F/a 37 Talon
SayethWhaaaa replied to roulettes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Shin, the only problem with being able to accelerate from M1 to M4 quickly (or as quick as they do in the film) is that your bones and organs would be crushed to death under the G strain. You might reach Mach 4 in 30 seconds, but you'd be dead in 15 On the speed issuse, I've had aircraft cruising at Mach 3 after I've used the Alt+N trip skip thingo, but unless I slow down dramatically (and I mean making a vert tight turn to bleed speed, speedbrakes, the works) I'll burn up in under 20 seconds. Although when I trip skip when I RTB, I usually find my aircraft cruising back to base at Mach 2+ without any issues... -
What ever happened to the wooden spoon? When growing up, my sister and I learned to fear and respect that wooden spoon! We hardly (if ever) got smacked with it, but the fear of doing something that would warrent the WS punishment was enough to keep us in line

Exotic/Fictional/Stealth Aircraft

Again, see the Works In Progress sticky. It gets updated, the info on whether, or whether not an aircraft is, or will be available will be in there. You also forgot to mention Firefox or the YF-19 and YF-21 from Macross Plus Gerald14 was also kind enough to make a model of the Su-47 Berkut, sadly, no-one has developed it :cray: -

Sentou Yousei Yukikaze kicks ass, although, I never did quite get the ending. It was very... Neon Genesis-esque... I read an interview with the guy who wrote the Yukikaze books and the art director from the series and they both spoke about taking either existing designs, or unflyable designs and basing the aircraft in the show on those. Hence the double fuselage looking Sukhoi contraption, the Super Silth and the design Yukikaze transferred into in the second (third?) episode onwards. Personally, I liked those Japanese carrier jets, the Eurofighter looking things. It's a shame no one has tried building one. My 3dms skills are still kinda crappy... -

Alrighty... two things that'll solve most of your questions. This link here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=16806 ...will give you info on just about every modern aircraft (give or take) and it's relation to SFP being either released, work in progress, or unavailable. Second, if you see there are aircraft you want to d-load, go straight to the downloads section at the top of the screen and look in the appropriate section (in this case the Thirdwire Series (SF/WOV/WOE/WWI) section). The add-on aircraft are divided into the appropriated eras Modern, Cold war, WW2 or WW1. Helicopters has it's own section. Now as for the other questions... (deep breathe ) 1. No VTOL for the Switchblade (F/A-37) as of yet, also no EDI 2. No V-22 thus far... 3. Pugachev's cobra isn't in the game as such, however, pulling your nose up in high alpha aircraft and inducing stall is one way of perfoming this move in the SFP series. 4.*Lavi <<------No, or at least if anyone's working on it, they haven't spoken up. It's a P.O.S. anyways IMHO *F-16I Soufa <<------------------ In downloads *F-15E Strike Eagle (with conformal tanks) <<------------------ In downloads *J-10(chinese copy of Lavi) <<------------------ Not a Lavi copy, W.I.P. last I heard *IDF fighter <<------------------ If that's the FC-1/17 might be in dev, not sure 5. There's a Su-27 in the works by Marcfighter and those lovely Frenchies@ CheckSix. Gonna take a while, but worth it!!!!! Su-30/35/37 may, i repeat, MAY come out after that. Don't hold your breathe though 6. Boeing's XF-32 has been put on hold indefinitely. Those they are developing it as an in-house project, but only in concept. 7. SuperHornet was born out of the A-12 Avenger/NATF fiasco. Originally designed as an improvement to earlier Hornets, it became a stop-gap to produce both air defence fighter and improved strike platform after the cancellation of the NATF (essentially a navalised F-22) and due to the realisation that the US navy's mud moving capabilities lagged behind the USAF during the Gulf War. With contractors not being able to produce a new platform before 2020, Boeing(or whoever it was at the time MDC?) proposed a larger, more capable version of the Hornet as an interim platform to replace the A-6/A-7 in ground pounding and the F-14D in the air defence roles. Despite the fact it is actually a new design that incorporates newer technologies, design philosophies including a limited degree of stealthing, it was sold to Congress as "improved model" and therefore a low risk design compared with tendering for new designs. It is essentially a larger and much improved F/A-18C/D but apparantly isn't quite as potent as the F-14D. It doesn't have AIM-54 capability, but the Tomcat had limited datalink cabability and no AESA, so the tradeoff was considered acceptable. It also fits into the USN/USAF doctrine of the "High/Low mix" with carriers embarking a combination of light and heavier fighters (just as the USAF uses the F-15/F-16 combination) Awwwww... Kazamashin! You beat me to the punch Contrary to popular opinion, I do actually get out of the house! So to the pub I go! -

SayethWhaaaa replied to Shin_kazama's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I dunno Dave, it might turn out to be a good plane, but many of the partner nations are getting screwed in the program at the moment even the UK, whose aircraft are supposed to have parity of importance with US copies being that they're a tier 1 partner. And the biggest problem with a "one type fits all" approach in the past has been that the aircraft in question can't fulfill the very specific roles required of it. The F-111 is our case in point. When you consider that the JSF is aimed at the following aircraft: A-10, F-16,F/A-18A-D, F-111, GR9/AV-8B Harriers, GR3 Jaguars, and maybe some of the older types of Tornado, it's got some big shoes to fill and in two cases (A-10 and F-111) would be impractical to do so. I think it'd make a great Viper/Hornet replacement but to replace all of these aircraft will make it a "Jack of all trades, master of none." Here's a link to some critical analysis with an Australian point of view (sorry, I tried looking for some more general links but all I found were links to bitching and backbiting with the standard "JSF sucks!" "No you suck for not liking JSF!" and the rest of that crap) http://www.ausairpower.net/jsf.html -

There's nothing fake about it at all. It's the 2.0 Beta of the F/A-37 Talon from the stealth film. From what I hear, he's still working on it but, like most things, real life stuff is gets in the way from time to time. Both JSF and F-22 are works in progress and won't be out for a while. If you want to have a looksee at what is in the process of being developed. Southernap's been kind enough to tackle a regularly updated W.I.P. list which you can find here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=16806 Bear in mind that the lists are quite large and that the most up to date list will be at the bottom of the page. Just read the message from Southernap once you click the link and it should sort you out. -

It would be a good get! It would have been the first aircraft to carry 8 medium range aams (even before the phantom!) plus, carry them internally. On paper it it was gold. Mach 2 capable, 55000ft ceiling, big weapons load... all in the early 1950's. -

SayethWhaaaa replied to Atreides's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I still get screwed everytime the pair of Mig-29OVTs who i thought were running, decide to get involved... Damn I hate that plane!! :black eye: If I engage, I get a heat seeker in my freckle, if I bolt... sometimes I make it home... sometimes... Still, I'm good at moving mud! -
Awwww... What? You take that back! :threaten: You're kinda right about it though, if it was more like GTA3 without the idiotic radio programs and childish dialouge, I'd find it more fun. Personally, I'd like to see a zombie survival mod as I think it'd be a great engine for it. But you know, different strokes for different folks. Vietcong would fit the bill nicely^^ You're the new Sgt just arriving at a US Army Special Forces/Montagnard (Thượng) outpost near the cambodian border. You do a lot of stalking through the bush, CSAR, patrolling and so on. AI's reasonably smart. There's a co-op mode for just about all of the ingame maps, it's just so very different from the linear WW2 games out there. First time I played it with a buddy, bloody VC had us so effectively pinned down in some marshlands, we couldn't move for about 90 minutes lest we get whacked hard. Once we learned to creep around (and unlearn all that run and gun crap), it became a really atmospheric (but edgy!) experience. Totally worth getting! Only problem was that everything that made the first one so good was removed from the sequel, thus ensuring Vietcong 2 a dog of a game. Avoid VC2 like the plague or Rosie O'Donell!

If the market wasn't dominated by F-16, it'd be dominated by this. You gotta love the sweeds, they know how how to make great planes! Except that boxy volvo one... but I think they were just having an off day then -
Does this qualify for a speed record flying backwards?
SayethWhaaaa posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
So i had this idea for modding a gun that, if it worked, would look as though one long and continuous burst was coming from the gun (giving the effect of somekind of bent laser)... ...instead, all I got was whiplash! (Note: Look at the airspeed indicator ) (best way to see the effect is if you save the photos and use the slideshow button in picture viewer) Somehow I was able to get it under control but I brushed the trigger again: Just to be a smart arse, I wanted to see what would happen if I pointed the nose down and fired... I levelled out somewhere around the 26000m (I guess its around 80600ft) mark. And what did I learn from this? My zero button sticks... here's the gundata entry if anyone wants to see what happens. *WARNING* Has a bit of a kick [GunDataXXX] TypeName=ZZ20MM_M61A1 FullName=Tester Caliber=20.000000 ROF=500000.000000 MuzzleVel=1000000.000000 AmmoWt=0.101000 WarheadWt=0.010100 Reliability=100.000000 Accuracy=100.000000 AddLight=TRUE MaxLightRange=1000.000000 FireColor=0.500000,0.450000,0.320000 GunFireEffect=20mmFireEffect GunFireSound=Vulcan EffectClassName=20mmEffects EffectTime=0.100000 TracerTexture=Tracer.tga TracerSize=1.000000 TracerDistFactor=0.002000 TracerLength=3.000000 MaxVisibleDist=4000.000000 MaxStreakVisibleDist=1000.000000 TimeFuzed=FALSE -

No kidding... my ctd's every time, at least with the F-4EJ so far... -
I'm guessing you're not a fan of Grand Thef Auto...? San Andreas was a ball for me. So much to do! Even though it's not an RPG. Again with the sci fi theme, but X3 is supposed to be quite indepth, freeroaming, freelancing as well as empire building with an RPG feel. Eve online is similar although I think the crux to Eve is mining. You'll spend a hell of a lot of time doing it and it'll prolly kill your interest in the end. I have to say, I've been getting back into Zero Hour recently thanks in large to a mod I've been making with a friend. The vanilla version bored me, especially with how a Scud launcher couldn't hurl a scud more than a screen away. We've got scuds raining down from the other side of the map now...

I hear Galactic Civilisations is supposed to be excellent. I hear you can design your starships from scratch, making them sleek and deadly, or in my case, butt ugly and looking like I've flown it into a tree, BUT STILL BADASS!! Lexx, that game looks suspiciously like Space Empires... Hmmm...

Does this qualify for a speed record flying backwards?
SayethWhaaaa replied to SayethWhaaaa's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Originally, I tried giving the gatt about 60000 rounds of ammo, but it would CTD when I tried to select the aircraft. I expect 5000-9000 rounds (or somewhere near that figure) should be possible as I've got some gunpods working with about 3k or thereabouts. To change the ammo quota, go into your aircraft data.ini (I used the F-4EJ in this instance) // Internal Guns --------------------------------------------------------- [internalGun] SystemType=FIXED_GUN GunTypeName=ZZ20MM_M61A1 <<-----Edit this for the gun type InputName=FIRE_PRIMARY_GUN MuzzlePosition=0.0,10.20,-1.15 LightPosition=0.0,10.30,-1.15 AimAngles=0.0,-2.0,0.0 MaxAmmo=6390 <<--------------Edit this for ammount of ammo EjectShells=TRUE MinExtentPosition= MaxExtentPosition= One big problem I've noticed is that flying at excessive speeds causes your aircraft to burn then explode. Again, there should be a way to alter this in the aircraft data.ini, but I'll have to have a look to see what I can find. I remember altering the F/A-37 to help it fly just a bit faster, although I could only accellerate it to about Mach 1.5 (even though it could cruise at about Mach3.1!) -

There's a spot in GE where you can change the length of the tracer, I think. I'm a bit shagged now, but I'll have a looksee tomorrow. When I was playing around with the idea of turning a Hunter into a dedicated tank hunter, I remember doing the same for one of it's cannon to give the impression of a larger caliber round. Same principle should apply here. We tried something similar on a Descent Freespace mod to give the fighters miniture beam weapons (as opposed to the pulse/rapid fire ones). It looked good if you moved in a straight line and fired, but if you turned or tracked a target, you could see the individual pulses. Still, it'd be good to see if it could be done. -

Yeah, I'm, the same. That's probably why I suck at it multi It does require a bit of investment, but it's a great pay off! I was completely stoked when I was finally able to launch a Royal Australian Navy ex-IRIAF Tomcat off of a RAN Forrestal Class carrier to go bomb the hell out of Brisbane with some Kiwis flying top cover! How many sims let you do that with bugger-all knowledge of modding?? -

It's sorta possible to make a laser with existing weapons. Using weapon editor I'm guessing you'd have to up the muzzle velocity of the weapon to an insane rate of fire and make sure that each round fired is a tracer, only drawback I could see is you'd have to have a huge ammount of ammo. I'm gonna put this to the test in a sec. I mean it won't be an exact laser, there'll be an arc, but in close quarters it should have the same effect... -
That croc hunter one is HILARIOUS!!

Just curious about something but having now had my grubbies on a copy of WoE for a short while, I decided that I wanna see what all the Mig-27 fuss was about so I modded it to fly, flew in in WoE. Blew up a bunch of stuff, tanks, buildings, my own airbase, etc; basically has some good clean family fun with it. But I've noticed it can't be ported to the other games in the series. Is this due to a lack of .LOD's in the Mig's folder?? Is there anyway to rectify this? I mean, I know I could prolly just port everthing I've got in SFG and WoV into WoE (or do a merged install) but I'm curious nonetheless... -

The 23 was designed to be an air superiority fighter/light strike fighter/Interceptor. It proved not to be completely superior to the 21 but wasn't too shabby in its own right (it was proven to be superior to early model F-16As in quite a few ways, not just acceleration and climb-rate). The 23BN and the 27 were designed from the outset to be strike fghter/CAS aircraft with a modified, slightly more advanced engine and avionics (although lacking a radar), armoured cockpit, modifications for rough field operations (debris doors on the air intake, strenghthened landing gear etc), plus the Russian equivalent of the GAU-8A, the GSh-6-30. The GSh allegedly can shred an aircraft with the briefest of bursts and fires a 390g (13¾ oz) projectile... It's a pretty mean bastard... -
I used to get a lot of elderly, angry customers baying for my blood at my old job. I've gotta admit... I've always been curious to see what would happen if...

This is the developer's site for the switchblade Beta 2.0 http://www.zur-tech.com/ Just remember not to fly it with the burners on for too long, or you'll overheat and explode!
