Roger that, standard SEA 3-color scheme. Minimal stenciled markings, fairly worn finish. Trying to spiff up the textures using some photo scans of engine exhaust nozzle petals, and rear fuselage bare metal areas. Changed some panel lines and paint pattern to match photos from war zone. I should stop over at the Bradley Air Museum to get some digital pics of the F-4D they have, but am working 12 hour days (third shift to boot) so free time is minimaluntil late November. No sharkmouth on the E nose. Mike D.

I'm going to upload a set of 1024 pixel F-4 textures that I tweaked from Sundowner's template to go with my tailcode decal project (with his permission). I don't see the advantage of the 2048 pixel size for normal external views, and it really drags the framerate down on modest systems (mine). I'd love to see your work for release - can't ever get enough Phantom skins. Can you send me a copy of the formations.ini for those tight shots? Thanks and keep up the great work, Mike D.

Thanks for the compliments. I was actually hoping for some feedback about corrections and additions from someone with a closetfull of photos from a tour in fighters in Thailand or South Vietnam... Anyway, Sundowner is letting me release a set of tweaked F-4 skins as a good base for these tailcodes. I scaled them down to 1024 to help framerate on modest systems, and they look great. The F-4E needs a nose texture without the sharkmouth (it's a decal now). His work is the best. I made an entire second install version of the tailcodes with a completely new squadronlist.ini - much more elegant in the pull-down menu, but would require manually editing any mission/campaign files since the squadron names are different (this is what I have on my PC) but I didn't bother to upload it. If someone can do this up for me I would be in your debt! I can dig up dimensions if needed! The Rivet Haste F-4Es that went to Udorn's 555th TFS in late 1972 had TISEO, slatted wings, tape lights and the long-gun nose "Midas 4" mod. These were picked up by the 25th TFS in 1974. Thanks, Mike D. -
Watching what's been done for the F110A model- adding objects to simulate a desired subject, what are the possibilities of using some type of object to simulate the TISEO housing on the left wing leading edge of F-4Es so fitted? Or could someone create the item and add it as a piece of ordnance? Can I help in some way, although I am not a 3-D modeler? Mike Druzolowski

Also included are my F-4 serial number decals, plus a little historical info for reference. A new squadronlist.ini file is provided with new entries, but none of the original squadron entries are altered so you do not need to edit any existing campaign or mission files. I'd appreciate any input for mistakes/corrections and of course additions. (The TGA decals have some reference marks on them also to allow anyone to use them to create new markings!) Sundowner created skins for use in many packages by USAFMTL I believe - however he is going to let me release the Tailcode package with his skins (or if too large a file, I'll put them out as a separate file with some minor adjustments - no F-4E sharkmouth or imbeded star & bar, minor color tweaks, etc. His skins are great, and super detailed at 2048 pixel resolution, but WOV runs better on my PC with 1024 res skins - that is what I'll release it with. It's almost as good for general external shots unless you are zooming in VERY close, and the 1024 is a good compromise. Someone should put out a list of works with his skins - I guess I should, I think I have every F-4 skin available for WOV! Mike D. -

Thanks everyone, was not sure if there was any interest in the default SE Asian Phantom schemes. I'm using Sundowner's basic 1024 pixel skins on my own install (with some unauthorized color shifts), but the package contains decals only so that you can use any skins of your choice (except for a mod to the default 512 pixel F-4E nose which has the sharkmouth deleted - it is now a decal). Another day or so...the new squadronlist.ini contains additions but contains no changes to the default squadrons so that no editing is required for existing missions or campaigns. Mike D. -
Almost finished with this project - some 59 aircraft schemes for USAF F-4C/D/E aircraft in SE Asia (WOV). Decal TGAs for tailcodes, fin tip colors, canopy rail colors, tape lights, wing/squadron insignia. Thought that the default decals needed a revision with a little historical flare. Some schemes not seen before. Mike Druzolowski

Can anyone shed some light on how to get a nose door decal working on the stock WOV F-4C/D (typically the last three digits of the aircraft serial number)? I have poked through the .LOD file with a hex editor and tried several things on the most likely mesh name but with zero results. Thanks very much, Mike Druzolowski

Fix for F-4E serial numbers View File This is a fix for F-4E serial numbers used by TAC when deployed to Southeast Asia in 1972-73. The first two digits are the Fiscal year of manufacture, unlike PACAF's system of dropping the first digit of the serial number. Just drop these into the objects-decals folder and over-write the old files. In addition, new TGA files are supplied for TAC F-4Ds of the 49th TFW from Holloman which deployed to Takhli RTAFB. These aircraft had serial numbers in all white and were of a split-stencil style. The new F-4D decals.ini has these at the bottom of the list with "HO" after the serial number. All 20 listed aircraft actually flew with theone of the four squadrons of the 49th at Takhli with "HB", "HC", "HD" and "HE" tailcodes, then all recoding at Takhli to "HO" codes in mid-1972. Thanks. I submitted a slight fix, since TAC Phantoms TDY to SE Asia in 72-73 had a different serial representation than PACAF - the actual fiscal year was used for the first two digits, PACAF just deleted the first and used the next two. (66-7688 would appear as 66-688 for TAC, 67-688 for PACAF). Also included split-stencil serials for the 49th TFW from Holloman F-4Ds TDY to Takhli in the fix. Below are screenshots of a few tails from the decal project (using Sundowner's 1024 pixel skin). Mike D. -

This was prompted by observing that no real F-4C serials are provided for in the simulation, nor were the original FY1967 serials for F-4Es that first arrived in theater in 1968. The FY68 and 69 F-4E serials at the end of the list are all white and are TAC aircraft which were TDY in Southeast Asia in 1972-73. New tailcodes and correct fin tip colors coming! How about a Pave Knife laser designator pod as it appeared in 1971-72 under the wings of F-4Ds of the 8th TFW from Ubon? I can supply at least a basic side view drawing and could do the simple dark green/white texture for it? Would love to see one created! Thanks, Mike Druzolowski -
Please forgive me if this topic has been beaten to death in all of the forums, but after re-reading every post that I could locate, I still have a question. How can I RETAIN the lensflare effect but get rid of the giant white rectangle that surrounds the sun in WOV?? Most posts get rid of the lensflare effect, but I rather like it. Is anyone else getting this or is this a function of patching and/or my graphics card. I have not installed the last patch since WOV would not run after doing so on my old PC, and I have too much installed now (YAP) to patch again. Mike Druzolowski
