  1. What should we use to extract that old TW A-6 pit?
  2. Arming the Syrian Rebels

I am steadfastly against getting involved militarily anywhere. They don't deserve our kids dying for them.
  3. Yeah, still want those. Those routes are already in my terrain.
  4. After a long hiatus, PFunkWorks Studios will be introducing a new terrain for users of the Strike Fighters 2 series, "Archipelago". One of the most difficult things in making a terrain is proper scaling and placement, "Archipelago" will be the first in a series of fictional terrains meant to mimic real-world combat. This concept has two origins: 1. Multiplayer titles like Battlefield 3 often contain maps that are generic portrayals of a location, and the combat is the focus. They have names like "Metro" and "Operation: Firestorm". While they have roots in real-world warfare, they are the kind of situations that can be found widely. This terrain will be using that concept. This island chain could be found in any tropical region, but it has its roots in Malaysia and Indonesia. 2. The maker of the Third Wire series has already made a fictional terrain, so the precedent has been set. It is also a fairly popular terrain. Think of this new series of terrains as your own, private wargame. The militaries of the West have long had a tradition of wargaming with fictional adversaries to imitate real-world conditions. This is an extension of that. Each terrain will have a certain era of combat or a certain sort of warfare in mind. "Archipelago" was designed for the early jet combat era, you will not find a single SAM site entry. This terrain was built around colonial warfare, with Eastern powers attempting to foment unrest among the colonies of the European powers and will attempt to mimic the response of their militaries. Later terrains will be built around traditional Cold-War-turning-hot scenarios, wars of decolonization, and early efforts against terrorist states. With that, enjoy some early screenshots of this new location for combat in the Strike Fighters 2 series, "Archipelago". More... I know the Skyhawks never served in the Royal Netherlands Naval Air Service, but they just looks absolutely stunning in their livery.
  5. Once it's released into the wild, if people want to mess with it, cool. This is another concept I have, Free To Mod. You don't have to ask permission, just give me a heads up by email what you're doing.
  6. Yes, Kevin. Using the VietnamSEA tileset, the stock one.
  7. You guessed it. The central island is Sri Lanka, off to the left is Sicily. The island at the top left is part of the Indian subcontinent that got shrunken down a little. Top right is....I can't remember where that is. The middle right is the Greek peninsula and the western Turkish coast. The bottom left? No idea. You use the Terrain Editor to export Height Maps as bitmaps. Pick a few random places. I just used Photoshop Elements to cut and paste islands, color in seas and coastlines, saved it. When you fire up the Terrain Editor to import your edited Height Map back in (and this is important), there's a specific trick you have to do to get it work. You create the new terrain, import DEMs to make a new map, and THEN import the Height Map back in. I learned that the hard way. You, sir, are a mensch.
  8. Here's the planning map. Still tweaking it. Oh, and there are four friendly carrier stations and four enemy ones. There is one rough friendly field, two hardened ones, one of which is an Australian air force base. There are four enemy bases, all hardened, that may change in the near future, have not decided yet.
  9. Stock. If someone wants to mod it for GH3, by all means, go to it.
  10. Why would a water map cause carriers to spawn on dry land?
  11. My process. 1. Use TW Extractor to get a stock water map. 2. Paint the entire thing red. 3. Use Gerwin's tool to give me a water map for my terrain. 4. Resize the water map that came from the TFD tool to 512x512. 5. Select the black land mass from the the TFD tool water map and copy it. 6. Paste it on the stock water map painted completely red. 7. Color my carrier zones. 8. Save. 9. Rename the map to match the entries of my new terrain. 10. Take off from a freakin' carrier. Messy, but it worked with two scratch-built terrains, the old Black Sea 2 terrain and this other, unnamed project. Kev, thanks for the help.
  12. Just Want to Remind Everyone...

    Awesome.
  13. Really odd. Just checked stock terrains and the one I've been working on, Mine are okay.
  14. That, gentlemen, is the quintessential point defense interceptor. The aviation equivalent of a Triumph TR6. Small, quick, nimble in traffic.
  15. HOLY CRAP... You will not believe the hoops I had to jump through to make it work. Now I just need our downloads section to come back online so I can upload it and get people playing around with it.
  16. Still doesn't work. Sucks. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. It's like it just doesn't like the image. Places the carrier at 325000, 325000 no matter what I do to the map.
  17. Kevin, tell me exactly how to format and save the water map in Photoshop. I've narrowed it down to the image being the problem. I have used Gerwin's TFD tool to give me a water map. What's next?
  18. Okay, found the TFD tool (wow, that's cool...) but it's like the engine completely ignores the existence of my Water Map, even if I make it NavalMap=TRUE. This is frickin' frustrating. Everything else works great. I can edit a stock Water Map until the cows come home. Can't get this one to work for nothin'.
  19. Did a quick search, found the tool on his site. Looks like it's old, I'll give it a shot after church.
  20. Thanks anyway, Kevin. No such luck. It's custom map, so having to use a planning map as I don't have Gerwin's tool any longer. Oh, well.
