F-4D markings for LORAN F-4Ds in SE Asia
mppd replied to mppd's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Uh, roger that - no lights on the antenna......you're kidding right? Kinda would make like a nice christmas tree effect at night though, wouldn't it.... Seriously, as far as I can tell, the tape lights were not in exactly the same location on every airplane. I have photos where it is really angled on the nose, and in slightly different positions on the vertical stab. A revised F-4D version would be nice for public release with the correct under-radome RHAW antenna housing. Or instead of that, how about creating a lump that we can position over the existing later-model housing? I have lots of ideas for little add-ons for F-4s which have not yet been modeled - and I have no 3-D capability. Mike -
F-4D markings for LORAN F-4Ds in SE Asia
mppd replied to mppd's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
The antenna was an idea that came from YAP originally. That version has actual working tape lights at night and is well worth obtaining, but this version will not. We could not get permission to use that antenna as a freeware item, so I asked FastCargo if he could make one up for me. He tweaked it for me according to a few drawings and photos I had, and I think it looks great. I'm doing decals for the individual airplanes and will use the textures I made up before. I either have serial number listings or actual photos of all the birds in the theater, so I just had to interrupt the Marine A-6A decals to do this. Thanks for the compliment by the way. Hope this generates a little interest so everyone will rush to their stash of photos and contribute something towards the project. The D model is still my favorite version. It is in need of a makeover by the Mirage Factory however, like they have started to do with the F-4G and RF-4E. Mike D. -

Wag, What values are you using for earlier model F-4s? I think that we'd all love to see them posted! Thanks again for the input. Mike D. -
How to create TER's that only carry two bombs
mppd replied to malibu43's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I just went thru a project tweaking the loadouts for the F-4. I wanted to be able to load correct weapons from the single mission loadout screen, like 2xMk83 1000 lb on TER, or 2xBLU-1 Napalm on TER, or 3xMk82 500 lb FE on TER. I ended up changing weight and length of the individual weapon entries in the weapondata.ini file, and/or adjusting what the TER could carry in weight per station to get what I wanted. Same with specifying what AAMs of gunpods could be loaded - ended up creating duplicate weapon entries with a different file name, with different nationality attachment type or start/end use date to get what I wanted (with corresponding entries in the aircraft data.ini). It was fun and I learned a lot. Mike Druzolowski -
497th TFS Night Owl Textures

File Name: 497th TFS Night Owl Textures File Submitter: mppd File Submitted: 20 Apr 2008 File Category: F-4 Night Owl 497th TFS F-4D textures Version 2 This is a small add-on for the stock Wings over Vietnam F-4D (that I forgot I did). Although done before in several nice packages packages (one by Sundowner available here and one available through a Yankee Air Pirate mission set) these textures are all black-belly Night Owl birds from the 497th TFS, 8th TFW at Ubon RTAFB, Thailand which match my other F-4 texture packages, and of course all are actual serials from photos. The previous version had some missing files - my apologies to all. The LORAN airplanes require the mod created for Yankee Air Pirate, with a slight ini tweak as sent to me by Sundowner, so I cannot include it here. As usual, drop the folder into your F-4D folder and fly. Enjoy, Mike Druzolowski Click here to download this file -
497th TFS Night Owl Textures
mppd replied to mppd's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
I didn't intend to step on anyone's toes, but I had done these textures to go along with my other released USAF Phantom paint. I put these up for everyone because it has real serial number assignments, and as always, I was trying to shake loose any photos which anyone might have of additional airplanes painted up this way. The LORAN antenna is a copywrited Yankee Air Pirate item, so requires the mission set 41-50 I think to obtain it, until someone makes a freeware one that is. Tanks were either all black, all dark green, dark green with black under, or just standard camo/light grey. I didn't make any note about how to change tanks - most everyone should be able to do that by now I think. Both Sundowner and the Yankee Air Pirate missions have F-4D data.ini files with working tape lights, which I did not include again to not infringe on copyrights. Mike D. -

AIM-4D carried by F-4D and E
mppd posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Has anyone come up with entries for the stock WOV F-4D or E for carrying the AIM-4D on a rail inside of the intermediate pylon and on a rail underneath that same pylon. This was the air-to-air config for F-4Es in Europe during the 70s and for the F-4D in SEA until about 1970 or so before the D was modified to carry the Sidewinder (many Ds still carried Falcons into the Linebacker phase). Aternately, 2xFalcons inboard only and std TER under the pylon as usual. Am aware of the StationGroupID limits, just wondering if anyone came up with something workable. Thanks, Mike D. -
File Name: Fix for Marine A-6A markings on Razbam A-6A File Submitter: mppd File Submitted: 9 Apr 2008 File Category: A-6/EA-6 This is a fix for the decal splashing that is occurring underneath the fuselage of the Razbam A-6A when any of my Marine decal mods are installed. I made the fuselage star and bar as a painted-on marking on the fuselage .bmp texture, and made the MARINES decal smaller. The star appears a bit fuzzy now (as many folks like when markings are painted on the texture), but the odd splashing that was appearing underneath the rear fuselage are gone. I also tweaked the fuselage textures a bit here and there. Back up your old files in case you don't like this fix. Mike Druzolowski Click here to download this file

New A-6 skins
mppd replied to GASCAN39's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
The markings for VMA(AW)-533 at Nam Phong have been submitted to CA, and here is a screenshot of the last of the land-based Marine units in Vietnam to do: VMA(AW)-225 at Da Nang, still to finish all the bureau numbers. I am having a splashing problem under the fuselage with the large decal for the combined fuselage star and the MARINES - if this is objectionable I can make the star a part of the base art and just add the small decal for the MARINES to get rid of it (it sort of looks like an oil stain or something so it really didn't bother me that much). File Name: VMA(AW)-533 A-6 skin Nam Phong File Submitter: mppd File Submitted: 9 Apr 2008 File Category: A-6/EA-6 VMA(AW)-533 repaint for the Razbam A-6A (white/grey radomes) This is the second of the four Marine Corps A-6A units which flew in Vietnam, and the base model is again the recently released A-6 Intruder by Razbam. It will not work with the original WOV A-6A or the add-on created by Monty CZ. The few photos I have of these aircraft at Nam Phong RTAFB all have white/light grey radomes. 16 airplanes are depicted here as seen over the 1972-73 time period. As always, any additional photos or info from anyone would be appreciated. Thanks again to Prowler and the Razbam team for a great product. Mike Druzolowski Click here to download this file -

Stock WOV decals for the Razbam A-6A

File Name: Stock WOV decals for the Razbam A-6A File Submitter: mppd File Submitted: 6 Apr 2008 File Category: A-6/EA-6 Here is a temporary fix to allow you to fly the Razbam A-6A in WOV using the default WOV decal markings, until all the modders out there create new markings specific for the Razbam offering. Several default decals are included in slightly modified form to fit the new Razbam vertical fin and rudder shape. I have also added random bureau numbers (which were always missing from the default WOV A-6A markings) and Modex numbers to nose and flaps in the 400-600 range. Thanks to JSF_Aggie, and of course Prowler and the Razbam team for a great product. Mike Druzolowski Click here to download this file -

Gull Grey A-6 Intruder Skin for Third-Wire model
mppd replied to gerwin's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
You did a nice job, and this was way overdue. Well worth the download for anyone that does not spend the money on the Razbam model. You are right about the speed brakes on the fuselage. Once these were sealed off, the original black was usually overpainted in the fuselage grey/white, and A-6Es I think were seen without the holes. The nose colors were black from Grumman originally, then a mod came out and they were white to tan in color, or painted grey/white as fuselage. Mike D. -

Thanks Frank, Had to adjust a couple of the stock decals for the vertical fin - the Razbam shape is a bit different. And I have never seen a carrier-based Intruder unit with 100-300 series nose modex numbers, so I didn't include them either. No decals for carrier name or unit either, just bare bones for now. Now back to the Marine Corps bird decals... Mike -

New file submitted for everyone - mod to allow the default WOV A-6A decals to work with the Razbam A-6A - now includes bureau numbers on vertical fin which WOV forgot. (Having trouble uploading from work PC - will try again tonight if it doesn't go through). At least you can now fly all WOV and YAP missions with the Razbam model until all you modders come up with great new skins and decals for it! Mike D. -

Thanks for the compliments. Sorry that the color schemes are unremarkable, but that's what they looked like in Vietnam. Still a few more serials (bureau numbers I guess in Navy/Marine parlance) to do. Someone doing Navy Attack Squadrons? Mike -

WOV F-4 Airbases - Home of the F-4D/E Phantoms
mppd replied to swambast's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The revised WOV USAF F-4 Tailcode decals I did had some historical content within it. If you have any specific questions about histories of units in Southeast Asia I can probably help you out. Udorn, Ubon and Da Nang were probably the three most prominent Phantom II bases for USAF units during the war. Da Nang, Chu Lai and Nam Phong were the Marine F-4 bases. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=5591 and http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=5408 Mike D.
