WOI to WOE flight model info
column5 replied to whiteknight06604's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Grab the Mirage 5BA from c5. It'll be a lot easier and is appropriate for the theater. -
Excellent! Congrats to JimmyBib!

Where you called us cultists is the most obvious.

The F-14 did have some problems with the wing sweep mechanism that limited them to a max of 4 Gs for a period in the mid 70s. Other than that I am not aware of any structural problems or fleetwide groundings.

Modding and Realism

It is frustrating when you see a low quality model released for a plane that you need/want. But like everything else in life, you have to accept reality and move on. It doesn't do any good to rant about it after the fact. The best thing is to either make a better model yourself, or find a team to work with to do it. Complaining just doesn't contribute to a solution. -

Could you post a list of what you have? I know there is a Meteor and its cockpit. -

As a last question to you before I hit the rack... Given that your aggressive (to put it mildly) approach to championing the cause of realism has not worked very well over the years, resulting in much administrative action being taken against you and your posts, might it be advisable to change tactics, and work from within (like...like a fifth column lol), rather than giving the appearance of being a hit-and-run attacker with no sweat-equity in the communty? We are fortunate that our sim supports many different play styles, from gamer to mid-core sim pilot (TK still calls the series light, but especially after WoI it is distinctly mid-core, a niche it owns all by itself). That is why we have such a large community producing so many mods, most of which are of excellent quality. -

Fair enough. Another concern I have... I'm trying to get a sense of your perspective on this...we have hundreds, maybe even thousands of aircraft that have been made for SF. A large percentage of them have their own dedicated, accurate cockpits. Over the years the trend has developed for more and more accurate cockpits to be included--this has occurred as more people gain the expertise necessary to make them. So the question is, what in your opinion is wrong with such a process of continual improvement, resulting in each release being better than the last, and older aircraft getting updated (such as just happened with the A-7)? It seems to me that we have been able to have our cake, and eat it, and then have it again, while other sim communities still have nothing after years of talk. -

I for one am completely down with Snoop. This thread needs a moment of levity: -

The reason I ask is becuase--I assume--you are looking for an outcome other than just talk. If you got pits or models that you would like to contribute, I hope we can hook you up with someone to collaborate with. We definately have the expertise here to get your work in game. I think the consensus here is that we all like quality, but our thresholds for acceptable quality vary a bit. -

Stiglr, I locked the previous topic so I wouldn't have to delete it later. Same goes for this one. If it gets personal as the last one did, or starts to flare up, I'm going to lock it before it gets out of hand. I don't know why you think I disagree with you, I told you otherwise. You'll note that I left your comments in the Ki-61 thread intact. That said, I stand by my opinion that the best work comes from people who are passionate about the subject at hand. It doesn't matter if you are making a movie, writing a book, creating a model airplane, or just doing your day to day job. Pride in one's work is a big factor, no doubt, but you have to have desire and passion to make it all come together. You do need to come to terms with the fact that people have different levels of skill, and different opinions of what constitutes an acceptable level of realism. As far as I am concerned, as long as someone gives 100% of what they have, they should not be chastised, but encouraged to continue modding so they will get better. On the other hand, there are some that think a lazy, subpar effort is worthy of praise, and I agree with you that that is embarassing. -

Most of us here agree with your point about attention to detail. Its just the way you present it that sometimes causes a problem. The key to getting a great quality model of any aircraft is that it should be done by someone who is passionate about that particular plane. Its entirely conceivable that someday, someone will come around who is passionate about Japanese aircraft and make some new HD models, similar to the work AD did on the Zero and Betty. Until then, we have to make the most of the existing resources. -
LOL, it really burns you that the Tomcat has a large following of people who appreciate it, and that it is more well-known than the aircraft you perfer, doesn't it? Its just a fact of life that the F-14 is a great plane that got immortalized. Edit: Also, I'm concerned that you feel the need to call Tomcat fans cultists, when no one here is threatening your view of the F-4 and F-15. Everyone recognizes that those are outstanding aircraft and most Tomcat fans here recognize that the F-15 has points of superiority.

Nato Fighters III

No French Jag until the Jaguar A is ready. Some Mirages are a possibility, but not confirmed. -

The gameplan is to enhance the existing campaigns by adding as many relevant aircraft as possible, as well as other outstanding mods. Anything added has to be high quality--that is the main criteria. Right now, the only two aircraft that I can confirm will be added are the A-7D and G91. It will include Widesky assuming I can secure permission. There will not be a new campaign at this time, although once the MF MiG-29 is released I plan on doing a 1985 scenario. The Tomcat won't be added as a land-based plane... -

I'm waiting for the MF A-7D to be ready and the WOI-patch for WOE to be released. -
That s**t apparantly goes back years though. They wouldn't let John Glenn get his 5th kill in Korea, either.
-
You just can't go wrong with the F-14D. Strike, BVR, WVR, whatever.
-
And yet, after all that is said, the Tomcat will always overshadow the F-4 and F-15. It was an excellent aircraft, flown by some of the world's best pilots, and symbolized American power for decades. Its an American symbol on par with the Statue of Liberty or Washington Monument, and you can't quantify that kind of magnetism. For those of us in the cult, its much more than a great aircraft...

I'm in only if we can incorporate mahogany canopy rails.
