  1. Yup. No. 4 is mostly Back up for their 2 ship. he'll support no.3 And take its place if no 3 either runs out of ammo or dead will take his place. (on the F-14 Atleast) If no 3 runs out of 54's and sparrows  and you have locked bandits on radar for more than 50 nm, no 4 as long as he is in formation will engage in place of no 3. No 2 is your wing man so you can tell him to do whatever you want. 2-1 to 2-4 and so on are lead by the by the 2-1 so you can only order the lead.

  2. When flying the Phantom, out of plane is the name of the game. There is almost nothing out there in that era and has the fighter label attached to it, then you can actually turn with it. Sure it is possible to start your turn transonic and bring your nose around by bleeding like hell, but that would only give you snap shots opportunities. Do note that, out of plane maneuvers will result in snap shot mostly as well, however at least you'll get them more consistently. The prime problem here is not the Phantom but the omniscient AI that always knows exactly where you are and has a pretty good idea where you would be, so even when dropping on it from a blind spot it will still perform the best gun defence available to it.

I've been using out of plane maneuvers(well mostly just zooming up and down.) I just cant get the timing of the phantom for guns. if its just the lima or ven the sparrows its not a problem. maybe its because im used to the tomcat and sabers? The phantom for me is just such a different beast. Dont get me wrong. I love the Phamtom, especially the navy ones. i just cant kill anyone with the gun unless they're bombers

  3. The AI super climb, yep, usually happens when i damage the AI kite 8debug shows heavy dmg status) but i havent found out what is causing the insane climb

Think we reported that already back in the beta test days of later SF2 games .. IIRC ...

    F1's

    F1AJ ?  ..

theres a F1JA (Ecuador), almost all books say its a E variant but its really a C derivative, it has the old F1C pit but the *long* (+7 cm) fuselage of the

C-200 series (which have the refuel probe) but the JA has no probe/IFR capability.

"True" E variants are usually heavier by about 100 kg due to the inertial NAV and doppler fitment + more electronics of the better HUD/NAV Attack System.

Those extra electronics reduce the fuel capacity by 200 liters

All F1 variants use the same engine

So there is no telling performance difference...

baffmeister made a new, further improved FM for our F1's which is great ... :ninja:

F1JA it was. Just mis remembered the name. I tried it out last night against the F4E phantom(late model). The fight took forever but i was able to be in a better position most of the time. Then took out the phantom against it and while i can easily out climb and out accelerate the F1. Getting a gun solution is another story. As much as i love the phantom i really can't figure that beast out, i'm a hopelessly loss in it without a Lima.

@Caesar. - cant wait for your DACTs. 6-7 mins is the average time i need to get the Victory. Guess i still have a long way to go. :)

  4. lololol

OK... now back to DACT ...

Been flying a certain F1E variant vs the TW Persian Tomcat ...

guns only , 75% fuel both

Starting co-heading, abeam with ~300-500 meter distance, about 350 kias (canned setup, similar to the "Speed and Angles" thing...)

turning towards each other .. the 14 turns much better and gains position immediately..  no contest

i pull up into a vertical spiral .. the TW Tomcat cant follow that, I gain a good height advantage after about 15-20 seconds

    about 4-5 spiral turns

Then the 14 runs out of oomph and puts the nose down.. time to convert the gained height into airspeed to follow the cat

down , closing for a gun attack

    2nd situation

    fully armed and fueled

    head-on, about 4-5 nm distance

14 shoots a Phoenix right away which becomes the primary threat

I ripple fire both Super 530's and execute a beam maneuver to defeat the Phoenix, jettision the CL tank as i go

If I'm lucky, one of the Super 530s connects before my radar runs into gimbal limits or the Phoenix hits

But usually, it works OK ... took me a few tries until i had figured out which beam maneuver works ..

Saw an illustratim of the F1 yesterday and been wondering how it flies. would you mind citing the established strength and weaknesses of the F1? is it a turn fighter or a BNZ energy fighter?

  5. Still playing with Cocas Fictinal Planes.

    F-14D vs SU-51 Fenix

Turned into the merged at 6Kft and started a diagonal left hand turn, crisscrossing up and down. After one revolution and pulling too many G's and dropping flaps, i got the Su-51 in my front quarters. How ever the Su-51 made it clear that it has the advantege in maneuverability as he quickly made a sharp turn and met my Jet for another merged. Were now in a two circle fight which will lead to a series of Head on passess. after the intial pass i tried going towards the vertical in an attempt to throw him into a loop. We merged and took a short burst as a detterent(hes shooting at me at will). Using the airspeed gained in my dive. I went for a high g left hand turn in hopes of getting in a much better position, but the Thrust vectoring on the Su-51 nullify whatever energy afvantage i had.after one revolution were back to a head to head approach, only this time the tomcat was significantly lighter and responds much better. two more passes where none of us can get a shot off and then i was able to turn my jet right into his flightpath, he was still spewing tracers but its my bullets that hit their mark. The rght engine caught fire. Forcing the tomcat to turn as tight as possible i yank its nose around towards the Su-51. I traced the SU across the Sky as it drifted in the air. I pulled the trigger but i was still too far. i waited a bit more and finished the Su a few meters off my nose.

  6. We currently have a typhoon so im stuck in my room. I Dl'd some of Cocas fictional Soviet new gen fighters and have been with them and here's one from last night.

    F-14D vs Mig-LFI, guns only.

We merged around 3-5 ft and started a diagonal left hand circle going about a couple of revolution around 450 to 500+Kias. Despite having baclkots the F-14 managed to stay with the LFI and left the fight neutral. I decided to went on a steeper angle on the descent but the LFI's superior Apha countered my intent by doing a hairpin turn breaking the one circle into two. but since he made such a sharp turn on his way up i have the edge on energy so i leveled the tomcat and went straight up for a vertical maneuver. i completed the loop and droped my flaps. at the botom of my loop i can saw the Mig floating perpendicular to my plane. I went up once more hoping to be able to catch the mig before it recover. I forgot that he was a 5th gen high alpha, high thrust, high maneuverability fighter. Though it didnt surprise me not to find him floating as i reaced the crest of my loop, I was hoping to find him still on a dive building up energy. it was a surprise to see him going at me guns blazing. I heard clatter of rounds on my planes airframe. Depending on the damage the tomcat might not be able to continue. so i kept her steady and waited hoping for the Mig to cut across my hud... Still spewing tracers the Mig-LFI kept straight on. I tapped the trigger and the LFI Flew straight into my vulcan's rounds. though receiving heavy damage on the left wing. The tomcat remained its structural integrety all the way till touchdown.

The LFI might be new gen but the Tomcat represent the best of the 4th gen fighters. Tough, rugged and willing to play. Anytime Baby!

  7. Yes

The distance should be tuned to the distance which you feel most comfortable with :

If most of the time you shoot at 300 m (0.2 nm) : tune 300 m.

On the Israeli Mirage IIIC, they made a field mod with 3 preset postions.

Thanks for the info Jeanba. So basically 500 means i have the most accurate lead right in between 0.2 to 0.3.

I'm curious about the field mod. does it allows you change the setting in flight and can it be applied to other planes?

  8. More a gunnery exercise than real DACT ;D

Looks like the boresight cross is missing in the HUD

In the cockpit ini, in the GunsightFront section, theres a value for DefaultLeadRange

In the TMF F-14A I have installed, its set to 500 Meters / 1640 ft

This value is used for lead computing without radar lock

500 meters value is a bit high

305 meters / 1000 ft works better for the typical close range no lock gunnery in SF

Yeah the Raptor didn't put up much of a fight.  The TMF's D models have a round reticle instead of a cross-hair. To be honest i don't understand how 305 meters and 500 meters means in gunnery and how they translate to accuracy. care to enlighten me on this subject? Does 305 lead computing means that the sight is programed to move/drop to give lead based on an aircraft 305 meters away regardless of actual distance of the AC in front?

  9. I was supposed to wait for other people's post before doing another DACT but everyone seems to have been bitten by Real Life. And since i don't know when i'll be catching this virus i'm posting while i still can. :)

F-14D vs F-22A guns only. All weapons engagement against the raptor requires being on the deck until he runs out of missiles or you getting shot down. That's why im sticking with guns.

My rwr was making noises and its telling me that someone is radiating my plane from 12 o'clock while my own radar ain't picking anything up. So i stayed on course and squinted my eyes on the screen waiting to have visual. He flew past my Tomcat real close. so begin a left hand circle. A steady pull and trying to fight the blackouts i managed to get on the raptor first. Still on the left hand turn i have the raptors on my HUD but without radar lock im trying to eyeball the lead with a non-static point of reference. I sprinkled its right wing a bit but it didn't do any damage. he pulled up into the vertical slipping to a right hand turn. With blowers on full i followed. My gun sight isn't moving that much and i couldn't trust it completely. I decided to fire a couple of short burst, estimating the distance and travel i tried to pinpoint how much lead i need. My tomcat is as stable as it can be flying as smooth as butter so i knew i can get him even if i waste half of my ammo testing. We entered a steady VC and pulling extra lead i fired a rapid succession of burst. The rounds landed and shreds the raptor.

Takeaways: Nothing much. The lead computing on the D without radar lock is a bit tricky. The fixed gun-sight of the F8 is actually a lot easier as you have a fixed point of reference to compute the lead needed on your head. While the Raptor is a truly hard nut to crack when it has its complement of 120s and 9X in AI's hand it still suffers from the Big fighter anomaly of the AI. Getting behind the raptor is easy enough, yo just have to be able to do the lead computing all by yourself. You may also just try to ram your nose up its exhaust for a no miss shot. :)

  10. @Saisran, i just had the chance the watch the videos,  and man those ARE some good gunnery skills by every means!

Thanks for the encouragement. Been working on it but still have a long way to go. :)

Being in a tropical country with high humidity and saline in the air. Gunk build ups in electronics tends to be high, so i got a contact cleaner and cleaned my 3D Pro and laptop with some swabs and microfibre cloth.. the effects were awesome!

    F-14B vs MirageM5CODM

Still running the same mission template. bandits low on my 3 with my plane about 5 Miles of separation. Turn and dove towards the bandit to execute the merge. nose up and into a right hand turn. Plugging the burners to allow my plane to turn hard without bleeding too much... a bit of blacking out but i already caught the Mirage desperately trying to gain speed extend. I unload the tomcat to give chase, the mirage answered by putting himself in a nose up altitude and breaking right. My stick guided the tomcat precisely in a position to anticipate where mirage will be. A quick press on the trigger and the poor mirage pilot never had a chance as the rounds disintegrates the forward section of the mirage including the cockpit.

    F-14B vs Kfir C7

Another new download from the mirages series prevalent in our DL section at the moment. This vid has two engagement averaging 2 mins.

Fight 1 -  I met the Kfir in zero throttle and went in the predetermined right turn. Dropping my Airspeed to 300Kias at the same time giving him time to reach 400+Kias which is the Kfir's best turning speed. I caught an angle which made the tomcat feel light and within these angle the tomcat was turning really well. Maintaining the speed and angle. After a couple of circles i was able to lock the kfir on radar. The Kifir responded by breaking hard into my jet. I rolled my jet in the opposite direction which i plan to string together with a vertical manouver but the Kfir pulled to hard, got too slow and too low and crashed.

Fight 2 -  I went into the merge and allow the Kfir to get behind the tomcat. Rigth afte the Kfir passed from right to the left of the Cat i breaked left hoping to start the engagement in a scissor but the Kfir was too far back and stayed on my six. Since he doesnt have a gun solution i continued the turn trying best to maintain a good turn rate. The time it took for the tomcat to shake the Kfir and took its six caught me by surprised. What seems like 1 or 2 revolution i was already behind the kfir  He reversed his turn and i was able to train my sight on him effortlessly. it would have been a perfect engagement if not for me trying to be a sniper and shooting at the MUCH smaller plane from half a mile away( i forgot that he was going above 400 Kias and im still under 400 Kias) after a fewof misjudged shots i was able to settle down and wait for the best shot possible. That moment didnt took long. Tomcat was surging and the Mirage slowed down. Seing a target i cannot miss. I slamed the brakes hold her steady and pressed the trigger! The rounds took the left wing of the Kfir sending it down.

Cleaning and recalibrating my hardwares made a big difference as the 3d pro felt and performed like new. previously i felt that i was moving the control surfaces in inches but now i feel like i was moving them in milimeters. This allowed me to move the control surfaces just right to allow for maximum authority without triggering too much induce drag. The way the Tomcat responded was just so wonderful!
