  1. Interesting stuff. The plume pumping, is that the R-15 plume or the video?
  2. French army chief of staff resigns!

They were pointing rifles at crowds of people? Why? gwar:: Maybe not lack of training, but lack of culture. Here in Ussia, alot of people will hand a pair of scissors with point toward you. I refuse to take it until they turn it round, and if they keep fussing I just walk away.
  3. Post-Apocolyptic Society

Rambler:: The Gilded Age, ie...gold plated authoritarianism. I was surprised by the hard concept hiding behind New Zealand's "lite" sci-fi show Cleopatra2525, where the environmental cleanup robots chase humanity into underground hiding. Serious yet funny stories with severe grafix involving a deep underground survival environment, with predictably great "lite sim" women's clothing. Opening Narrative: 500 years into the future she will enter a world where machines rule the earth. Mankind has been driven under ground. And Cleopatra is about to discover...there's no place like home.
  4. Viper:: WOW that is some amazing weather photography. Behind the rain we see more towering cumulus in the distant clear sunlit skies.
  5. Viper:: I wish. The photo is the low reddened sunlight reflecting off the bottom of the stratus clouds. It would be like asking The Sims developers to allow clouds to have sun-specular (or something shiny) for cloud layers, like the shiny water or sunshiny reflective LODs and skins. Same goes for sunlight turning contrails golden yellow. My wierdo stuff is high level only, but it fits with classical era strategic air warfare. Right now, the sim offers no practical way to simulate changes in sky appearance with altitude, although if we assume a cold hard winter season, the deep blue of high altitude carries down to sea level to a great degree. I have experimented with several layers of thin haze layers, and it works to create deepening blue with higher altitude, but at low level it washes out other sun/sky colours that, as we see in Viper's photo, can become surrealistically extreme at low level -- deep red or orange skies at sunset for example. So the haze layers are not very practical. I was able to get this however...this is moderately zoomed in view of the horizon from the cockpit, and when the Siberian sun is in the field of view as shown here, the sunglare is rendered and its brightness mixes with the ice crystal cirrus clouds and contrails, making them shine brighter as well -- but I guess this models a translucent effect, and not reflection as seen in Viper's thicker water clouds in the photo.
  6. Whoa!!! That is looking great. Double peak pulse. AwSim. Roundabouts what yield is that? 1MT?
  7. Menu folder uses 3 bmps, probably in the CAT file so you won't see them normally unless you extract them. The are called, at least in my setup, a radically modified menu system. initial game startup pic .... MAINSCREEN hanger pic ... SINGLEMISSIONSCREEN the screen shown when you click "fly" ... DEFAULTHANGARSCREEN
  8. streakeagle:: I am taking an initial look into it, and have some of the data, but neither WoI nor WoE, just the latest SF, which could be a problem. If I were to workup the FM openly on the forum, like with Timmy's MiG-9 FM (my first and only), I would love to get pointers from you or others.

    Wow, interesting project here! F-103?
  11. It has the required classical sharp lines, and is fairly unique, but also represents the end failure of Yak as a fighter designer facing competition.
  12. Major Lee's pad was the place where I found the Yaks, originally by Monty_CZ. However, The Pad does not seem functional now, and looks to be undergoing an upgrade.
  13. #2 A funny thing happened in TE (as always). I *think* I found large sand dunes in GTOPO30 data using TerrainEditor to develop "small" 1500km Siberia terrain, I stumbled over large areas in Mongolia with sheets of 3D terrain logg rolls in otherwise vast flat terrain areas: Example below. This is real 3D elevation in the terrain HFD file, showing correct sunlight shading. The areas where I found these rolls I think pretty much corresponded to larger desert Mongolian regions according to GoogleEarth. However, in the 6 Million Meter Map, using double Height Field Resolution to save on map memory size (4x worth), I lost all except a hint of these rolling loggs.
  14. Nah, no metal. I figure if SAC needed a NAVY bailout, the Tigers would fly with natural navy finish.
  15. Wow, nice plane! mmm, F7F range seems about half that of F-82, so maybe I won't be using it. Not sure. But it would make an interesting carrier based addition to escort or recon over parts of USSR. The hazy cockpit "glass" can be eliminated by deleting or renaming the file 69Glass found in the Cockpit folder. I suggest just rename it -- say, zzz69Glass -- to keep it handy.
  16. Wow, Ki-44 looks awsim too. That has always been my fave Pacific plane. A Japanese MiG-3 so to speak. I might be using Tigercat as a NAVY aid to escorting B-50s in the late 40s.
  17. Looks good W. I always thought a library of basic geometric 3D shapes of various sizes, all with a simple skin, would allow some interesting mutant modding. btw...your 1024 MiG-17 skin is fantastic. I use it in 512 form but I always try to save memory or performance. I figure it all builds up in very small pieces. Funny, I used to be able to load and run SF in a few seconds after running it the first time -- it all stays in memory. But if I run the 6M map, I lose that memory storage and it always takes about the same time to startup and loadup a mission as the first time.
  18. In the book Fire In The Sky, Eric Bergerud writes of mid-war Japanese pilots becoming confused in large furballs, hesitating to manuever to immediate threats. I'll guess that hurt the Japanese more because they flew slower against the generally faster teamwork slash attacks used by the Ussians. That, and lack of large team tactics and an insufficient radio comm culture, and probably many other things. Glad the smoke worked! I made the smoke to dazzle the player into rapturous awe. Should modern missiles smoke like that? I was thinking about classical missiles that I know a little about, not post-modern missiles. You must be real pilot. An F-16 pilot told story about big strike into Iraq (1991). He got a SAM, spotted it, but to manuever he had to drop tanks. He felt the need to watch the tanks drop away, having never seen it before. When he was Happy, he turned attention back to the SAM again. He must be real flight simmer. A tank is a terrible thing to waste, but maybe have pilots drop at least one (1) tank at least one time during training before somebody starts a war?
  19. Finally got WoV

Congratulations on THE WOV. You will find the most amazing gems in this one that are not found anywhere else. One WoV dynamic campaign is MK2's Aces of North Vietnam. rhugovi seems to have made a number of additions (Charlie's Aces) to MK2's campaign. Czech out the campaigns download section. I'd guess you start out with -17 and move up to -19 and some -21s, but I dunno (I'm slowly working my own SAC vs PVO campaign 1947-1967). The gems you just mined are the F-105 cockpit -- the most beautiful in the series to me, and A-6 and A-7 cockpits which are among the most "useful" cockpits (to me). Very useful ~> http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.p...d=a&start=8
  20. Nap, I found a pic I had long ago. Check emil.
  21. 76, where to find a T-49 picture on teh internets? I can't seem to find one now. I didn't think of making a loading screen for this. Nice. This waist is more extreme than on 152A, click up 3rd picture ~> http://www.ussr-airspace.com/index.php?mai...roducts_id=1558
  22. Right. Optical sight...for IR missiles and rockets I guess. You are goodtogo there. You can move the F-106 gunsight as desired, or move it out of view if needed.
  23. Done. I think. lemme know if you gotit.
  24. Swapping to round guages -- that is ~sweet~ I never thought that was possible. Ordway this is really nice. Did F-102 have a gunsight? If so ignore the mess that was poasted above.
  25. Ordway, its a peach to smackdown the gunsight. I used the gunsight to stack a classical junkpile. For my use, I raised it a pinch, then rotated it 45 degrees.
