Interceptors, 1950's style. I found this gem at the National Film Board of Canada site. Great acting , excellent music score , some romance [just a little] , and some high drama , bring it all together. Turn off the TV and watch this! [ because there's nothing good on, even with 200+ channels.] https://www.nfb.ca/film/canadas_air_defence Where can I get a baseball cap like that?

Why not make the Bay of Pigs operation only a partial success? Half the island is communist and half is [somewhat] democratic. I had this idea a long time ago but never did anything with it. The terrain is very nice with the Stary tiles and Wrench target areas. -
KAW FM Updates

F9F-2 Panther 0.91 FM update attached. After flying this plane for awhile I didn't much like the rudder response at high speed so made a few adjustments. Further updates probably won't happen until next year. KAW_F9F-2_FM_0.91.zip -

I thought I got the wing fold working. Not sure about the canopy. I'm away from home at the moment but will look into it when I get back. -

KAW FM Updates
baffmeister replied to baffmeister's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Knowledge Base
Grumman F9F-2 Panther FM beta 0.90 attached. This is for the very nice Bobrock/Wrench package available here:http://combatace.com/files/file/13412-sf2-korean-war-era-f9f-2-panther-pak-by-bobrock/ I didn't find much free information on the internet regarding handling characteristics and limitations so the FM is a bit generic. At some point I will probably have to purchase a flight manual to make any improvements. I had some issues with the retractable tail skid causing major airframe damage if it contacted the ground. The skid works OK now but the animation behavior isn't 100% correct. The FM uses some KAW specific damage modeling and AI behavior so may not be compatible with other installations. Here's the FM: KAW_F9F-2_FM_0.90.zip -

Problem with AI landing on carrier in SF2:NA
baffmeister replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I have very limited experience with carrier birds but have noticed the requirement for the previously mentioned hook angle adjustment for some planes. Carrier aircraft also seem to like very slow approach speeds with lots of drag so you could try increasing the flap and gear drag while decreasing the stall and landing speeds a bit. Doing so will probably generate a more stable approach. -

I plan to have a look at that one at some point but haven't found much detailed info on the internet. In RL the La-11 would probably have been a formidable adversary in the right hands! -

Not enough spare time! All I have going for WW2 is an ETO Battle of Britain install. The SF2 NA title adds a lot to the game but I haven't really made use of it beyond a quick check out. Probably time to do a PTO install to at least get my feet "wet". -

KAW FM Updates
baffmeister replied to baffmeister's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Knowledge Base
KAW P-51D FM update attached. [ Got side tracked. The Panther FM hasn't even been started yet!] This P-51D FM is for use with Wrenchs' KAW P-51D pack that you can get here: http://combatace.com/topic/75103-sf2-korean-war-era-p-51d-mustangs/ NOTES: The stock TW P-51D FM seems to underperform quite a bit so this FM has been adjusted to get the desired performance. [desired by me, at least.] The main performance changes are due to adjustments to the inner wing CDL headline number and a minor edit to the CDL table. Also, some additional changes to the rudder data and engine table. The P-51 holds lots of internal fuel so to maintain good performance you should limit the fuel load on short range missions. Other changes: The MaxSpeedSL= has been adjusted to 505MPH. This was the Mustang redline indicated airspeed below 9000ft and is a bit of an experiment. I usually set the MaxSpeedSL to about 10MPH above the book number while tuning the top speed at sea level with edits to the overall CD0. In this case I want to see if the "simplified" AI flight engine will keep the max LEVEL SL speed within the same range as the player aircraft. So far, so good. I think the game flight engine limits the AI speeds to the MaxSpeedSL entry or the MachLimit entry [0.77 Mach for the P-51], which ever comes first. By raising the the MaxSpeedSL entry to the redline speed I hope to get more realistic AI behavior. If this approach works it should make for more interesting dogfights. [Thinking WW2 here!] I have also included some info on KAW aircraft war service dates. Previously, I had the dates in the FM data for optional use but it is probably better to use these dates just for Campaign or Single Missions. I plan to keep updating this file as I do more KAW FM's. The dates may be of some help to Campaign/Mission builders but the research is "Internet Quality". Here's the P-51D FM: KAW P-51D_0.99.zip -
First Strike Mission In B-52
baffmeister replied to Chutedangle's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
After playing around with the MiG-25RB [classed as a BOMBER] for God knows how many hours, I threw up my hands in despair. It seems you can adjust the bombing altitude by adjusting some level bomb AI data but the accuracy for dumb bombs is very hard coded. I had the MiG-25RB level bombing from 42000ft but when giving the "Attack my Target" command the AI free fall bombs would land about 3-4 Km from the target. I think for aircraft classed as BOMBERS, the game engine for bomb accuracy is coded for large formations and the formation tends to "walk" the "dumb" bombs in from a considerable distance from the target. Probably worth pointing out, I even experimented with differerent glide ratios for the free fall bombs but it had no effect. I suspect the MiG-25RB in real life would work in single or small groups dropping bombs at high speed and high altitude so I made an attempt to replicate that in Paulo's recent upload but had no success. [ I think the RB used pre computed INS [for the target coordinates] and doppler radar [to compute wind drift] for strikes against relatively large but high priority targets. [ Regarding accurracy, think dropping free fall bombs within airport boundarys] Also worth mentioning, I equipped the MiG-25RB to carry LGB's and, when classed as BOMBERS, and using the revised high altitude LevelBomb AI, my wingmen did, in fact, hit the target. This would seem to be contrary to some previous posts I have read on the topic. [bOMBERS using smart bombs. Maybe something got changed with SF-2NA?] Anyway, for B-52's, for those who like to experiment, I would suggest adjusting the LevelBomb AI data like so: [LevelBombAI] ReleaseAlt=12801.6//9144.0 ReleaseCount=24 ReleaseInterval=0.1 This will raise the level bomb AI from 30000ft to 42000ft. I have no idea if they can actually hit a target from that altitude. The B-52 data.ini can be extracted from ObjectData012. P.S. Don't EVER forget what Wrench said about BOMBER aircraft! -
