11. Very cool pic man. I remember the bears and badgers shadowing us on the USS Independance CV-62. VF-33 and -102 would intercept and escort away from the ship. They were flying the Phantom then too, 1977-79, just before the airwing got the Tomcat. Ah yes, memories of the cold war...what a fun time...
  12. Christmas card you would only find on a AF base

ROFLOL! I love it! A HOO! and a RAH!
  13. Looking good Dan. This oughta be fun to fly.
  14. Suggestion for TK... It would be nice if ingame map, "M" key, had: 1.) Names for differents flights shown on map, either their callsign or at least type of aircraft if known thru radar intel or visual sighting. 2.) Names for airbases and a way to tell if they are friendly or not, or at least way to add them, perhaps thru mission editor. 3.) Key landmark names or at least way to add them thru mission editor. 4.) The "Front Lines" shown, or if Vietnam, at least the DMZ and borders. If the lines are fluid, dont know how easy this would be. Also, I remember that the air controllers during the war often could monitor the launch of MiGs in NVN and by deducing time in the air could give a very accurate estimate of remaining flight time for the MiGs. It would be cool if the map reflected this in a note next to each enemy aircraft on the map or even have the controller tell you just like back then. Maybe someone could even mod this if not TK?
  15. That is really an interesting skin pattern. Reminds me of a Panther camo job in Combat Mission. When its done and ready, Ill be downloadin it... :D
  16. Those skins are just plain squared away coyote! They LOOK military. :D Well Done!
  17. One of the things I like MOST about this forum is that until now it has been more the domain of mellow people who like aircraft and flight sims. THAT mellowness and lightheartedness is something hard to find these days. We ALL need to do our part to keep the misunderstandings to a minimum and our tempers in check. Try asking for clarifacation first if something irritates you before blowing up. Chances are, it will be nothing worth the hassle and bad feelings. There are far better things to do than argue.
  18. You guys who have been able to modify the loadouts on your aircraft please make a tutorial for the database here at biohaz. I would LOVE to know how to do this.
  19. MIG fliers?

Im not gonna start one, but I'll join if they do. I like playin the devils advocate...
  20. Thank you for the headsup and the hard work on the skinning. I enjoy flyin yur planes pal. Lookin forward to the IL28 and B57 skins espesially.
  21. Hehehe! I remember counting up the cost of all the models on my homemade shelves...$400. That was a LOT of money in 1971. I know what ya mean Ranger, funny how time passes and things change, yet in a way they are still the same. We're still playin with models, only this time they actually fly!
  22. Yes of course, Thanks Column5, good resource pal... :)
  23. Verry Interesting Crab. I am also curious how you managed to give the F-6 a different loadout. I'd like to do that myself with a couple planes. Also, any idea when your plane might be ready, Im looking forward to flying it. :D
