Early days with Mission Builder...
Britisheh replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hi there, Good luck with the Mission. One of my favorite was constructing the Tondern Mission with HMS Furious Air Craft Carrier take off. When I looked at your aircraft, it didn't seem to be at an aerodrome? This does make it easier to start from. Also one of the issues with building missions is that it is built in that the elevations are skewed high, and those can be manually corrected by going into the settings as shown above. I still see the Missions over at CA. You can download them ant then edit them to see how they are laid out. Cheers, Britisheh -
Hi there Olham, Looks great! Enjoy. I'm off to Ft Laird, somewhere very fare North in BC, with very large bugs, and hungry Grizzly bears. Cheers, Britisheh

How much of the front must one squadron patrol?
Britisheh replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hi there, Good stuff Pips. Bletchley and I did extensive research into this as we wanted some parameters that may be what we considered more realistic for what we percideved OFF as, and of course, we don't have the operational constraints the DEV"S do :) So, from my failing memory I can tell you that it was certainly based on who you flew for, Allied or Axis, when, what aircraft, etc. The Allied side always ventured farther than the Axis, save when the high altitude German observeration craft came out late 1927? If you're flying for the English, then the Scouts were told to go about 10 miles over the lines, and a patrol would last about 1.25 hours, with a range along the Front of some 30 miles or so. The Two Seaters went in about 50 miles, 1 1/2 hours across the lines, then back. Later when the SE 5's came along, they had a longer endurance and so the Camel's did the 10 mile across, and they went 20 miles across. The Germans went into No Mans Land to escort a Two Seater there, then left, while the high altitude reconn were left on their own. The Allies couldn't get up high enough to bother them. On an Offensive the Germans did cross No Mans Land and farther, especially to take out an Observation Balloon. These were generally stationed at 3 miles behing the Front, and 5 miles behind the Front. Many times the Germans, especially in the DR.I didn't take a full fuel load, so as to have a lighter craft, that would offer more manoeuvrabilty than the English, who had a full load on to ensure they could get back against the prevailing wind. Cheers, Britisheh -
Hi there fellow OFF enthusiasts, I too am a bit our of sorts as I have ventured over to the SIM HQ, but like this setup better, as Olham has so pointed out. Guess I'll check this one to read/see the good stuff, and the other for the formal stuff. Oh, by the way, is WOFF really supposed to be out in a couple of weeks? I have a personal message, but when I click on it, the error message tells me I am unauthorized to see it. Any ideas? Cheers, Britisheh

Hey guys, What's up? Is there a new site we should be at? Cheers, Britisheh -
Hi there OVS, Good to see you return, I have just done the same. Thanks in the past for your assistance with a few odds and sods! Take care mate. Cheers, Britisheh

Hi there OFF enthusiasts, Great to see that the olde and dependable sorts are still here....... I've finally finished my training, April 1, then a stint in the far North, and now some semblance of life shall return again. I have a new vid card, a Nvidia 560 OEM overclocked, which I am waiting to try as I have to load everything on the PC again. Obviously it must include the new DM by Herr PW, and Lother's newest offering. New bunch of MODS too, will have to watch the spelling....... Cheers, Britisheh

It was the right thing to do. If I may quote from "Churchill", as I have seen him referenced on another blog. Good show!. Peace. Britisheh

Hi there, Hmm, if only I could get my 13 yo son off the xbox and into OFF, we could have an online battle. Cheers, Britisheh

Video Camera mounted on Fokker Dr.1 Wing
Britisheh replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks there Olham! I do hope that they have the time and inclination to revamp the Dr.I to the flying characteristics that are well dsescribed, especially by the Swed Mikael Carlson who personally sent me a note about how the craft flies. No big wing over spins, It sinks till ~~ 38 mph, then drops a R wing. Easy recovery. Cheers, Britisheh -
Everyone still in Christmas Coma here?
Britisheh replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hi there coma types, To get out of such, don't look at the Christmas bills, make sure all the decorations are put away. Forget about buying more eggnog, you'll just want to put Rum in it. Don't diet, but do make a lifestyle and eating habit change. Try HITS, what????? High Intensity Interval Training. My wife got me into it. She lost 15 lbs and > 4 inches off her waistline, and her legs look like a twenty year old models! You do your warm up, typically stretch a bit, then 10 minutes med intensity whatever you are doing for cardio. Lets say it's biking. For your 11th minute you'll do 30 seconds flat out fast, and increase the resistance, then, a 15 second break of rest ( minor pedalling) then on again for 30 seconds, etc. It will almost KILL you, so perhaps start with 3 x 30 second intervals, then a 5 minute cool down and then stretch. This is scientific stuff, giving you a 36 % more efficient cardio workout, and a 28 % increase in muscle building and stamina compared to a regular w/o on a bike, or whatever cardio you do. It's that simple. I am up to 7 cycles of 30 second w/o's. My wife kills me, she does 12! OK, she is 10 years younger, at least that's my excuse.....Oh, don't forget the Vitamin D pills for additional well being... you're welcome Britisheh -
In need of a 'Spin Doctor"....
Britisheh replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hi there Old Nay, If you want a good spin, try the Dr.I The OFF DEV TEAM and I disagree on the flight characteristics or they just haven't got around to sorting it out ( too many things to do), so for some reason this ac is only perhaps second to the infamous Sopwith Camel eith regards to a spin, in the OFF setting. It has a particular liking for entering a spin on any high angle movement, almost regardless of speed, and then degrading into an inverted spin. Hopefully you are flying later than Sept and have the realistic opportunity for using a parachute. The only way I have rarely recovered from this is by applyijng full throtte, and opposite rudder. Mostly though it's a case of getting dizzy, and then having a so called "dirt nap"........ Cheers, Britisheh -
Welcome lad, A pint of Courage bitter would be nice thanks. Cheers, Britisheh

Reminder for realistic Campaignflying in P3
Britisheh replied to Creaghorn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hi there, So, IMHO this is one of the key features to making P4 the most realistic sim. To date it has been a super way to fly in WWI. I have spent hundreds of hours, with Bletchley doing countless hours too, researching how to make the sim align along what we have researched through a variety of resources. I will post in the near future, the SIA data so that if you wish to tweak, you can use certain criteria and apply it ( Workshop choices, Mission choices, etc) and make it real. This may take a step towards what Creaghorn is refering to. Realistically the German Scouts only went over no mans land and no deeper than 5 miles across, when they were escorting a two seater, or trying to bag a balloon. Many times especially later in the War, they were found 20 miles behind the lines, as the British continued to take the fight to the Germans, and not the other way round, save for the odd German offensive. Keeping the AI scouts on their side will be a huge challenge, and not having them chase you to your base 20 miles across the Front. Cheers, Britisheh -
Not so easy to land - The Fokker Dr.1 Triplane
Britisheh replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hi there, Olham is quite right with regards to the Dr.I and stability on landing. The main reason for the wing tip spars was on takeoff, as Olhams mention of the rotary gave it a propensity to do a ground loop. The most significant issue on landing was the inherent lack of directional stability as due to the large body and wing surface, it provided literally no ability for the pilot to steer the plane once landed. A crosswind was even more treacherous for the Dr.I They did have a throttle, and not just a blip, but this didn't help too much. I believe the secret ( not so much) to landing the Dr.I is to bleed off speed by using a side slip, and when touching down, be at ~~ < 55 mph. Part of that pilots problem was his high landing speed. Look in the Over Flanders Fields Sub Forums for SIA - Flying and Air Fighting Pilot Primers http://combatace.com/topic/60942-sia-flying-and-air-fighting-pilot-primers/ Cheers, Britisheh -
Opps, late, just too much work....................HAPPY BIRTHDAY M8. Just be glad you're only 50. I saw on the news that the Queen has been on the Throne for 60 years. Must have a bad bladder or something............. Cheers, Britisheh

* * PHASE 4 PREVIEW MOVIE 1 ! * *
Britisheh replied to Polovski's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hmm, well, after reading the previous 8 pages I guess I'll just have to take a look at this vid, and see what all the fuss is about! What with being absent, went for a flight the other day, first time in ~~ 11 months. Apparently it isn't like riding a bicycle, or if it is, I fell off, crashing on landing, and it looked like it was easy peasy from the pilot seat? Cheers, Britisheh -

Greetings to all. I still see a number of familiar names, great. I have been in a flight medic upgrade training program since March, and am 99% done now, so it's time to get back to what I enjoy, and now have time for. Did I miss P4? Cheers, British_eh
