  1. The problem is you have no awareness of the missile going active. You can have all the bloom chaff you could carry, it probably won't help you much. Modern RWRs would know when an active homing radar is coming at it the minute the missile goes terminal. Granted, you won't get much warning, but you would know. It's just the idiosyncrasies of this title. You work around it if you can.
  2. Then I'm changing everything to SAHMs or simply removing the AHMs because that's just killing the game. According to my research, AHMs might not give a warning on launch, but the minute their own radar seeker goes active, you would know. You know what view I miss from old sims? Jane's USAF and IAF used to have a very handy player-to-incoming-weapon view that could help you evade a missile.
  3. Everything's starting up except for one problem. No Blue Air assets are showing up. Anyone know a trick to this?
  4. Appears to be. So strange, because I can't find where it went wrong between versions.
  5. Found the problem. I was coding it to use the DESERT4 terrain. Once I tried DESERT3, everything worked like a charm.
  6. Think I got it now. At least it's spawning something. Still working on it.

  8. I've tried using the Marcfighters Su-27 and the Su-33 mod for it, but all I get is the little guy with his butt hanging out of the lower part of the fuselage. Is there one around I don't know about or in the works? And, is there a Russian naval AEW aircraft available?

  10. There are quite a few things on here that if the modders would get together and agree to a profit-sharing system, they would easily be worth paying for. I'm thinking of things like NF5, OpDarius, ODS, etc. Each one of those is a title unto itself. I know no one wants to go to a paid subscription site, but the fact of the matter is that may be the only way to keep it going. And you could do so on tiered basis. You pay a smaller amount, you get X number of MB of download rights, you pay for a higher tier, you get more. You could make it month to month, no contracts. Free membership still gets full access to forums, etc. But anyone hosting stuff here would do so with the understanding that this is a business, they're not going to do this for free.

  12. This actually helps answer a question I had. I wanted to make one of those "all in one" installs for the Black Sea. Guess I probably shouldn't.
  13. SF2 AI can handle gun combat all day long. It is ideally suited for it. It's ideally suited for all eras of warfare, IMO. It can do more than most other sims out there, which is why I play it. I just intentionally made the missiles a little less effective. Even the modern ones. During the Ethiopian-Eritrean War, something like two dozen AA-10 missiles were fired in combat...for no hits.
  14. I am inclined to agree with streakeagle and I would go so far as to say that the advanced missiles available in third-party weapons packs are essentially push-button killing machines. I've actually 'nerfed' a lot of the A2A missiles and SAMs in the installs I have in order to let the AI have a fighting chance at surviving. As it stands, the SF2 AI is not well-equipped to deal with 'silver bullets' like the AMRAAM. So I've intentionally made them a little less effective. If A2A missiles and SAMs were as lethal as the publications say they are, you'd be able to destroy every plane ever made twice over.
  15. I tried something today just for fun. I copied a bunch of the more advanced weapons from the stock TW weapons set. AIM-9Ls, -7Ms, etc. I simply changed the skins from American Sparrows and Sidewinders to Russian Alamos and Archers. Know what happened? The game became fun again. The missiles can be dodged by the AI now. No more push-button kills. It actually works pretty good.
  16. I would prefer new features to new content....or at least fixing what's broke. The modders do a better job with content and I will stand by my official review of SF2:NA. The Mirage Factory F-14 was better -still is better- than Third Wire's. I don't mind paying for good content. Did it all the time with MSFS.

  18. I must "dial back" the effectiveness of the missiles in SF2, the AI cannot handle "silver bullets" at all.

  20. Mine is. It behaves EXACTLY as streak and Ceasar said it should. Doesn't matter. This series is still my go-to over DCS World, even with the idiosyncrasies.

This has been very beneficial, but it only underscores the infinite judgement of the United States Air Force when it looked at me and said, "consider a college degree instead." Yeah, I've got the mechanics down. I was proud I was even able to get the proper threat indicator on the RWR.

Changelog for Archipelago v1.0b - China & North Korea removed as enemy combatants - India, Indian Navy, and Malaysia added as enemy combatants - TargetArea names changed to reflect new enemy combatants - Date range expanded to 1975 - 4 New SAM sites (which is probably three more SAM sites than what the Indian military would invested in an island chain this small) The Indians and Malaysians replaced the Chinese and North Korean militaries because India had naval aviation in the 60s and 70s and China didn't and the geography made more sense.
