I have heard of the blue shield in which police forces circle the wagons to protect their own and deal with their problems internally, but the news media knows how to circle the wagons to protect their own with no such noble ambitions of resolving their own internal issues. It is my opinion that it is, however, the 'commercial' press and advertising dollars keep the worst of their kind afloat. It is only when those dollars depart to other outlets that any type of cleanup action takes place. In this case, drastic. We consumers contribute to prop some of these crap-dealers up by purchasing their rag or looking at their offerings. Probably unfair to those staff journalists who are attempting to adhere to some sort of journalistic ethics (whatever they are), but when the captain drives the ship on the rocks, everybody drowns. It is a touchy business, ripe with corruption, mindless in pursuit of the headline, unresponsive to valid criticism, and doomed to perpetually eating their young. It is often said by journalists that the 'the pen is mightier than the sword', but they consistantly leave off the second part of that quote that says, 'but it takes much less courage to wield'. Other than that, they're a great bunch of people.........

Vietnam Planning Maps
Jug posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Somehow, in the midst of adding on stuff, I have managed to blow away my planning maps for SF2 Vietnam. Can I just replace those planning maps with some of those available here as add-ons? Anybody got some good links for the lazy Jug. For that matter, can I add SF1 terrains, maps, or airfields to the SF2 series?? -

Vietnam Planning Maps
Jug replied to Jug's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Stick, A friend in need is a friend indeed. Thanks. -
I'm probably behind everyone else, but I just downloaded the Third Wire flavor of the catpak.exe from their site and, boy, is it nice to work with. Not much different from what we have been working with, but sweet. Thanks, TK.

Captain Tommy Zorn - F-105G Pilot on 17 September of 1971 flying his second tour in "Thuds". Classmate of mine at Auburn. I served as the Cadet Wing Vice-Commander when he was the Cadet Wing Commander. Never met a finer man. RIP Captain Al Henderson - U-2R on some distant and unknown place at some unknown time. Al was a linebacker at Oklahoma and he and I used to butt heads playing flag football with our student flights. He was a good man, father, and patriot. RIP There are more, but these weigh heavy on my heart this year. God bless all of those who serve. Some gave some, and some gave all. Doesn't get any better.

Very Very Sad News

Rest in peace in the loving arms of our Lord, Oli. -
LouG, Thanks for your service. Good "war stories" and great pics. Look like a lineman to me. I'm old O Line myself (Auburn 65-69) and I always thought it was good training for the military. Best to you and your family. Jug

All good things must come to an end
Jug replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Veltro2K, Where do you live? I'll send you one of my computers. Can't have you out of the loop here!! Send me a PM. Maybe our CA staff can help out with an address. Jug -
OK, Jug's been participating sporadically for a while now and I am wondering if the A-Team Bucaneer project has arrived at the finish line yet. I see skins for the Buc for SF2 and lots of email, but the Combat Ace search engine does not take me to a completed jet. I will assume that the project is still on-going. Any news??

Bucaneer, Bucaneer, where art thou, Bucaneer
Jug replied to Jug's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
OK, here's where I prove that I am out of touch. Where is the A-Team site? -
Been out of touch for a while, but I'm back and looking for the Buc. Is that sweetheart out and running yet?

Jug says let the UN decide. If they cannot get off of the dime, our national interests do not mandate that we go it alone in any sort of intervention. Besides, as I understand it, there is no Carrier Battle Group in the Med at this time, so how, exactly would we do anything? I am not sure that we have the leadership in place to do anything anyway. We could drop Hillary on them, but that's another story. Let's all keep in mind that our respective countries operate on a self-serving basis. Since the US appears not care to have, keep, or preserve the spoils of wars we get into, what's in it for us? Of course, any other country in the world that had taken Iraq by military might would have been just as fair, too. Right? I think someone said it quite eloquently that a civil war is an internal thing, so let the Lybians sort it out themselves. Is anyone really surprised that Gaddaffi would shoot his own people? It is a despot thing and goes on quite regularly round the globe. As repugnant as it is, I seem to recall China butchering its own people in some sort of big square in Beijing not too long ago. Where was the 'create a no-fly zone' arguments then? Methinks it is too much ado about nothing....................

To my trusty fellow flight sim addicts, I'm back from an assignment and glad to see what the membership has done to the sight (that's a good thing). Good to see advertisements too, because others are just now recognizing how neat this site really is. Hope to see all are well and our universe is still stable. God bless you all. Jug

Beautiful! Well Done! -
I got a suggestion, don't skype. It is amazing to find that life goes on without.

It is the same in the military as elsewhere, you get what you pay for. My best wishes to you wife for a speedy recovery.

Two things occur to me when looking back on the start of the nuclear age and the cold war it spawned. 1) Politicians don't like being first in line to be killed and, therefore, are very careful in their overseas adventurism as long as the other side has a nuc arsenal down which barrel they are forced to look. 2) A weapon needs to be used every once in a while to indicate a technological capacity to create it and the political will to use it. Tehran beware! Time has only moderately mellowed me.....................
