Never got a chance to see this in the theaters
eraser_tr replied to serverandenforcer's topic in The Pub
I didn't bother to see it after seeing the trailer. I loved the games and I knew they'd screw the movie up badly. And to think, the game was written and played as if it was already an action movie, all they had to do was follow the game's story and cut down the shootouts every second to the plot points so a 10 hour game becomes a 2 hour movie. But no! they had to screw around with it. Made DMX Jim Bravura, they changed the music (the sequel's violin theme would have been perfect to use) and threw in supernatural s**t with those winged things. The game had no such thing. Maybe if Walhberg had played the game, he would've realized the screenplay was a screwup and his name would be big enough to make them fix it. They should have just had Sam Lake make the screenplay instead of the hollywood people. They always screw up game to movie conversions. 1. They almost always pick the wrong games to make into movies (doom, resident evil, tomb raider, hitman, halo) and never games that have worthwhile stories. Max Payne was one, Deus Ex also cries for a movie, as does Mechwarrior or Bioshock. Maybe Fallout, FEAR or the STALKER games. Fallout they could probably do well, Liam Neeson and a few other big names did some voice acting so maybe they would reprise their roles in film. 2. They screw around with stories that were better than alot of hollywood stuff. 3. They usually get s**tty actors and directors. I absolutely DREAD the making of a Half-Life movie and letting someone like Michael Bay, (or worse, someone who makes Bay look good) screw it up and tarnish Half-Life to the greater public, unless Gabe Newell and Marc Laidlaw were wholly involved as producers and had creative control. Only then would I feel comfortable. -
Hey ndicki! It'll be nice to see some more old friends from the CFS3 days here. I was around MAW for a while myself, but left when fairly simultaneously 1. Stopped kidding myself that I had the time for a constant commitment to an ongoing project 2. Luca got really ****ing mad at me because of my snail pace with a beta model 3. just couldn't use gmax anymore now that I had 3ds and 4. got really sucked into strike fighters. Actually, you can sortof model in gmax and transfer the model to 3ds to export. And as far as some more advanced mapping goes, who knows? The engine already does specular, reflective and glossiness effects, it may not be a terribly big deal or expensive undertaking to modulate the existing effects via a texture map. Perhaps the AI in SF2 can handle 1% flight models properly?

Yankee Air Pirate 2 - Ready
eraser_tr replied to swambast's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Really? how noticable a difference? Is there any download of YAP2? Or is everything going to be CDs? I have a profound hatred of waiting for mail, as there's no guarantee I'll ever get anything.....yes the postal service is really that bad here. -
F-100 vs MiG-17 strategy
eraser_tr replied to KingLear's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The trick I've found with any fighter against a mig, keep your energy high no matter what. I couldn't kill ***t with an F-100 or 104 without a lucky missile hit before I learned to stay over 350kts all the time. -
Registered for downloads when I first got SFP1 and WOV but never paid attention to the forums until the mass exodus from simHQ when it became the complete and total center for TW games. Unfortunately, I've been stuck with this riffraff ever since

Well, it is and isn't. CFS3 did certain effects better, namely effects mapping (specular, reflective) where you could have the same model have vastly different levels based on textures defining specular and reflective properties. Weather was alot better. Water was way behind, unless someone has managed better shader effects since I last checked CFS forums. With CA_starry SF's terrain is much nicer, and there's more than just a europe map. If they've already got a nice P-51 FM, then I guess alot of our prop issues are likely solved. Maybe we'll see some more hi-def WW2 and earlier planes.

'Stiglr is an ass' Excellent news! Their MS series flight models were fantastic. If they can make an excel workbook like they did for MS, flight model creation would be a hell of alot easier with all the calculations done. Just enter mostly readily available information and export!

http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/01/15/new.york....rash/index.html An airbus went down in the hudson river just before. It appears everyone got out ok It suffered a direct hit from two G-00se missiles, causing both engines to fail. Amazing that the pilot was able to conduct an emergency landing. Ferrys and other boats got to it immediately to rescue passengers.

What to do when in a rip? Interesting Story, read here
eraser_tr replied to scouserlad13's topic in The Pub
You are all extremely lucky. You should never try to swim against a rip tide, thats how people drown in them, they tire themselves out trying to swim directly to shore. You swim 90 degrees from the direction the current is going to get out of it, but let it take you in the direction its going, never swim against it. -
They are ALL LOLcats. It's just a matter of capturing it on camera.

WOV - Target Object Placement Interface Tool WIP

Since it reads ini stuff...shouldn't it work with targets from any game and version anyway? -
For the record, only the original trilogy counts as star wars. Except for Natalie Portman....yum (and I'm sure racindriver1 will think shes trash like all the other celebs we drool over here) Never quite got what the appeal was of Dr. Who.....apparently I'm the only one who thinks Daleks are quite possibly the most comically non-threatening alien race ever. It's a fricken oversized garbage can, just tip the damn thing over and it won't be EXTERMINATE!!!ing anything.

Star Wars: Gritty and realistic. Laser guns, space battles, lightsaber fights. Princess Leia chained up in a metal bikini. Star Trek: Shiney and sterile. Tv remotes as lasers, middle aged dough bellied white guys sitting around talking technobabble. Or as whiteknight's sig says "The cast of the OC on a bridge designed by fraggle rock" for the newer iterations The winner is obvious!

DS Mod Goodies
eraser_tr replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
He followed the directions implicitly given to him by the quality of this mod : 1. Open mouth 2. Insert foot 3. Swallow (African not european, monty python reference is irresistable) 4. Choke to death There's no point in planes without a campaign to use them in! -

Democracy is a lamb and two wolves voting on what's for dinner. Liberty is a well armed lamb contesting the vote. - I think it was Ben Franklin

I'd definitely go with a G36K for short/mid range. Preferably with a reflex sight. More powerful round than an smg, shotguns work well, but have too few shots IMO, same with revolvers. A barret sniper rifle or minigun would be good for tearing down zombies, but too heavy to keep mobile, mobility is key surviving a zombie apocalypse. Any variant of desert eagle would do for a sidearm, or another semiauto .44 or .45. I'd be more worried about taking a zombie horde seriously, than the actual surviving....too many times watching shaun of the dead and games Now I want to go buy left4dead but I don't have anyone to play coop with (my usual buddy's computer is dead and never has time) so I've been saving my money. Has there been any world about what happened to Niel Manke doing a They Hunger in source? I saw a short article about there being one that was a full blown game, or was Left4Dead the end product?

We are all a bunch of sycophants!
eraser_tr replied to WarlordATF's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
So uh...if the code doesn't support what is needed for an F-15, please explain wings over europe. A developer made F-15A was created and included, and if you even knew the sim beyond your own misconceptions, you'd have known the capabilities for it were programmed in with it. Very few things are actually missing at all anymore. Basically aesthetic things that TK would rather not spend time or money on, or small gameplay things that don't really make a huge difference. And why don't you quit with the fanboi stuff? Appreciating hard work mostly done by a single person and continual support is far from unreasonable/fanboism. He deserves alot more respect than you give him, that's for sure. There are decisions he makes things in the game that I don't like or agree with, and I have voiced them, as have many others. The difference is, we are civil about it. -
