Hey Hood, I was thinking (that can be dangerous), is there any way to rig up an old washing machine to the tree? Throw in a couple bricks to create an off balance load and set it to spin cycle.

No problem, That's were I went to learn about these new-fangled, fancy "hard drives" and become less ignorant, in the traditional meaning of the word... .....Ignorance is curable, stupid is forever.

I feel at home, mud is flying...lol...hope I don't get stung or sting someone else. I can say that when I went to a ssd from a 7200 rpm wd black 1 TB, had 32GB of ram on W7 home premium which only utilized 16GB, have later switched to W7 pro which uses all 32GB. .....I experienced a HUGE decrease in microstutters in FSX on W7 hp. They were gone. I flew the same flight patterns with the same addons installed. Same sliders and tick boxes. The ssd wasn't cheap, about $150 from newegg for a 256GB Adata, which was a good buy. At the the time I was debating about a 10,000rpm WD raptor or a ssd. Ssd came on sale so I went that way. Since then I bought a 10,000 rpm wd raptor, 500GB, and put FSX and X-plane on it. Haven't played X-plane much, but have logged over 30 hours on FSX. It runs damm fine. However, I have upgraded my graphics card since then. I also put a video editing program on the WD and that is super fast too. I have no clue if superfetch is turned on, that is a logical drive after my main "C" ssd. Not sure if "C" can be off and "F" can be on, "D" is my dvd drive. "G" is a new 2TB wd 7200 black for backup, and storage. Yes, money is an issue when buying or building a system, and I agree with going with a "freebie" and trying it out. I'm sure superfetch was turned on before I went ssd and the difference was HUGE. I'm wondering if an expensive 10,000 rpm raptor is good enough not to notice the difference. They write faster, but read slower judged by data I've read and even the WD raptor selling video on newegg made by WD. Storage does make a difference! The WD raptor came with a 5yr, Adata a 2yr. Time will tell. Odds are I might have moved on to something new by then, who knows...my last rig was still running fine when I decided to upgrade and do my own thing instead of buying. I learned much and am thrilled with what I have. It beats the heck out of configuring a rig price wise from an online site.

Yeah, you need a data hard drive. Might want to google the motherboards and read reviews of users. How many usb slots come with the computer and how many you need would be what to consider about the usb expansion. It adds more usb slots -

Thanks Tamper! Had a hunch that was it, kinda remember reading it, but couldn't remember where.

HeyTamper, You have all the details correct. I also made sure my settings in FSX and X-Plane were identical, same for graphics card tweaking software. I actually had the info written down on paper. At that time I did not own OFF Hood, I've a suggestion which would not risk your pilot's life. Try some "free flights" in heavily dense scenery areas. My suggestion is creating a British pilot in the RNAS that has his squad based near London and do some low altitude sight seeing over the city. Another idea is to create identical dog fights in quick combat with as many planes as possible. The "pilot never dies" box can be ticked to preserve the longevity of the pilot for futher testing. Might want to set the weather manually to reduce variables. Anyone, Lothar mentioned in another thread that he believed the max setting for either scenery or terrain was 4, but wasn't sure which one. Anyone know for sure which it is?

No clue Olham, but I can read your reply in this thread. Hey Olham, On the main page of Combat Ace, there is only one section listed, general forum, and the topic is OFF forums temporarily closed for maintenance.

yeah, that's what has me concerned...

I'll second what Shiloh said.

I'm new to OFF and this site and I'm confused as to what the future of this site is. Didn't know anything about the dual site squabble. SimHQ is ok, but they don't have squatt for a D/L library. Hope this place stays open. I noticed the page background graphics changed

Thanks Tamper, I was running windows 7 home premium when I first installed my ssd. I did a fresh install using my windows 7 home premium disk.. I have no clue if superfetch was running. At the time I was playing x-plane 9.7 and FSX with lots of addons. There was 32 GB of ram on windows 7 hp which only used 16GB, or at least listed 16gb as usable. After getting the ssd up and running, which was pretty dang easy, I fired up FSX. Now I always had "microstutters" in certain heavy addon scenery areas when flying into them. I repeated one of my favorite flights and they where gone. Same thing for X-plane. Now since then I've scrapped windows 7 home premium and did a fresh install of windows 7 pro, which uses all 32 GB. Today I'm do to recieve a 10,000 rpm wd velociraptor. If you have any experiement ideas for it let me know. I was intending to put FSX and X-plane 9.7 on it. There is also a 2 TB wd black 7200 coming. A various times I've had hdds installed in addition to the ssd. Been repairing some desktop computers for family members lately, mostly dust damage, and put all but one to use in their machines. My case has a hdd swap dock and I kept one 7200rpm 500GB sata 3 for a backup. Now I can put that in another machine. and this cpu cooler... http://www.zalman.com/global/product/Product_Read.php?Idx=416

Hey Tamper, Did you change anything with your pagefile and what is your opinion of doing so when using ssd(s)? I find the whole topic a little confusing. Never thought of superfetch before, mine is set to manual

Had a Lone Wolf mission and loaded up the Pup with rockets. I don't see them often, but I spied a moving train. Put a few bursts into the Locomotive and actually saw the steam leaking out of the boiler and heard the engine slow. As the steam escaped it's speed slowed, and it approached a bridge. Rocket time....blew the bridge with the train on it. Good fun ! Any ships in OFF HitR ?
-
Congrats! You're on a roll. Maybe they'll come back with a score to settle, so watch out!
-
Just curious, loved sinking ships in IL2. When I play as a British pilot for the RNAS, the lone wolf missions have a map that takes me over the channel. I flew part of it a few times, over range for fuel, and didn't see a darn thing. Since then I've been train hunting on lone wolf missions.
-
Thanks Andy, I searched some with the "radar" on to ships in a free flight with unlimited fuel. nNver saw any ships. Stayed on the coast from Calais to way, way north. Was going to visit that most north german airbase, but grew tired of the flight. Do any german squads take a tranfer or leave up there? Can;t be much going on there. Wish we had a sea plane too, no biggie.

nVidia Beta driver release 320.18
MudWasp48 replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks Andy! I have the af and AA the same. Not sure about the rest. Much of this is confusing to me. I don't know what some of these tweaks do, but I've been learning by trial and error and google searches. Greatly appreciate your input. Been running on all 5's with a heavy overclock on "Asus GPU Tweak". Only time I ran into slow down was over the mud with a HUGE dogfight. I paused the game, resumed and it was fine. Don't see much difference in 5 scenery unless I'm on the ground. Took a bicycle out for a spin near London and saw a difference....Detail one can't see unless on the ground or very, very low flying and sight seeing. Lately I went to all 5's except for terrain and scenery at 4 and unlocked the V-sync. The fps were in the 70's on takeoff with 10 planes on the field. Much of the flight had fps in the 90's, 60's in 6x8 df. Lothar, I tried the D3DPool thing and noticed no difference so I went back to default. Andy, your translation worked great! I'll try out your config settings. -
Yeah, I am. Can't comment on before and after with OFF as I hadn't found OFF then. I can comment on X-plane and FSX. Large reduction in load times, didn't notice any fps increase, but the both ran smoother and certain scenery areas that had given me micro stutters no longer did so.

I was poking around in the CFSWWI OFF folder and I found a sub folder labeled ships

Yeah Lothar, windows 8 isn't for me either. Those "charms" and hidden hotspots for them had me cursing.I can see where it may be great for a fancy phone or tablet devise, just not my pick for a PC. I'd still go with more wattage for the future, cause you never know how long ZZ will use the machine and what additional hardware he may want and what wattage that hardware will require. ZZ, which motherboard are you going with? -

MudWasp48 replied to zoomzoom's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
ZZ, if you decided on windows 7, take note of the version. They have different usable max ram limits. For 64 bit they are; 7 home basic 8GB 7 home premium 16GG 7 pro 192 GB 7 ultimate 192 GB All 32 bit windows 7 has a max of 4GB, except for starter which is 2 GB. I'd go with the 650 watt NZXT for $12 more than the Corsair 430 watt.
