Are you talking about WWII in HD on Netflix?

Thinking about it now, I don't think I had a cannon or might have gotten the second 23.

Now, I was one of those guys that doubted if the HARMs actually worked in SF2. Well, one day I decided to do a recon in an Aardvark setup with 4 HARMs. I was messing with the keyboard trying to adjust the radar settings and was hitting the wrong key. I let off 3 HARMs in 123 before I realized what I was doing. I was 66 miles out of wpt4 and was going to turn around or replay the mission. But, I decided to continue and see how long it would take until the missiles exploded. I was doing the F9 thing to check them out periodically. They were flying in formation and climbing into the stratosphere. I could see their contrails from the plane. They must have gone up to more than FL600. So, now I'm like 12 miles out of wpt4 and still checking on them when I noticed them diving (still in formation). Well surely they wouldn't have run out of fuel at the exact same time, right? Well, I guess some dumbass must have turned on the radar and all three locked on to him because I watched in amazement as all three HARMs approached the ground, and then I saw it. One lonely radar installation was totally oblivious to what was going to happen. BAM BAM BAM! Wow. That was interesting. I guess they do work. With the one I had left, I took out another radar just 15 miles away. After that, we should've gone home but, I noticed we were being painted by two 23s and we had two Sidewinders and a cannon. We were supersonic when we merged so I decided to play. I wish I hadn't. I got one with a Sidewinder but, the other one got our six when I was too slow. Now we are sitting in a cell having dinner. Tell my wife to give my steak to the dog. I have to settle for this burger. They actually make a great burger. Now, I know what happened to that C-130 shipment of 92% lean ground beef. Tell our wives we'll see them in a few years. Be careful up there! Sincerely, Lt Col Robert Lee Wicker, Jr (Robot)

Strike Fighters 2 Complete Edition until July 19th 2020
rlwicker1967 replied to MigBuster's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters Series News
One more thing on this topic. If the game is limited to 4GB because of 32-bit, I still think there would be an advantage to having more ram because when other things are going on in the system, it shouldn't steal memory from the that which is allocated to the game. I remember having to make sure my browser didn't have a bunch of tabs open to get good framerates when I only had 4 GB. Now, I have 16 GB and I can have 10 browser tabs open and even my DAW loaded and I get amazing framerates still. That being said, using that one dude's cloud enhancement slowed me down quite a bit. In FSX-SE, I can have full clouds and almost full traffic and I get my minimum 26 FPS. I try to stick to no more than 30 FPS because I thought humans could only process 24 as they said in the film industry. To me, 60-120 FPS is overkill unless we're talking about having room for overhead when things get really intense. -
Is Rearming, Repairing, Refueling possible?
rlwicker1967 replied to DarudeSandstorm's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Now, it would really be cool if the entire flight could re-arm and re-fuel. It would also be cool if you could do it at the forward airbases. -

My decision has been made. 2nd Lt. Coe has been reassigned to flying rubber dog poop to Hong Kong. What an idiot! How can he be the only Phantom driver to not use any weapons on a fighter sweep? He SUCKS! He's flown as my wing several times and I've directed him to attack incoming aggressors only to have him call out Bingo Fuel. Unbelievable! What's the deal with calling bingo with 12270 pounds of internal fuel just 172 miles from waypoint 8?

Is a Windows 10 version really needed?
rlwicker1967 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I just bought Strike Fighters 2 Europe last week. I'm shocked how much better it looks and runs versus my old WOV 1 Series. The only issues so far are the dark cockpit and not having a working radar for a set of Tomcats I downloaded. The aircraft textures look really creamy and kind of reminds me of 3DFX Voodoo graphics. For me at least, it looks like those CGI cartoons. I'm seeing an average framerate in the mid-40s with a 1GB Radeon card and an i5 processor. I'm looking forward to getting the complete package. If anyone knows, what would we gain by having a Windows 10 version? -
A Lesson Learned
rlwicker1967 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Well, because I'm getting more into this sim, I'm learning some lessons about flying missions. One lesson I learned was, never to warp into the action zone because they will ALL be waiting for you and you have no strategy to avoid any enemy aircraft. You need to approach like normal so you can take out those enemy flights. Otherwise, you will drop into a hornet's nest. -
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 pre-order
rlwicker1967 replied to MigBuster's topic in General Flight Sim News
There is no way I'm going to spend this kind of money if there's no 737, 757, 767, or 777. Maybe if I can be assured that all of the aircraft lights are in their proper positions on the models, I'd think about it. Now, if they had the airport like in 'The Langoliers', I'd definitely have to go for it. 🤣- 15 replies

Well damn, I'm not gonna be able to take advantage because I won't have the funds before the deadline. Maybe there will be another time. In the meantime, I will have fun with SF2 Europe and learn how to go against better AI. -
Is a Windows 10 version really needed?
rlwicker1967 replied to rlwicker1967's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I can Alt-Tab in pause, go into Windows then, come back with no graphics corruption like in the first series. I also like how the sound goes away in pause. -

Believe it or not, I picked this system out of a dumpster. I was driving for Super Shuttle and when they closed the local office, someone dumped this system in the dumpster. I asked the office manager if the system was working and he said they had stripped it. I could tell he was lying! I went back and snagged it. I was only wanting the case but, it was fully loaded with HDD and everything. I bought an SSD for it and bought Windows 10 Professional to install. I compose music on it with Studio One DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). You guys think these flight sims demand a lot from a computer, they aren't anything compared to processing digital audio in realtime. -

I'd have to disagree. My system is not even close to that and it runs smoothly on higher settings. I'm not trying to argue. I think I am just lucky to have a system without problems. -
Strike Fighters 2 Complete Edition until July 19th 2020
rlwicker1967 replied to MigBuster's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters Series News
Well, this is what I got with everything turned up to maximum or unlimited. There started to be a little choppiness, but it was definitely playable. On Task Switch, memory usage showed only 556 MB. Chrome uses more than that with 5 tabs open. It's not even touching the memory. Now, I will not play with Unlimited unless there's a need to. Just a note: In the F-4E without fuel tanks, there is a nice speed barrier at Mach 0.96. That can be maintained with 50% throttle on the deck. Anything more is just wasting fuel. I guess I'm going to try to put fuel on HARD but, I bet I'll have to make sure I go slow so the wingmen can catch up or they'll be going Bingo halfway to the target. -

Man, I didn't even realize SF2 was only 32bit. It runs so smoothly on my Windows 10 i5 with 16GB and 1GB Video card. I have everything on High at least. I'm not getting 60fps but, I am getting 45-50. I'm gonna set things to UNLIMITED and see what happens. I'll check back later. -

Strike Fighters 2 Complete Edition until July 19th 2020
rlwicker1967 replied to MigBuster's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters Series News
I agree! Everything seems to be better. Last night I took a Phantom E up to Mach 2.03 over the SWUS terrain and actually had an OCE (Out of Cockpit Experience). I'm definitely going for the Complete Package. The dogfighting is absolutely more realistic. It feels so good to be blown up because you just got outflown and not because your jet can't maintain energy in a 5 g turn. I like the way AI Wingmen behave too. I still have to work on the dark cockpit issue though. -

Strike Fighters 2 Complete Edition until July 19th 2020
rlwicker1967 replied to MigBuster's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters Series News
Great! I just purchased SF2 Europe yesterday and I love it. It runs smooth as silk on Win 10. The only thing I have a problem with is the cockpit lighting. I'm going to have to download some practice terrains so I can become efficient at flying some of the newer aircraft. The F-100 flies much better than the one in WOV and the Mach indicator actually works! -
Strike Fighters 2: Windows 10 Edition up for pre-order
rlwicker1967 replied to MigBuster's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters Series News
Well, I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on SF2 for Windows 7 and see if I can get it to run on Windows 10. I hope it works because I love WOV so much. I was contemplating getting the SF2 WOV but, I think it's time I get more modern. Please stop me if it's a bad idea. I am a veteran flight simmer starting back in 1982, and I love Microsoft Flight Simulator. I have 1424 actual hours flying in RL. MS Combat Flight Simulator is one of my favorites.- 183 replies

WOV Flight Models
rlwicker1967 replied to rlwicker1967's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, I finally got WOV 1 to run correctly with the Oct2008 update. It runs very smoothly using Windows 7 Compatibility mode. But, damn, I lost 3 wingmen on a mission to take out a warehouse. I think they got stupid. LOL! It really sucks being in a VF squadron coming off the boat and having to take out a single warehouse! Let somebody else do that crap! Ha Ha! I guess it's time to get the add-ons now, I'm ready...to have fun! Thank you all for the tips and info about the flight models. I can't get to Mach 2 still but, with info from MigBuster, I have more of an understanding of what to expect from these birds. I actually did get to Mach 1.6 at FL400 in the F-4B and, there seems to be a nice brick wall at Mach 1.2 down on the deck. Once again, THANK YOU all and I will see you in other threads, perhaps. Regards, Robert "Qwick" Wicker Ps: I'm still patiently waiting for SF2 for Windows 10. -
WOV Flight Models
rlwicker1967 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hello All, I currently have the first WOV. My problem is, I can't get the fighters up to prototypical speeds. Just the other day, I was returning to base with the F-8E carrying 1 sidewinder. I took her up to FL370 and tried to go supersonic. I was able to go supersonic but nowhere near the prototypical performance as we've read in all of the accounts from the pilots. Acceleration was abysmal! I'm talking like 1 kt/sec in full AB from 345 KIAS with 4000 pounds of fuel in Hard Flight Model mode. I have the same speed issue with the Phantoms too. From all of the accounts I've read, the Phantom had an abundance of power and was able to separate from the enemy with ease in full AB. I have had problems with the F-4J not going supersonic in a dive, even without drop tanks. I can go supersonic but, nowhere near Mach 2. It's more like Mach 1.2 max and that's after over a minute in full AB. The F-100? Forget it! I haven't even seen the Mach numbers show up in the indicator, EVER. Now, I've messed with the DATA ini files before and could get the prototypical top speeds but, then I would get super-cruise. I once had a version of the Tomcat which I tinkered with to get the correct performance but, I'd rather not mess with anything. Has anyone else had this problem? The reason why I ask is, I'm thinking of purchasing SF2 Vietnam and the others and I don't want to spend a couple of hundred bucks if I'm going to have the same issues. I chatted with someone that had a Youtube video of SF2 flying the Phantom and I told of my difficulties getting up to speed in the Crusader. He said that it didn't seem right. Any help would be appreciated. Ps: I have downloaded DCS and it doesn't work for me. I'm not going to go through all of that and have to buy a new video card with 3 GB when I have a 1 GB card that runs WOV smooth as silk. I just want to fly the dang plane. I got really deep into Falcon 3.0 back in the day and at almost 53 years old, I don't have that patience anymore. By the time I get done with all of the startup procedures, I'd have to go pee twice. HELP! Thank You!
