Ndicky's Spitfires
baffmeister replied to usafphantom2's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
Was wondering about that myself. I looked into BSFC a little bit but really don't understand how TW is implementing it. For what it's worth, I did run a fuel burn check on the Tigercat based on flight manual data at full power and the number I got was BSFC=0.0021 which is the number I have settled on for any WW2 FM's I do. -

That's a good point. Many of the older aircraft have the fuel consumption set much too high. ThirdWire uses BSFC=0.0028 in the Spitfire and Mustang so you may want to check those numbers on any problem planes. -
Spitfire 1A [late] and BF-109E-3 FM's
baffmeister posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
Here is a matched pair of FM's for the Spitfire 1a and BF-109E-3. I have tried to adjust the FM's to reflect the differences between the two types regarding roll rates and pitch response. New engine tables included for both types. The Spitfire 1a FM is for the recent TMF/Wrench upload and was developed from the FM supplied with the original. It's 95% ThirdWire with some tweaks to the rudder and aileron entries as well as a few other things. The engine table reflects a late version with 100 octane fuel and 12 lbs engine boost pressure. This gave a bit over 1300hp at 9000ft and made a huge difference during the Battle of Britain. The update programs were very rapid with all Spitfires and Hurricanes in the Battle of Britain theater having constant speed props and 12 lbs boost my mid August, 1940. If you want to make an early version you can just change the entry HasWep=TRUE to FALSE. The BF-109E-3 FM is made for RussoUK's SF-1 model. Here's a link. http://combatace.com/files/file/1352-bf109e-3/ You are on your own making an SF-2 version, although the FM should work in SF-1 installs as well. I have done a little trick I picked up from Kulbit80 to make the fuselage invisible from the cockpit while keeping the propeller visible. This so you can re-position the cockpit to a more realistic position. At present the right hand wheel rotates backwards but so far that's the only way I've been able to get the shock stroke animation working in the correct direction. Notes: The Spitfire 1A had a poor roll rate and is reflected in the FM. The BF-109E-3 had a decent roll rate at normal speeds but was almost as bad as the Spit at high speeds. The Spitfire had very light elevators and I think is done well by ThirdWire. The BF-109E-3 had an OK elevator feel at low speeds but the stick forces would build up rapidly as speed increased and became a major issue at high speeds. I have started trying to model that but more work to do. The Spitfire gave lot's of warning prior to departure during turns but the original ThirdWire FM is very departure resistant so I still have some things to do there. The BF-109E-3 was very spin resistant and the FM reflects that. Both FM's are beta 0.8 and holding as I want to get started on some other ones. Cheers. Spitfire1A_DATA0.8.zip BF109E-3_DATA0.8.zip -

DO-17Z SF2 FM
baffmeister posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
Do-17z SF2 FM for the A-Team model attached. It's a generic WW2 bomber FM using a bunch of data from ThirdWires C-47. I don't plan on spending much time doing bomber FM's, I think I can just use this one with minor changes to some of the headline numbers to adapt it to different types. The skills of the bomber gunners have been reduced quite a bit and where one gunner is responsible for more than one gun [quite common on the Luftwaffe bombers] the chance of firing has been reduced accordingly. To keep things balanced for the machine gun equipped Spitfire and Hurricane the "armor as structure" is only being used around the engines. This to represent the capacity of radial engines to continue running with more damage than liquid cooled types. Anyway, it's all a bit of an experiment. Cheers. Do-17Z_DATA0.80.zip -

Latest DO-17 FM attached. It fixes some lack of damage issues. Also, the "armor as structure" has been adjusted to current test settings. Do-17Z_DATA0.81.zip -

Static props may just be the result of combat damage. Sometimes fire/smoke will go out but engine will stay stopped. -
JU-88-A1/5 SF2 FM
baffmeister posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
An FM for the A-Teams JU-88A4 to make a "compromise" JU-88A1/5 for BoB use. The attached folder contains the Ju-88A1 ini and data ini so it should be possible to drop the entire contents of your I assume [that Wrench word!] functional JU-88A4 to create an A1 version. Possible edits required if you are using a different cockpit. JU-88A1data0.80.zip I have noticed some lack of damage issues with the previously released DO-17Z FM so it will be getting an "emergency update" in a day or so. After that the Blenheim will get done to finish off the initial beta test BoB bomber FM's. The lack of damage issues led me astray a bit in implementing the armor as structure concept but once that gets figured out I will upload a final beta test pack that will include all the BoB bomber FM's I plan on doing. -

No problem guys. It's been quite interesting trying to get things working properly. Finally starting to see some high quality damage effects showing up. Was tracking a BF-110 and got a nice deflection shot into his R/H fuel tank which caught fire in a convincing fashion. That was the last of my ammo but I kept following him around for awhile to see what would happen. After about a minute the fire went out and when I tried to head back to base the BF-110 came after me. Another time I saw a JU-88 descending with 2 engines shut down, one of them on fire. After a bit the engine fire went out and the engine re-started! Cool stuff! -

Could you post the current gun entries from the aircraft data ini? The cartridge weights are probably the least of your worries at this point, the guns will still work without them. -

I don't use the AvHistory gun data but noticed some of the other add-on guns don't have an entry for cartridge weight so you don't get the ammo weight added to the aircraft. Not 100% sure if this is the problem you're having but here is the data for ThirdWires Browning machine guns to show what I mean: [GunData003] TypeName=303CAL_BROWNING FullName=0.303-cal Browning Machinegun Caliber=7.700000 ROF=600.000000 MuzzleVel=740.000000 AmmoWt=0.011300 WarheadWt=0.000000 CartridgeWt=0.025400//.....................................This entry required for ammo weight to show up on load out screen. Reliability=97.000000 Accuracy=70.000000 AddLight=TRUE MaxLightRange=3.000000 FireColor=0.120000,0.120000,0.120000 GunFireEffect=LmgFireEffect GunFireSound=50cal EffectClassName=LmgEffects EffectTime=0.100000 TracerTexture=Tracer.tga TracerSize=0.120000 TracerDistFactor=0.002000 TracerLength=0.015000 MaxVisibleDist=4000.000000 MaxStreakVisibleDist=1000.000000 TimeFuzed=FALSE I plan to include some updated gun data for the BoB types at some point but still looking into it. -
Shock Stroke animation and wheel castoring
baffmeister replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I'm curious, could you post an example? From what I have seen, no animations mean the tire sinks into the ground when under extra load making a short shock stroke best for those situations. No shock stroke, if I remember correctly, results in " pilot black out" at the slightest bump. -
He-111-H3 SF2 FM
baffmeister posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
Another "generic" WW2 bomber FM using some data from ThirdWires C-47 as well as quite a few adjustments. The bad gunnery skills from the Do-17 FM continue, although they still knock down a decent number of aircraft. The armor as structure is back, it is going to take a while to figure out a standard approach for this subject. It seemed rather too easy to kill the bomber pilots so the rear armor for the He-111 pilot has been increased significantly. The Jumo engine table is from the Ju-87. Bomb position fix by Crusader. [Thank You!] The upload contains a folder with an He-111H3 Ini and Data Ini so it should be OK to copy the entire contents of your current functioning SF2 He-111H6 folder into this one to get a functioning H3. Possible edits required for the cockpit if you're using one. He-111H3_0.80.zip -

Hurricane Mk1A and BF-110C SF2 FM's

I have been uploading aircraft data inis and a few cockpit files only so it would be recommended to create a functioning SF2 BoB aircraft installation first prior to using the said data.inis. -

By invisible runway do you mean one that works with just the terrain tile only? I have one working in the BoB terrain. I ended up using one of Gepards "platte" lods with no bit map to represent the runway and a new runway ini for it. Not sure if the invisible lod is even required but I figured it would give the bombers something to aim at during airfield strike missions. -

BF-110 beta 0.81 FM attached. The previous version had a lot of errors in the damage modeling that have been fixed with this new version. Engines can now get shot up, fuel tanks can catch fire although it takes a lot of Browning rounds to set them alight, and the pilot is now "mortal." Still some weird things going on. Watch for a big piece of the airplane get released when the pilot is killed. It may be the entire internal cockpit area. If anyone can make the issue go away, please advise. Bf-110C_DATA0.81.zip -

Quite a few problems showing up with the BF-110C. Fuel tanks that don't catch fire, engines that don't get shot up, and a few other things associated with Min/Max extents and typos. I hope to get an "Emergency Update" released in a few days, if anyone was wondering about those issues. -

baffmeister replied to KnightWolf45's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Check the length / geometry of the models main landing gear as well as looking for any differences in the landing gear data. The game is very sensitive to any differences between the main landing gears. Even a slight difference in landing gear length can cause dancing and flip overs. It can often be fixed by adjusting the rolling radius on one of the main landing gears but is best fixed by fixing the model. -

Any updated BoB files would be greatly appreciated! For myself, the current plan is to get the German bomber FM's done then do a BF-109E-4 fighter bomber and probably a Spitfire Mk2A. At some point they will all get put together in one upload.
