  1. I feel liberated, like the day I got my first goldfish with a frickin laser on its head. Muahahahahahahaha! I can only speak for myself, but I'm giving pretty much carte blanche so I don't see why I would ever have a problem that required removing files. And I would never remove my files from a site just because I got a burr up my ass. That's weak. I see this as personal decision. No one is required to follow suit but the more who do, the better for the community. I thought modding was his day job? MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!111
  2. As fara s I am concerned it does't matter whether its historical or fictional. We need everyone to grow this thing.
  3. You got the spelling. ;) And thanks. I have to admit though, its a totally selfish act...I want SF modding to grow to dominate the flight sim world. Muahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!
  4. Maybe for some people it was an ego thing, but I think for most of us it was useful to keep up with what other modders were doing, make new contacts and keep an eye on quality. Since things are growing so big now, we need to streamline things and make it easier for people. IMO, of course.
  5. Same way LGBs lock on now. Magically! ;) All of the mods available tend to obscure the fact that the sims are very much oriented around the technologies and tactics of the 1960s as used by tactical fighters. That's why I personally prefer to remain in-era (maybe creeping into the early-mid 1980s) with the mods I use--you don't have to suspend as much disbelief to convince yourself that you are simulating the real thing. YMMV of course.
  6. I don't think that will happen any time soon. It would be cool--don't get me wrong--but there just isn't much utility in it.
  7. Get it, but have your expectations set reasonably--it will run slower and you will have to reduce some of the settings.
  8. If you thought the review was bad, the discussion is even worse: http://www.simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?...550#Post2457550
  9. I never played air combat board games but I have played World in Flames, Empires in Arms, The Longest Day and some other fairly well known wargames. I'm still waiting for WiFPC to come out (akin to Duke Nukem Forever). Might be fun to pick up that new game you were discussing at TW.
  10. Sounds good, guess I'll have to try it. ;)
  11. I have not but I would not expect a huge impact, as this data only represents the configurable parameters, and doesn't include the actual game code that defines the AI. That code is siginificantly changed in WOI.
  12. Just don't start posting one file after another. In the case of this data, everyone is going to get it for free when the next round of patches hit anyway so its not a big deal. But, if it were WOI-specific flight models (unmodified) or weapon data proprietary to WOI, it would be different.
  13. There was a thread over at TW forum recently with streakeagle and TK talking about jet combat board games, and it kind of made me realize that a lot of the campaign system is influenced by tabletop wargame conventions. I might have been the only one who missed that for all these years...
  14. Why does every review have to focus on what happened 5 years ago? It would be nice if WOI could be reviewed on tis own merits.
  15. Nobody has ever made a sim based on ancient flying machines...why not...
  16. I'll have to check into it tonight. Unless someone is at home and can see if their tanks work. Not all weapons require and INI though--only if the person who created the weapon made a set of low-detail lods for it. Oh, and just to be certain, you do not have any other weapon packs installed along with NF?
  17. Yes it would. One of the last projects developed under the assumption that the Soviets would send waves of supersonic bombers against us. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_YF-12 Perhaps to counter this (well, things like it): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sukhoi_T-4
  18. I think those cartoons were heavily influenced by this Jack Lemmon / Tony Curtis movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059243/ Professor Fate versus The Great Leslie!
  19. I wonder how many of the youngsters here know its origin?
  20. Humble Beginnings

My "new" block: Its a Chevy 350 cast in 2000, came out of a wrecked truck. Because its a late model Generation I block it is cast to accept a roller cam and lifters, which saves a lot of money over buying retrofit roller lifters for blocks made before 1987. I'm building a 383 with it to swap with the tired old L48 in the 'Vette. It goes to the machine shop on wednesday to get cleaned up, checked out, and prepped. The fascinating thing about this engine is that with only relatively minor changes it was produced by GM from 1955 until 2002 (still casting them in Mexico I think), starting at 265cid and going up to 400cid. Its a classic piece of engineering and a small piece of Americana.
  21. Humble Beginnings

I think its going to turn her on big-time.
  22. How about the Fatemobile? See the little canon on the front?
  23. We could have two! Seriously, make the plane that turns you on. Can you give us a hint on the current project?
  24. Was thinking along the same lines...something similar to the airships in Crimson Skies.
