Thank you Crowford, this is great information. You are right, the decals are too small to show the detail, but perhaps I will use the Lebed logo on the tail of the Voisin. I will upload a more correct version of the Lebed 12 shortly.
-
Crowford, Thanks for the information about the Lebed insignia. Can you link to or post an image of the center marking so I can make revisions?

I'll start making some ski versions of the Russian planes. The Sikorsky will take a few days because I still have to unwrap the parts and make new skins, make the new LODs, and check the FM. I have other planes and projects in progress, so I will spread the ski plane revisions over time. So, as Ojcar says, we're going to need snow...
-
I played with the skis all afternoon and I figured out how to use the shock animation to make the skis rotate while on the ground. It's not perfect, the skis dive underground while landing, but it looks pretty good on take off. I need to experiment more with the data parameters and the 3DS animation - I think this is going to work.

I am working (slowly) on a new version of Galicia, it will have some custom tiles, so someone may need to make seasonal versions of those. I haven't checked, but I think original Galicia terrain will work with the stock seasonal tiles, or with Jan Tuma's seasonal tiles. I modified a few tiles, but it won't look bad to put the originals back in. If "someone" is working on new campaigns for Galicia, that would be wonderful. PM me if you want maps of the new terrain. I will make a ski version of one of my Russian planes and upload it so you can see how you like it.

Yes, skis were used for mud as well as snow. In northern Russia, most of rivers run from south to north; in the spring, the snow starts melting upstream while the river mouth is still frozen, so the water backs up and the fields turn to mud for a month or so. I have thought about putting skis on some of my planes. I don't know how that would affect the FM for the landing, and I can't figure out how to make the skis stay parallel to the ground. I never made seasonal terrain tiles for the Galicia terrain anyway.

question on installing FE aircraft into FE2
Stephen1918 replied to xeroluck's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
How you add weapons is different for FE1 and FE2. My Aviatik-Berg D.I 185hp plane in the Downloads section has instructions for installing a Schwartlose machine gun, for both FE1 and FE2. Other weapons should install the same way. -
You're welcome!

The Lebed 12 was a Russian general purpose plane introduced in early 1917. It saw service through the remainder of the war and was used extensively by both sides in the civil wars. It was the most highly produced Russian designed aircraft of World War I and equipped four divisions as well as several training schools. The Lebed 12 was armed with a single Colt-Browning machine gun and could carry a small bomb load. My version has two skins. I have included my skinning templates, decals for the Lebed version insignia for the tail and fuselage, and Peter01's data for the Colt-Browning machine gun. Installation instructions for the gun data are included in a separate text file, included with the download. Credits: My thanks to Ojcar for making the FM file for this plane, and for making adjustments for the machine gun and loadouts. Thanks to Peter01 for making the improved data for the Colt-Browning machine gun. Thanks to Crowford for correcting how I placed the decals. Installation instructions: For FE1: Unzip the file and move the folder named "Lebed12" into the FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. To install the gun, follow the instructions in the file named "InstructionsForInstallingGuns". For FE2: Unzip the file and move the folder named "Lebed12" into the FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. Then in the FirstEagles/Objects/Decals folder, create a new folder named "Lebed12". Move the folder named "D" from the Aircraft/Lebed12 folder into the Decals/Lebed12 folder you just made. To install the gun, follow the instructions in the file named "InstructionsForInstallingGuns". -
I uploaded the Lebed 12 today. It has two skins - a green-grey paint and a wood & linenskin. The Lebed factory used a slightly different version of the Russian roundel insignia, I have included decals for that. I have also included Peter01's data for the Colt-Browning machine gun. Installation instructions and my skinning templates are included with the download. My thanks to Ojcar for making the FM, and to Peter01 for the gun data.

When I revised the Palestine Terrain, if I recall correctly, each terrain tile represents a 2 x 2 kilometer area. I think this is standard for SF. FE tiles are 500 x 500 meters.

Fighting continued in Eastern Europe and Russia for many years after the end of World War I. These decals are the insignia of many of the nations that were formed in the closing days of the war. Most of them fought against the Bolsheviks in the Russian Civil Wars, but many of them also fought each other at one time or another. I have included decals for - Czechoslovakia, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, and Yugoslavia. Many nations did not have standardized insignia at first and I have included variations for many of the nations. I have included a text document with notes on how and when they were used. To use these, you will probably need to tweak the decal ini's for existing planes. How and when insignia are reversed on opposite sides of the plane changes from nation to nation, and the horizontal tail stripes will need to be adjusted. Terms of Use You may use these decals for your own personal use. You may include these decals with any skins you upload for First Eagles at Combat Ace. Please give me credit. You may NOT include these decals with skins you upload at any other site. -
help me fix my aviatiks please!?!
Stephen1918 replied to manitouguy's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
The machine gun for the 185hp Aviatik is a new gun and needs to be added to the Weapons data. FE1 and FE2 use different install procedures. I included instructions for both in the download. Make sure you followed the instructions for the correct version. -
Thanks guys. I also have a new, more accurate version of Galicia started. I'm placing rivers and roads at the moment and it's going pretty slowly. The whole map shifted to the northeast to bring the 1916/1917 battle fields more into the center of the map.

Stephen1918 replied to manitouguy's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
There were 3 different versions of the Aviatik, they are not interchangeable. It sounds like you may have gotten them mixed up. If the plane does not show up in the list on the Single Mission screen, then the name on the ini files does not match the name on the folder, or one of the data files is missing or does not match the file listed in the ini file. If the plane does show up but is invisible in the game, then there is a problem with the LODs - either the names don't match or one of them is missing. Renaming the LODs will not fix the problem. The three versions are - AviatikD1_185, AviatikD1, and AviatikD1_Early - Each has 4 LODs, a different data file, and a different cockpit. All the skins will still work with all the planes, but they may be misaligned if they'e on the wrong plane. You may need to delete all of them and download clean versions of the planes. -

The Moska MB bis was a Russian single wing fighter, first deployed in 1916 and produced throughout the rest of World War I. It did not have a synchronized gun and the stock plane had the gun mounted at an angle to fire over the prop. I have created a "field modded" version with a horizontal gun and with deflector plates on the prop. Both versions use the same skins. I have included my skinning templates with the download. The planes uses the stock decals, so there is no "D" folder with this plane. One of the distinctive features of the Moska MB was that its wings could be folded for shipping and transport. I have included a static model, with folded wings, that can be used by modders in their terrains. The static version has a destroyed version and includes the Types.ini data. Credits Thanks to Ojcar for making the data file for the Moska MB bis. Thanks also to Nix for creating the sound file for the Gnome 80hp engine. Installation Instructions For FE1 - Unzip the file and move the folders named "MoskaMBbis" and "MoskaMBbisMod"into the FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. You also need to move the sound file "gnome80m4.wav" into the FirstEagles/Sounds folder. For FE2 - Unzip the file and move the folders named "MoskaMBbis" and "MoskaMBbisMod"into the FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. You also need to move the sound file "gnome80m4.wav" into the FirstEagles/Sounds folder. -

This version includes a new FM made by ojcar. The Anatra DS was a two seat Russian plane powered by a Salmson 9 cylinder, water cooled, radial engine. The plane was therefore called the "Anasal", short for "Anatra Salmson". When the Ukrainian city of Odessa was occupied by Austria-Hungary early in 1918, the Anatra factory was found intact and production continued as the "Anatra C.I". Many of the first Austrian versions had the Austrian cross painted over the Russian insignia. The Anatra was used mostly for reconnaissance, but also as a fighter and light bomber. Many of them survived the war and were used in the fighting in Eastern Europe after the end of World War I. In version 2 - I have included a loadout for a light bomb load and three skinning options - A generic Russian skin, and skins for two Russian squadrons - the 19th and the 4th squadrons with decals for the squadron tail markings. I have included my skinning templates for those who want make their own skins. In version 3 - I improved the details around the nose, completely reskinned the plane and cockpit, and corrected several problems with node names in the data file. New templates are included in the version 3 download. In version 4 - Ojcar has made a new FM for the plane. I have refined the wings and added some details. Old skins will still work with this revision. I have included the old skinning templates with the download. Historical Notes: I found several sources which said that Anatras carried a machine gun mounted on the fuselage for the pilot. I couldn't find any details of the mounting, so I guessed where it might be located. Credits: My thanks to Ojcar once again for making a new data.ini file for this revision of the plane. Installation instructions: This revision replaces previous versions. If you have an older version, please delete it, then install the new version. For FE1: Unzip the file and move the folder named "AnatraDS" into the FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. For FE2: Unzip the file and move the folder named "AnatraDS" into the FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. Then in the FirstEagles/Objects/Decals folder, create a new folder named "AnatraDS". Move the folder named "D" from the Aircraft/AnatraDS folder into the Decals/AnatraDS folder you just made. -
I uploaded the RAF BE12 today. I was a single seat version of the BE2c. It had a larger, V12 engine, which pretty much crowded out the gunner. It carried a synchronized Vickers gun on the side of the fuselage, but didn't have the maneuverability to make a good fighter. My version has two skins, a full set of number decals, and has three bomb loadouts. My thanks to ojcar for making the FM, and for providing reference materials for the plane.

Armchair Aces over Palestine updated!
Stephen1918 replied to ojcar's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Thank you Ojcar! I have some free time this weekend so I'm planning to fly the new planes in Palestine. -
I just uploaded the RAF BE12a - a single seat version of the BE2e. It's basically a BE12 but with the wings of a BE2e. It has a full set of number decals and 3 bomb loadouts. This will finish my variants of the BE2c, now I'm going back to planes for the Eastern Front for a while.

File Name: RAF BE12a File Submitter: Stephen1918 File Submitted: 15 November 2014 File Category: Other Entente Aircraft The BE12a was a single seat version of the BE2e introduced in 1917. It was intended to be an improvement over the BE12, but the wing configuration did not improve maneuverability very much and it was only produced in small numbers. Like the BE12, it carried a synchronized Vickers gun mounted on the side of the fuselage and could carry up to 230 pounds of bombs.
