The only thing that makes that statement reassuring is knowing that JSF is in the pipeline.

Buying Tomcats would not have collapsed the country. And the money existed, of course. It was just spent on other things, such as art endowments so people could sh*t on crucifixes. Poor spending decisions and misuse of tax dollars...its a problem as old as government itself.

The F-14D is simply a better, more capable aircraft than the Supa Honet in most respects that can be quantified. There are areas in which the Hornet is better, such as maintenance requirements. The US Navy right now does not have the best possible aircraft on its carrier decks. It is adequate for the conflicts that we are currently involved in, and would be adequate in higher-intensity conflicts where the USAF can provide air supremacy for the Navy. However as a taxpayer, I would prefer to see my money being spent on the best possible equipment whenever possible, and in the 1990s it was certainly possible to afford the better aircraft. There is no conspiracy, simply a poor spending decison on the part of the Navy and Congress, which is nothing new.

The commander of ADC pushed very hard to get Tomcat's as F-106 replacements in the late 1970s as well. It was deemed too expensive though.

Not sure I like this...the carrier is too anime, and Destro just don't look right. Scarlett looks like the little mermaid.

I think that the B/D Tomcat stacks up well against the Eagle. No need to worry about which is the best though since they were/are both ours. :D

LOL. That's because you aren't looking at the big picture. The Tomcat, imperfect as it was, represents an era in American history that so many people remember fondly. Because of Top Gun, its as much a part of the 1980s mythos as Michael Jackson and parachute pants. It defeated our then arch-enemy Khadaffi in combat over the Gulf of Sidra and for aviation buffs carried the mystique of a very unique weapons system. It is a symbol of our resurgent confidence after the Vietnam debacle. It's easy to go from thinking about the F-14 to thinking about Ronald Reagan and his final defeat the Soviet Union. The F-15 by contrast is an anonymous player, even though it is superior in many respects.

Stiglr, I think you are the one who needs to take a deep breath. You've been playing really nice but you are on the verge of slipping back into your old ways. Wrench did not not make this model, he is just making some badly needed improvements to it, so back off on the aggressive criticism. -
Any updates on the WOI-Standard patches?
column5 replied to SidDogg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, by now everyone knows that those invoved in the testing can't say much about it. Rest assured though that progress is being made, and the final product(s) will be worth the wait. -

Does Anyone Mind LONG Distances In This Sim?
column5 replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I also don't particularly care for flying long distances in a sim. I like getting to the action fairly quickly. -

I don't have all the details but it seems there is a "relationsip" between the owner of CA and the webhost that will prevent any problems like that. However, I'm keeping a local backup of everything on c5, just to be safe in the event of something unforseen. ;) -

Somehow, I managed to never put the Hunter F.6 up at c5. I'll correct that and add the Japanese planes as well, so we can perpetuate his legacy in as many places as possible. I remember when the A-7B was intially released, and we got over 1000 downloads in the first several hours. It used up a month's worth of my Yahoo web hosting bandwidth in less than a day. -
So what do you fly?
column5 replied to serverandenforcer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
What I have read is that moving the throttle too aggressively caused compressor stalls (basically, turbulence around the compressor blades), which then caused the flame-outs. At high altitude it was reccomended that the throttle not be moved at all during maneuvering--I think that may even be in the NATOPS. -

column5 replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
One thing I've noticed while working on the new F-14B is that it is a lot more difficult to survive in the high-threat environment over 1990s Syria and Lebanon than it was over enemy territory in previous games. However I have the Tomcat's ECM set to what I think is a realistic strength of 65, and I notice a lot of other mods using super-high ECM values (80+ in some cases) which might make things a little too easy. -

Super Hornet G Limit question
column5 replied to deyv's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
That's what I was getting at. Speed is also a factor in how tight your 7.5 g turn will be. -
Super Hornet G Limit question
column5 replied to deyv's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Another point to consider is that higher G does not automatically mean tighter turn radius. -

F-14B and A-7E lately. -
Super Hornet G Limit question
column5 replied to deyv's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
That parameter only limits G for the AI. But the Supa Honet only has a 7.5 to 8 G capability in real life. Same with the Classic Hornet--only the Swiss aircraft are certified to 9 G. -
