Just looping back and see your post 33L. I feel like I've kept a decent pulse on flight sims, but have never heard of that one! Checking some reviews it looks like it got panned. But you're quick blurb here on it really intrigues me. How is the campaign? Where can I find this potentially lost gem? Probably should have quoted you. Here it is.

I'm with you on this one Dave. I think it's that folks don't actually own "the game" with steam. If Steams servers suddenly went down and the company closed its doors, there's a lot of concern that the games may be lost. At least that's my understanding. I personally use steam quite often and enjoy how accessible it makes my games. Plus, I reallllllly like the prices.

Shoot, I pulled it up on my phone and I think it looks pretty cool. It does seem a little...cheap maybe. You're right, there's something there that keeps me from falling for it. Personally, I think it's the whole "last survivor dying race" thing. I like being part of the team. Does that make sense? I like games that make me feel like I'm just a small part of a big mechanism. I don't always love being the "hero". That said, I did really REALLY like the Mass Effect series. And for this one, depending on it's entry price point, I think I'm interested enough to check it out.

My work filter unfortunately blocked the link. I'll check it out when I get home. What's it called?

Oooo that's good news. I loved the first one. Never had a chance to play the second. The opening mission or two of the first one is one of my memorable gaming memories. The cut scene gives me chills! Unfortunately, I too will probably wait for a sale or price reduction.

Yes...there are a couple of mod packs for XWA. However they require the disks to install. But as I understand it, the creator (Darksaber) is working on some sort of patch that makes it GOG-compatible. XWA also has quite a few campaign mods if you start to explore around. There's a series of mission downloads from a couple different websites for all of the X Wing/TIE Fighter games (Xwing, TIE Fighter, XvT, XWA). http://rebelsquadrons.com/ http://tc.emperorshammer.org/battlecenter.php Also - the community at the Tie Corps (second group) is pretty legit. Cool stuff.

Comprehensive WW2 install
MrGoTime posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
SF2 Team, I've got that flight bug again and have reinstalled all of my SF2 games. I'm in the process of adding the many, many mods that enhance the flight experience. Traditionally, I've never used SF2 as a WW2 sim (I've always defaulted to the IL-2 1946 set with some modding to scratch that itch). However, I've seen quite a few planes and stuff in the DL section and am wondering the following - Do any of you have a comprehensive WW2 install you've set up? And if so, what are some of the key components? Are there any WW2 campaigns for the SF2 games? Any advice here is much appreciated. Thank you! -
Comprehensive WW2 install

Thanks for the explanation. I'll have to come up with some sort of semi-realistic rationale in my brain for why I've only got one wingmate in my bomber formation :-) Either way...it's impressive to me that SF2 is such a good engine that I can fly from the early 1900s all the way into the 90s and beyond in the same engine. Wrench - thanks for the help. -
Thanks 33L. Those both look like good solutions.

I never played rebellion. Is it pretty awesome? Wrench - sounds cool. You have any of those battles posted anywhere? I stayed up way too late last night playing the stock campaign of Alliance, as well as a couple of the Balance of Power missions. I like the semi-dynamic feel that the battles in XvT have.

Comprehensive WW2 install
MrGoTime replied to MrGoTime's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
And update just in case anyone is checking this. I was able to get the install up and running (campaigns and all). and it's great. I think I just had some corrupted downloads. But Capun's A-Team's all inclusive install includes a lot of good stuff. My only beef is that your bomber formations are small (but that may be an engine limitation). SF2 engine works well though and looks good. I love the idea what I could take my WW2 vet pilot when I'm done and transfer the file over and keep him flying into the Korean conflict and so on. -
Wrench - that's an impressive project. You still fly a lot of Star Wars stuff? I have the GOG versions now, and am pretty sure it has the T/D, MB, CRVs and stuff.

Comprehensive WW2 install
MrGoTime replied to MrGoTime's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
I guess I mainly just liked the idea of the campaigns that capun added, and don't have the know-how yet to put stuff like that together. Its very possible that I'll end up handcrafting my WW2 install. Did you just use mostly downloads from the combatace section, then? -
Comprehensive WW2 install
MrGoTime replied to MrGoTime's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
Shoot, I've had a heck of a time trying to get that install up and working. It's probably because I have a slower internet speed or something, but I'm getting CRC fail issues every time I try to unzip the files. I've tried both the small packages and the big one. I'm going to try WinRAR tonight after work and see that works a bit better...maybe just skip the failed files and try and replace them after the fact. Did you get one up and working? Is the SF2 engine pretty good for a WW2 install? -
You beat me to it! I thought I'd jump over here and announce it. Everyone's probably aware, but they already released the original X Wing and the original TIE Fighter. Now with XvT and XWA, theres TONS of space flight goodness. They've also released quite a few of the other Lucasarts titles with more to come on Thursday! Curious as to how Dark Forces has aged. I haven't played it since probably the 90s. I loved it as a kid...but does it still play well?

Comprehensive WW2 install

I think Capun released a campaign on his site as well? I'll double check. I would LOVE to get some medium and heavy bombing runs going on in the SF2 engine. -
Comprehensive WW2 install

As info, I was able to figure this out. From my perspective, a WW2 SF2 flyer has a few options. You could hand build one with the sources available here on combatace, or use capun's website to pick up an all inclusive package. -
And another questions (can I use escort carriers?)
MrGoTime posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
All, sorry for all the questions today. I just know this is the first weekend in a long time that I'll have an extended amount of free time, so I'm going to get in plenty of flight time! I'm currently in a USN campaign in the Korea War Mod. (KAW). My battle group has the USS Bataan as one of the smaller escort carriers in my task force. I have a strange affection for escort carriers and am wondering if there is any way I can add a squadron and play from an escort carrier? -

Outstanding. I picked a Marine squadron and am now flying strike missions off an escort carrier! That is awesome. THanks all for the help! -
Thanks to all the modders

All, This is just a quick thread to say thanks. I just re-installed all of my SF2 games and am downloading all the good mods. It's amazing to me that I can now use the same sim to basically cover a century of flight (give or take a couple decades between some of the conflicts). It is absolutely outstanding, and the community here is great. Anyways - thanks all for doing what you do to keep a great game alive and well. -

So...how would I go about starting a campaign with that carrier as my home base? -

"DiD Campaign Revival" - Some Questions - Please vote!
MrGoTime replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Be advised - My commitment is also somewhat marginal, as I am going on leave sometime during that window. I also could blame it on some sort of paperwork snafu or medical grounding or something. We'll get creative! -
Planning a much improved revival of Siggi's old "DiD Campaign"
MrGoTime replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I'm a brand new WOFF pilot (just got it in the last month, and haven't given it much time yet...been WW2-ing it up in IL-2)...but I am definitely in. I'm not 100% sure how it all works, but I'll review the rules thread and get squared away. Count me in! -
Let me know if it works for you. I just acquired WOFF and have never played. But OFFice sounds really cool. If it works, I'd love to give it a shot with WOFF.
