Was sind denn "echte Fakten"? Es gibt nur Fakten. Die zeigen, dass die Politik, die mit "Tag der Offenen Tür" noch sehr wohlwollend umschrieben wäre, scheitert. Von Beginn an zum Scheitern verurteilt war. Ist ja nicht so, dass nicht auch die Grünen (naja, zumindest Boris Palmer) inzwischen vereinzelt Anfälle von Realismus zeigen.

Subkulturen reißen sich immer so lange am Riemen, bis eine gewisse kritische Masse erreicht ist und man sich stark genug fühlt um aufzumucken. Deswegen pöbeln Halbstarke gerne in Gruppen aber niemals alleine. Der Menschenschlag der für so etwas empfänglich ist, ist eben recht simpel - egal mit welchem Teint oder welchem kulturellen Hintergrund. Das ist bei den Rechtsextremisten nicht anders. Islamismus ist an sich auch nichts als Rechtsextremismus mit anderer Farbe.

The result is a committee-airplane that can do a bit of everything, but excells nowhere and nobody gets an airplane that fits their needs entirely. But it was cheap (sort of). Yay! France would have the industrial oomph (but not the ca$h) to build their own airplane. Dassault has always built great 80/20 aircraft. Germany, however, doesn't - our aerospace companies have been merged into oblivion and are nowadays basicly Airbus Defence and Space and rely on other branches of AD&S.

Why? What is their business in the whole affair? They just want some warm water to base their rusting shipping-hulls in. Putin doesn't give a rat's ass about Assad or Syria. The bottom-line is: Saudi-Arabia and Iran are in a d*ckfight over which son of their favourite imaginary friend's earthly's representative was the true heir to their imaginary friend's ideology 500 years ago. Don't undestand that sentence? Me neither, but it's a big deal to them. Let them fight it out among themselves and pull out. That counts for both "the West" and "Russia". Kind of like the Chinese are doing - stealing from the save behind the bartender, while the rest is engaged in a brawl over who's playing loaded dice.

Ich denke nicht, dass Gepard oder irendwer sonst pauschal gegen Ausländer und/ oder Flüchtlinge ist - das sind die Wenigsten - er (wie die Meisten) ist nur gegen jene, die nicht flüchteten, sondern Armutseinwanderer sind und hier teils als Klein- oder Großkrimminelle ganz groß Karriere machen. Da verrennt sich der Pauschalisierungsvergleich ein bisschen. Ansonsten: Nazi? Habe bisher noch nicht - nichtmal in der TAZ - von irgendwelchen rauchenden Gaskammern gelesen. Vielleicht kann man ja auch eine Größe kleiner bedienen... Wer war es denn, der die Pegidademonstrationen von Anfang an als Abklingbecken für Braunhemdträger verrissen hat? Wer hat denn das Märchen von den dringend benötigten "Fachkräften" (Ärzte und Ingenieure aus Syrien) in die Welt gesetzt? Wer hat denn vor Jahren erzählt, dass die Ängste vor der EU-Osterweiterung nur diffus und unreflektiert sind? Also in der Gegend in der ich wohne bekommt man regelmäßig Besuch von Bereicherungsbanden aus dem Osten. Vermutlich muss ja wirklich erstmal deine Wohnung verwüstet/ dein Auto geklaut werden (okay, wenn nicht vorher schon angezündet, wie in Berlin gute Tradition) bevor da eine tiefere Reflektion einsetzt. Die BR und die vermeintlichen "Teddybärenwerfer" müssen sich nunmal fragen lassen, wie man feststellen will, ob jemand geflüchtet ist (bzw. asylberechtigt ist), wenn man dessen Identität bestenfalls raten kann, da die passenden Ausweisdokumente verschwunden sind. Aber über solche Fragen wird ja gerne mit dem humanistischen Imperativ hinweggebügelt. Mein Leben nicht einschränken? Naja, wenn zum Beispiel meine Steuern zweckentfremdet werden, damit ein nordafrikanischer Intensivtäter nach Jahren an Hickhack endlich abgeschoben werden kann, dann fühle ich mich schon eingeschränkt. Ist ja nicht so, dass man das Geld nicht sinnvoller hätte investieren können: Infrastruktur, Bildungsreformen, etc müssen sich dann eben hinten anstellen, wa?

Mensch Nyghtfall, man muss nicht immer mit dem N-Wort kommen, um jemanden mit gegenteiliger Meinung Paroli bieten zu wollen. Sicherlich gibts im Osten einige Gegenden, in denen der Genpool nicht mehr allzu famos aussieht, aber das ist auch ein hausgemachtes Problem - noch immer ist die Region stark vom wirtschaftlichen Zusammenbruch durch die Wendejahre und den weitläufigen Ausverkauf ostdeutscher Spitzentechnologie gelähmt. Leute, die es zu was bringen möchten flohen und ziehen noch weiterhin weg in die großen Städte. Die "Soße", die sich dort tummelt sieht sich in einer ähnlichen selbstverliebten Opferrolle wie die Bauchweggürtelträger. Leider hauen die sich selten gegenseitig auf die Fresse, sondern suchen sich meist Ziele aus, die sich nicht wehren können. Schade. Zurück zum Thema: Ich weiß nicht wo du wohnst, aber ich muss sagen, dass sich die Bunte Hauptstadt in ihrem öffentlichen Bild in den letzten zwei Jahren deutlich zu ihrem Nachteil entwickelt hat. Geprägt ist das tägliche Bild oft von "Zuwanderern", die hier eigentlich nicht am gesellschaftlichen Leben teilnehmen wollen, sondern vor allem zu Handaufhalten hier sind. Inzwischen merken ja auch schon einige Sozialromantiker, dass die Mär von der Zuwanderung nicht so recht aufgeht, wenn man eine große Zahl von kriminellen, chronisch untervögelten Halbstarken importiert. Und komm bitte nicht mit dem Argument "Zuwanderung", "Multikulti" oder ähnlichen Plakaten der inzwischen (glücklicherweise) in der Versenkung verschwundenen Grünen. Ich war letztes Jahr in Toronto (immerhin die Stadt mit dem weltweit zweitgrößten Ethnien-Durchmischungsgrad) und weiß wie eine ansatzweise multikulturelle, funktionierende Gesellschaft aussieht: Vornehmlich gibt es keine allzu großen Ausreißer bei einer Einwanderungsgruppe, sondern eine ordentliche Verteilung an Ethnien, Geschlecht und Altersgruppen. Also genau das Gegenteil dessen, was die Regierung Merkel gerade veranstaltet. Eine ordentliche, geregelte und vor allem dem Staatsinteresse angepasste Zuwanderung sieht anders aus - auch hier darf man gerne über den Teich gucken. Was die Ausbutergesellschaft angeht: Da bin ich ganz bei dir. Was Deutschland gerade seinen Akademikern und Fachkräften (und dazu zähle ich nicht zuletzt die wirklichen "Mangelberufe" wie Pflegepersonal) zumutet, ist unter aller Sau. Zum Glück kann man dieses Jahr mal wieder sein Kreuzchen machen - meins wird sich garntiert bei keiner Bundestagspartei finden. PS: Parteigründung - ein gerne vorgebrachtes Nullargument. So ähnlich wie "wer nicht wählt hat Demokratie nicht verstanden". Ich denke du hast verfolgt, wie sich die AfD von einer Professorenpartei zu einer losen Ansammlung von Knallfröschen entwickelt hat. Ähnliches konnte man auch bei den Piraten oder dem Zwist der Linken auf Bundesebene beobachten. So einfach ist es leider nicht mit der fröhlichen Parteigründung. Aber du kannst dich gerne persönlich davon überzeugen. Nach meiner letzten Gremientäigkeit sage ich dankend ab. PPS: Dient hier eigentlich noch jemand aktiv? Wenn ja: Mein Beileid! Da der MAD ja inzwischen zum Möchtegern-Reichssicherheitsdienst der Flintenuschi verkommt, frage ich mich eh, wer unter diesen Voraussetzungen überhaupt noch Statsbürger in Uniform werden möchte. Ich gieße mir derweil noch ein kaltes Yuengling ein und gebe mir selbst eine Hi-Five darauf, dass ich mich bei diesem Trachtenverein nicht länger verpflichtet habe als der anständige Patriotismus von mir verlangte. #Putsch

I'll be at KSC on saturday when the next launch is scheduled. Hopefully they don't scrub or postpone it - I'm trying to fiddle in a visit to the Valiant Air Comand museum in TIX as well. I've seen a night launch from KSC last november - was a GOES satellite on a Delta (?) and it looked brilliant. You could see it up 'till MECO. The sound wasn't too breathtaking, standing in front of the Atlantis-center, though. Gotta try and get a good bit closer to the launch-complex this time. JM did you go up north to see the launch? I was in FLL on june 3rd, but the weather was crappy and I couldn't see or hear anything.

Es wird ein spannender Sommer: Dem Schulzzug fehlt der nötige Druck auf dem Kessel und die Weiche zum richtigen Gleis klemmt irgendwie; die FDP ersteht wie eine Riege Zombis aus der Unterwelt auf (wusste gar nicht, dass es plötzlich so viele Hoteleigentümer gibt) und die CDU wechselt schneller ihre prinzipielle Meinung (Flüchtlinge? Ja, nein, vielleicht; Innere Sicherheit? Ja, nein, vielleicht, Energieversorgung, Wehrpflicht doch wieder einführen?) als der Wind im Wirbelsturm die Richtung. Die Grünen hingegen haben sich irgendwie auf ihrer Hanfplantage verlaufen und die Linken wissen nicht so recht, ob sie Fr. Wagenknecht nun als Gallionfigur oder als schwarzes Schaf behandeln sollen. Da wird man wohl viele Stunden am Wahl-o-Mat verbringen müssen...

Again, Concorde was profitable for BA. In fact, the profits of the Concorde-fleet were hugely over-proportional. They all come in with whizz-bang announcements and the PR quickly dies-off after that. The easiest way of "staying quiet" and not booming anybody is staying below Mach 1.2 at high altitude (so the shock-wave won't reach the ground) - unfortunately, that makes you stay in an area with incresaed transonic drag. There are some interesting studies about shock-wave shaping (mainly by cutting the bow-shock into several more, weaker shocks), but other than tech-demonstartors, there haven't been any implementations yet. Hopefully one day...

The funny thing is there were plans of converting B-70s into a civillian airliner. The passengers were supposed to be seated in the space aft of the cockpit - depending on the projected pax-capacity, the neck/ crown of the fuselage would have been lengthened and thickened. Overall, the airplane was not feasible, as there would have something about 20 pax-seats max. Talk about energy-inefficiency: Hauling about 20 people at Mach 3... Mach 3 is a shitty velocity to be at: It's pretty hot on the skin and you're just at a point where ram-jets make sense. The temperatures warrant the use of steel (heavy) or titanium (expensive, a dog to machine and most of it is buried in ole commieland), driving the costs up in a spiral. If you look at the design of the Blackbird-family with all it's special little gimmicks (heat-sinks, "flexible" fuel- and hydraulic lines, leaking JP-7 fuel on the ground, having to refuel just after take-off to keep the load on the tyres manageable, etc.) you'll see why Mach 3 only sounds great on paper, unless there's a lot more brainpower (and money) thrown at the issues. Pour on the coal a little more and you're in hypersonic- and scramjet territory. The engineering-challenges scale about exponentially with velocity. This is one of the reasons why Concorde was limited to about Mach 2.05 operationally: The skin-temperature was still barely manageable with aluminium. In fact, if you run the numbers, the max operational skin-temperature is 127°C or 400K. The airplane would easily go faster than that... Concorde was an awesome airplane. I always argue that in many ways, it was Britain and France's equivalent to the Apollo-Programme. It's a shame they never built the "Concorde B", which was to start at line-number #017 (they only built 16 operational airframes) and was to feature leading-edge flaps for better aerodnamic performance at subsonic-speeds*, non-afterburning Olympus engines (uprated about 25%) and roughly an additional 500NM max payload range due to an increased fuel-volume. Given the fact, that some of the lighter, later Concore airframes were already close to Concorde B's payload-range capabilities, this figure might actually be closer to 800NM-1000NM over the intial airframes. This would have opened lots of more transatlantic connections and (more importantly!) many transpacific routes. The list of reasons why Concorde wasn't to be is long and hard to single-out. What eventually killed the airplanes in service were multible things: - The crash of 2000 cost lots of modification-money for the re-issuance of the airworthiness certificates (lots of money invested) - Air France wasn't really making any money with Concorde (British Airways was!) - Airbus wasn't really enthusiastic about having to support a subfleet of 15 highly special airplanes - 9/11 killed a lot of customers** and caused an economic downturn - the invention of broadband internet made long-range telephone conferences possible, slightly cutting into the need of being *there* in person on a short notice - all the airframes were nearing an age where more thorough checks were coming on the horizon, making AF (again: BA didn't feel pressed to retire Concorde!) reconsider it's need for a supersonic flagship - Airbus and Air France signalled their reluctance of supporting Concorde in the future, which would have meant that BA care for those aircraft themselves - consequently BA had to bail out, too for financial reasons ___ * On a typical LHR-JFK sector, Concorde would burn about 25% of it's trip-fuel (TINS!) during the subsonic sector from London Heathrow to the acceleration-point at Land's End! ** Not just customers per se: Higher management would know about the benefits of supersonic air-travel and agree on mid-level management travel on Concorde.

Cunningham was a good, very determined pilot with a very eager attitude. All that made him a great fighter-pilot (though one might argue that he was over-zealous and his carelessness caused his SAM-hit). What some people have reported about him, though, also makes it pretty clear that he also was full of crap. His whole "Col. Tomb/ Toon" story was completely made-up.

I also don't buy Leonov's conspiracy-story. Gagarin (or his instructor) most probably just fudged-up. It has happened to others, too. No national shame there. The Viggen vs Flagon story is plausible. Intercepts have gone south before. So have low-level ad-hoc dogfights over western Germany or any other "gloves off" training-environment. Again, no need for conspiracy theories - accidents happen.
