DVD Version of "Combat Flight Simulator 3" by Ubisoft
corsaire31 replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Well, there will come a time when you won't be able to have any new customer for OFF if there's no CFS3 DVD anymore on the market. The quantities everywhere seem to be very low ! This is the problem of developping something nice but based on a very old and unsuccessful game. -
DVD Version of "Combat Flight Simulator 3" by Ubisoft

Looks like the community will soon have to multiply DVDs for the newcomers... -
It would be good that advancing trucks and tanks wouldn't cross the airfield during take-off, as it happened to me yesterday. I was so amazed looking at my wingman rolling just in between two of them that I forgot to take a picture !

For french pilots (or other...) , Ubisoft DVD is still available for 6.40 Euros at Amazon.fr... (with a relay on the Amazon page to other vendors like Century Soft) Says 15 left, that's where I bought mine a couple months ago. -
New TrackIR5 Profile - smooth, but still quite immediate
corsaire31 replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Depends where your monitor stands, my Track IR 5 is on the top of my monitor and just about 80 cm - a little over 30 inches - from the hat reflectors and works great ! -
There was a time where I had porridge at breakfast, specially in winter...

By the way it's funny to see this FM war has been carried on to the RoF official forum with the Camel and the DR1...

I was talking about the midges of course, couldn't remember the name... old age coming ! Anyway they had us spend a couple of nights in the car, we couldn't hold inside the tent !

Although I live now in Toulouse, I was born and lived a long time in Brittany. Of course in my young days I visited all my fellow celtic countries (was very much involved in celtic culture and music at the time)... two things come to my mind from my scottish tour : climbing the Ben Nevis on a beautiful clear day ( must happen once every 100 years or so...) and " haggis and fries". I could add a hundred of other things, it is really a beautiful place and just talking about it makes me feel like planning another trip. If they just could get rid of all the mosquitos... (I was camping on my tour ! )

Spawning Friendly and Enemy Flights
corsaire31 replied to Panama Red's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Man, I never use anything like "warp" or "jump to next waypoint" ! Talk about an immersion-killer ! I usually fly close to the last waypoint before airfield, but then I was concentrating on my own touchdown and not looking at what the other guys were doing. Thks for the info on landing, better exit the mission than see them in the trees. Seems to be a WW1 problem as until the last releases RoF planes where also finishing their missions in trees or hangars... In a way, objects are always "spawning" because you move around your virtual world in a 3D bubble, and objects only appear in 3D if they enter your bubble. I agree the difference is if this appearance is linked to a trigger, or if the way followed by all the objects is computed in real time, which is the case with the OFF manager, which means you can go anywhere and meet other planes on duty if they enter your 3D bubble. -
Spawning Friendly and Enemy Flights

Talking about landing, there is no command to ask your wingmen to RTB ? Whenever I land at home base, I never see wingmen landing, they seem to vanish in the air ... Or should I wait some time to see them land ? As they are pretty poor quality pilots (every time you make a turn they continue straight for a mile before realizing the leader changed heading then it takes them 5 minutes to rejoin...) may be they're affraid of landing ? lol ! Or did I miss something ? -
Very nice place, probably a bit too warm for me... I just put on pics of my garden so here a few more from the town. Toulouse is built with special stones from the Garonne river, which give it its nickname of "the pink city". It is a fairly large town (1.2 million people with the surroundings ) with Universities and High Tech and aeronautics industries ( this is the home of Airbus )

My words about the price was an understatement... it is very cheap of course, even if more expensive I probably would have jumped in anyway, just to verify the happy comments you guys were posting in this forum...

I've been around Combat Ace for some time mainly for the Thirdwire part ( I still fly WOV and WOE - ODS from time to time ) At the same time I was in the process of going backwards in the history of flight. After many years flying jets ( Falcon 3.0 and 4.0 mainly ) I had switched to flying props to stop pushing buttons in the last years (IL2 1946 - tried CFS2 in its time but not really enthusiastic). I remembered playing a lot Red Baron in the old days so decided to continue the backward process. I jumped in Rise of Flight 18 months ago for the multiplayer part mainly and joined a squadron as it's really nice to fly with friends from different countries. In the beginning I was waiting for the "Phase 4" release, but when I understood what "two weeks" really mean and the prices were down to a very reasonable level, I ordered my DVD. After a few flights in BHaH I downloaded HitR and here we are...

Herr Prop Wasche's Camel Anti-Stall "T" Mod Preview
corsaire31 replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
In the Flaming Eagles of War beta organized by the Italians in Rise of Flight, we managed to have 100 pilots in the air. Missions would be open for the whole afternoon and evening and each squadron had its home airfield. The map was big enough so we could fly DFWs until the last drops of fuel which was over 2,5 hours flights (I remember doing a solo damage assessment reco flight which lasted 1h 45mns and didn't meet anyone) and despite the number of planes flying managed to have bombing missions with escorts without being bounced by more than 2 or 3 planes. It was really the best experience I had so far, the beta will be finished over the summer and I hope we can have serious things started in September ! Even on regular servers like The Syndicate, I make 1 hour high altitude patrols without seeing more than 2 or 3 planes and the maps are big enough that if you want to climb to reasonable altitudes it takes 15 + mins to get over the front line. I agree that with no doubt OFF is the best solo experience I had so far in a flight sim ( together with Falcon 4.0 where you also have the feeling of a real war going around ) except that part about fighting AI planes. You also know after a while in advance what tactics they will use in combat and it becomes a bit boring to see them always do the same. Although on the other side they cheat by having a permanent 360° vision which often prevents surprise attacks... The sadistic joy of falling down from the sky in a Spad XIII on a poor guy who is reading his map to try and find his way...lol ( Less funny when it happens to you, which is also quite often ) I will keep both flying solo offline for the "war feeling" and historical depth and multi online in an organized group to get the best of both ! -

Problem with OFF is the same as any other combat flight sim, no matter how much you try to trim the AI planes and logic, it will never equal the thrill and challenge of flying online with and against other human pilots... specially when it comes with the handling of your wingmen ! -
These last pictures really look like England ! Nice place you have...

Equipment is an already old Nikon D90, cheap Nikon DX objectives ( 18-105 mm and 55-300 mm ) and a second hand Sigma 150-500 mm... Other equipments include a camo chair, a gillie suit and various camo nets. Most important part of the equipment is observation and many, many hours of waiting !

Olham, I confirm these are my pics, photography is my other hobby... you can see more at http://www.flickr.co...tos/corsaire31/ if you still have a doubt ! General view of the garden : PS : it was one of the 2 or 3 days we had snow this winter ...

The Ultimate sound mod compilation ( with Creaghorn and Andy73 sound mods ) is installed via JSGME in the OBD Software folder. HPW FMs and DMs, as well as Arc Mod for HPW FMs are made to be installed via JSGME inside the CFSWW1 Over Flanders fields folder. Of course you can have one JSGME installed in both folders, but it's easier to manage with everything at the same level. I decided to stick everything in the OBD Software folder, so the idea is simply to add the CFSWW1 Over Flanders fields level to the HPW FMs and DMs mods. I agree it would be simpler for people not willing to stick their hands under the hood that all mods be released at the same level... -

The Bletchley Missions and AA, and the Buddy1998 missions work with a JSGME installed in the main OBD Software folder... ( if you look inside the mod folder, you will see they start with a CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder. -

Gonna have to re-purchase HITR
corsaire31 replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
May be I am over cautious, but I had so many surprises in the last 25 years that I always have 3 copies of important stuff... 1 on a second PC HD, 1 on external HD and 1 CD or DVD depending of size. For OFF I have a CD with BHaH patches, HitR and 1.47 patch that is stored with my game DVD. For RoF and IL2 1946 I have whole folder copy of the games last version on external HD ( 24 Gigs for my IL2 install) so I just have to reinstall from the original DVD and make a copy of the whole folder on top. -
HPW Combined FM and EW mod here!
corsaire31 replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thks for info Olham... I know the theory ( been flying a lot of Albatros DIIs and Noops in RoF and I know the Noop is an Albatros killer at low altitude) but this time I tried to help one of my poor wingmen and as you said it turned out it was not a good idea. This was just a try-out anyway to see how the planes were behaving with the new FM, when I fly serious careers I am a lot more careful at picking up my fights and my first aim is to survive another day. Generally I find until now the AI planes in OFF to be a lot more dangerous than in RoF, where most of my careers have ended through collisions and flak (even when flying mods on). I find the AI to be one weak point of RoF that's why I usually fly MP.
