SquadronList.ini in SF2?
mppd replied to AGOSTINO's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I think so - try it! It takes only a moment to go in-game to see if it's different...yes? -
SquadronList.ini in SF2?
mppd replied to AGOSTINO's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Wherever you add-ons are (for my XP install, it is in My Documents - Thirdwire - StrikeFighters2 Vietnam - Pilotdata). I think I had to create the Pilotdata folder, then I copied over my custom Squadronlist.ini from my older YAP2/WOV installs. Mike -
Modding acft for SF2-Vietnam
mppd posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I spent some time yesterday playing with my SF2-V install. Has anyone else been able to get the "Fake-pilot" method by Fast Carago of adding parts to work, or to make parts go away using the "Rename as a component" method? Am I missing a thread here or something. Thanks -

Thanks for taking the time to help me - it works as it used to...but only if you have the correct part name!!! As I keep saying, senility is a terrible thing... Mod away! Mike -

Modding acft for SF2-Vietnam

Thanks for taking the time - works fine in WOV, however, have you tried this in SF2-Vietnam?? I cannot get it to work. Has anyone successfully eliminated a part in SF2-V this way??? Thanks again, Mike -

Believe me, I hate change. But I'm trying to roll with the punches. Have you tried opening up an acft .LOD?? No bmps, no parts names in the normal manner...? Very confusing. I have parts appearing thanks to you guys, but still am at a loss how to eliminate parts if we want to. Any ideas? -

Wait - so how do we eliminate parts now? I still couldn't get that to work...? Me -
Single aircraft purchases?
mppd replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'm just a sucker for anything Vietnam-related for the Third Wire series. I've said it many times, and I'll still say it - it is THE simulation that I would have created myself if I had the talent and the time. And I know there have been some issues with certain folks over various things, but the bottom line is that I still love WOV and anything made for it that enhances the Southeast Asian aviation experience through WOV. (I was trying to get over there myself before it was all over with, but did not get out of High School until 1974). If it's for SEA, I'll buy it. No questions asked. I have the Razbam Skyraiders and A-6, but passed up on the Phantom/Banshee or whatever it was. I'd be first in line for a new F-105D/F/G series (including the early bird before the spine and scoops). The F-4, well, I have started to address that through Crab's help. Yeah, I know...I should be able to start building a Thud myself by now.... Mike -

O.K. so my new "fakepilot" will have its own folder, just like my new "seat", in my new objects/Pilots folder which I have to create..... I'd have never figured that one out on my own until I saw someone else make something first. Thanks very much for the help folks! Me -
Modding acft for SF2-Vietnam
mppd replied to mppd's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Well, if I can sort this modding thing out, and if I can get the prop-driven stuff flying (Razbam Skyraiders, T-28, A-26K) I'll keep it for the shadows, weapon drag, and supposed better AI. I installed YAP2 into it, but don't know what the helos are like and need to test the props yet. The folder deal doesn't bother me that much. I tried moving the location and changing the path in the options.ini, but it defaults back to the MY Documents folder in XP. The new F-4 stuff I'm working on seems fine in the new game. But this modding thing is driving me nuts. What am I missing? Mike -

As I said, this is for the new SF2 series. Is something different in the game engine that prevents this? I really loved the modability of the old WOV install. If these things won't work anymore, I'll dump SF2-V and go back to the old install for good. Thanks, MPD -

Has anyone created one of these? Marines used them on F-4s for sure in Vietnam. Thanks, Mike D. -

Wing tanks with different pylons
mppd posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
With the F-4C/D series I'm about to release, I updated the wing tanks to have the pylons be part of the tank when jettisoned (as I found out is what actually happens), but I have a question about the pylons. They are actually opposite hand with minor differences. Is there a way to call out the tank from the weapon selection page and have the tank/pylon combo be different? If I make them both part of the same .LOD they won't jettison as realistically, and the selection menu entry will be odd. There are few enough weapon stations to make each tank have their own, and again loading is odd. My best bet I think is to cheat them a bit and make them symmetrical and everyone will be happy. Thanks, Mike D. -

Rocket pod end caps
mppd posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Has anyone found a way to eliminate the end caps from rocket pods (before firing rockets...)? The Zuni LAU-10 tubes seen on Marine F-4s in Vietnam never seemed to have the end caps installed. Tried eliminating the weps entry for covers and it didn't do it. Can always redo the base .LOD I guess. Thanks, Mike D. -

Thank you so much - I owe you a great favor! You are the best. I just found it now - file name LAU_10.rar. I did all my searches for LAU-10. Computer kept sayin' nope- aint there... Mike -

Can I have a copy of this? This is definately worth an upload also. I have never seen a photo with those end caps installed in SE Asia. Thanks very much, Mike D. -

I'll make them new - got a nice ordie illustration with any dimensions? A dual and triple pod for the TER would be good too. This should be a quick projects. We don't need the 4 tubes to be modeled inside do we? A bit of art would suffice I would think to simulate them, or no? Thanks, Mike -

Ya know, I was really happy with the 08 patch with weapon drag values and better AI. The new file system of SF2-V is a real turn off, and the cockpits don't show me a thing...I was thinking of porting the new F-105 external model into an 08 patch, and I'm doing all new (well, not NEW but better) Phantom IIs...I may not have the SF2-V install for much longer on my hard drive.... I have not created a cockpit yet, so that's out of my league. I'll stick to reworked max files, tweaks and tanks and such for now. Well, I may have a deuce in the works but don't tell anyone... MPD
