Top Gun Campaigns
MrGoTime replied to JSF_Aggie's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
I'm no help with this sort of stuff, but wanted to pop in and say how AWESOME this looks. This is what makes SF2 a permanent placeholder on my computer. Thanks for doing what you do! Looking good! -
I've been involved in peacekeeping ops in various areas and I've seen privatized guys used pretty frequently. From my lmited experience, I would agree with some of the other posters here that active full spectrum ops might not be the place for mercs. But for use in peacekeeping or other periphery backwater roles, I don't have any problems with it. Maybe camp security, MP type stuff. Gate guarding, ECP (entry control point), etc. My main concern is about the economics. Is it really cheaper for a government to hire out a "mercenary" company than it is to actually deploy troops? It might be honestly, but I have not seen the figures.

Armchair Aces is a definite must as well. When you get it all installed, you'll have all the planes and ground objects as well. It's awesome!!! http://combatace.com/topic/81715-rof-fe2-or-woff-and-a-question-or-2-about-fe2/ I added the above link from a recent entry that goes over some of the install procedures and recommended mods. Great stuff!!

ROF, FE2, or WOFF? (and a question or 2 about FE2)
MrGoTime posted a topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
So, I am getting more and more interested in WW1 aviation. I am very familiar with the Strike Figher series and am wondering if FE2 is the best next step towards pursuing WW1 aviation. A couple questions: 1.) Which of the available WW1 sims do you prefer and why? 2.) I am a little concerned that FE2 is still going to have the "map" feature available and have tower radio calls and radio calls and all that (which I don't think sound or feel very authentic to the early 1900s). Basically I am worried that it has all the same voice overs and tower communications/wing communications from the other SF games. Do they? Hopefully those questions make sense. Any help you all could offer would be greatly appreciated! -
ROF, FE2, or WOFF? (and a question or 2 about FE2)
MrGoTime replied to MrGoTime's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Not to revive a dying thread, but I just wanted to jump in and say thanks! I got something horribly wrong the first time I tried to put everything together and got an install that was broken. But last night I was able to get a good working install with updated atmosphere and the Armchair Aces campaigns. Outstanding! I've been flying the Vickers gunbus an absolutely loving it. Thanks everything for your input and help. For immersion I've been rocking FE2 modded, but when I am craving the full sensory aspect of sim flying, I fire of ROF. Great stuff. Thanks all. -
Bonus Discount system for customers
MrGoTime replied to MigBuster's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Probably a silly question, but will this apply to purchasing DCS products on Steam at all? -
I'm looking into picking this up...but it's almost $60!!!! Is anyone aware of whether or not it is ever on sale?

NAMESUS.lst is there a way to change names?

This might be a dumb question, but how does one pull it from the cat? -
What if the englargement pump is not actually Swedish made?

ROF, FE2, or WOFF? (and a question or 2 about FE2)
MrGoTime replied to MrGoTime's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Shores...thanks for the heads up about that campaign generator. I'll have to give it a shot. At this point I am still learning how to fly and find the enemy! But I am absolutely blown away by the sound and visuals of Rise of Flight. From my limited perspective, it seems to hit the nail on the head about the experience of flying during WW1...words don't describe it. It's way awesome. BUT...I installed FEG (the first one, gold) and a bunch of mods and was playing it and it looked ok. However, I also bought FE2 and started playing that. For me, it's hands down better than the first in performance and well worth the $25. I am loving both of them at the moment and switch back and forth. At least until I feel more comfortable with Rise of Flight. -
ROF, FE2, or WOFF? (and a question or 2 about FE2)
MrGoTime replied to MrGoTime's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Again, everyone - thanks for the help. Here's where I stand: I bought ROF Channel Edition and it's downloaded, I just have to wait to get back from work to play. The bad news is that I have to learn the control scheme and all that. I have FEG installed with mods, also waiting for me. I like that because I am already familiar with the SF layout and control scheme. I am seriously debating getting FE2 though, but am having a hard time justifying the cost just for performance update (though we'll see once I start playing if I am ok with FEG). I'll have to hold on WOFF, as I don't currently own it or CF3. I'm pretty amped about jumping in. The biggest challenge will be learning the airframes. Aviation has always been a hobby, but I've never spent much time readying, studying, or learning about WW1 aircraft designations. I love the "roleplay" aspect of career mode type aviation and think ROF and FE will hopefully help fill in the gaps. -
I Need A Project To Do
MrGoTime replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
...maybe some work on the Balkans WIP? Although I would want to 2nd the comanche helicopter...that'd be pretty dang cool... -
ROF, FE2, or WOFF? (and a question or 2 about FE2)
MrGoTime replied to MrGoTime's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Thanks all for the input. This is all very helpful! I thought I had a copy of First Eagles Gold, and sure enough, I have it in my DL section on Thirdwire. I must have bought it quite sometime ago and never really played it. Anyways, I am currently downloading it as we speak. I will definitely check out the Armchair Aces campaigns, as those seem to be the way to go. However, I want to make it look a little better...and there are quite a few different terrain files to pick from. Can anyone shed some light on which ones are the better ones to pick? Also, does FE2 add anything significantly better to FEG? -
ROF, FE2, or WOFF? (and a question or 2 about FE2)
MrGoTime replied to MrGoTime's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
I didn't know that about the hand commands! Does the figure actually make the signals? That'd be super cool. It does look like there are some great mods available (yours, in particular, look fantastic). I will have to check that out on payday, perhaps. I'm glad to hear that FE2 doesn't have the tower calls or radio calls, really glad actually. That, for me, would be an immersion killer. Are there any other key differences in how FE2 is handled (vs the other SF games)? -
Has Anyone done a Balkans Campaign?NATO
MrGoTime replied to usafphantom2's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
Are there plans to include Operation Allied Force (Allied Force is the NATO name, known as Noble Anvil to the US)? I figure that'd be a great setting for Strike Fighters! I'm pretty amped about this and would like to help. I've spent some time as a peacekeeper in the Kosovo region (is that going to be mapped as well?) I am no good with coding or any of that...but could certainly attempt to help with research and other less technical matters. -
changing names on pilot roster?
MrGoTime posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Can you change the pilot names on the roster in the single player campaigns in the strike fighters 2 series? If so, how? Thanks in advance for your help. -
RAZBAM models worth it?
MrGoTime posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
So, as far as I can tell, when you buy a Razbam model, you're essentially just buying an aircraft model to fly in your own SF2 install, correct? With so many free models available in the download section, are there any Razbam models worth looking into? I'd be totally down to buy one if it offered something unique and added to the game. -
RAZBAM models worth it?
MrGoTime replied to MrGoTime's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
All, thanks for the responses! I, too, am intrigued by that A-1E. Question - The gauges (particularly fuel) don't seem to work on the A-1 models I fly frequently in SF2-V. Does the cockpit "work" with Razbam's models? -
All - I've been playing the SF series for quite sometime now and absolutely love how simple the design is. While I enjoy aviation, I don't have a great computer set up, so it's nice to be able to jump right into "flying" with a simple joystick and keyboard combo (with mouselook!). SF makes that easy. What other flight sims (or flight sims-lite) would be recommended as a next step into flight simming? I am good with any era of flying, though modern flight interests me a bit more. I like dynamic (or semi dynamic) campaigns. What are you all flying?

SF series as gateway to other flight sims? What to fly next?
MrGoTime replied to MrGoTime's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Got Falcon Allied Force installed. It runs just fine (lol) on my system. I tried to fire up an instant action and boy, you're not kidding, I was lost. So...I printed out the entire 20938533 page manual at work today and will start "perusing" it and learn how to fly the viper. Has anyone tried the Skunkworks mod for Allied Force? Sidenote: I'd love to give A-10 some more love...but I just can't get it to look nice no matter how I tweak the settings. Also - Thanks for all the help/suggestions so far! This seems like a very knowledgeable bunch of flight sim enthusiasts! -
Thanks for sharing! It's easy to forget that events like that are still happening.

SF series as gateway to other flight sims? What to fly next?
MrGoTime replied to MrGoTime's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
For some reason I am having some issues getting DCS World to run correctly. By all means it should run just fine on my machine, but the SU-25T model just doesn't seem to load correctly. ...so, I am planning on giving it a shot this weekend. Although I am increasingly enticed by Falcon. I have the Falcon Allied Force disc lying around somewhere. How does it compare to Falcon BMS? -

MrGoTime replied to MrGoTime's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I I will have to give this a shot! But last I heard, you needed the original Falcon 4.0 in order for BMS to work? Is this accurate? Also, is the difficulty scalable? -

I actually think I got this figured out. I am currently downloading DCS World, DCS A-10C, and the Flaming Cliffs A-10A on steam now. As I understand it, I don't actually need to purchase the old LOMAC anymore...I can just snag the Flaming Cliffs modules I want through steam. Any other good sims worth taking a crack at?
