  1. "Emperor of Madeira" is out...

My Dear Friends, Nine months after my first book "Mercenary of the Seas" (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1448677254/sr=1-7/qid=1268483930/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1268483930&sr=1-7&seller= was out, I've finsihed at published the 554-page sequel "Emperor of Madeira", which you can find here: http://www.amazon.com/Emperor-Madeira-second-book-Mercenary/dp/1451529473/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1268474740&sr=8-1 This time the action will take us to the paradise island of Madeira. Mike Sanders and his band of mercenaries return to help the small island paradise of Madeira to gain its independence from the Portuguese Republic. Or are Sanders International actually playing into a plot by the C.I.A. that would see the European Union destroyed from within? Just a few words to thank "Combatace" for their support by letting me talk about my books here. Although I can't live yet on my books, it's a very passionate activity for me! For your information, Mercenary of the Seas has been sold up to almost 600 copies. I hope that Emperor of Madeira will have a better success! Until then, have a good one guys and... good hunting! Mario Paz

Man, I started writing this book nine months ago! It was submitted to the publisher a few days before that happened in Madeira! How could I know? Sorry if it hurt you in any way! The plot is excellent though! I'm selling one or two per day! Don't think that I'm getting rich though! I only get $ 1.38 USD per book sold! LOL! Hmmm... why not?!
  3. To the French

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll think about it! Why not? Do you have his adress?!
  5. "Emperor of Madeira" is out...

I know. My book is inspired on him. Besides, I'm actually Portuguese. But of course, the Madeirense rebels do get some "muscled" means and so do the mercs! Yeah! There is even action featuring the President of Brazil in my book!

  8. Mercenary of the Seas is out

My dear friends: Just a few quick words to let you know that a very dear project of mine has become reality. I have published a book. Here's the synopsis: "In 2007, the retired French aircraft carrier “Clemenceau” was purchased by a UK company, allegedly for scrap. Yet the true was other, as the Clemenceau was indeed bought by the Private Military Company “Sanders International” and christened “Privateer”. The Privateer was to become the first private aircraft carrier in the world. It underwent a major refit and through a series of “intermediates”, the ship was restored to “fighting status”. With the outgrowth of armed conflicts in the world proportional to the disengagement of the rich countries; the UN had no choice but to revise their 1989 UN Mercenary Convention, banning the use of mercenaries. In an unprecedented move that may have opened the door to the regular use of PMCs, the UN Security Council mandate Sanders International to intervene in Somalia; on the war against piracy. Yet getting there was already an adventure by itself and as the plot evolves, Mike Sanders will find himself trapped in a CIA plot to destroy the European Union." Some of the scenarios inside were "tested with TK's Wings Over Series" (mostly mixed WOV/WOE and SFP1 for the desert terrain). I personally think that like for the PC flight simulation games sector, there aren't many books coming out recently. Well, good or bad, here's my "stone" for that building. Up to you to judge... For the moment it is only available on the publisher's website. It will become available in the next months on websites such as http://www.amazon.com and on bookstores such as Barnes and Noble. It should hit the bookshelves in less than eight weeks from now. Here's the link to the publisher's website for this book: http://www.lulu.com/commerce/index.php?fBuyContent=6730388 It has lots of aircraft and fast paced action. I've really enjoyed writing it and that's why you haven't heard much from me during this last year. If you're considering buying a book, please consider this one. Thanks in advance and looking forward to hearing from you soon, Mario Paz

Hahhaha! Fera the mighty "Spanish Galactic Empire"! It's there! It is out on the newspapers this morning: http://www.ouest-france.fr/actu/actuLocale_-Etables-sur-Mer_22055_actuLocale.Htm? The article is locked. Unless you can wait 24 hours to read it (or buy the paper...), you should be able to read the article tomorrow, from 00h01. The paper version of the newspaper sells for € 0.80 Euros. I don't know how much the "Internet" version costs - but it is out! I will post about the complete article once it becomes unlocked by tomorrow. Good reading! It's there! That's exactly why you should read the book, once it comes out (perhaps near or after this christmas!). I can guarantee you that no Ronaldos have been hurt during the making of this book... Believe me, there is nothing more important for the Madeirenses than their island! Although they'd probably hire mercenaries to rescue Ronaldo if he was "held against his will" on continental Portugal.
  13. I hardly doubt that there's anywone more difficult to contempt than I, as far as Thirdwire MP games are concerned. For one, I'm not a "network engineer" nor am I professionally related to the Internet (even if I worked as a websmaster years ago...). For me, multiplayer has to be simple: you click on a button to join or host. That has to be it! I don't want or care about complex firewall/port settings to fine tune multiplayer for thirdiwre games. Today, a Greek friend of mine - Alko Click - most unexpectedly gave me the solution for this problem. He told me about "open leaf" - a "connecting softawre" which allows all games to conenct, just as when every computer is on a LAN (every computer physically conencted to each other...) network. I have tried this today using a combined WOV/WOE patched to the october 2008 "latest patch" and to my greatest satisfaction, it worked properly! I will now host games using Openleaf. I sugegst that you download it here: http://www.leafnetworks.net/download.html All you have to do is register and add me to your network (Diabolico_77th). Then it works like this: 1) All players launch and log in to Openleaf. 2) Both players launch their game and click on the MP game. Wait and let it do its thing. 3) Once it stops looking for a network game, the person wishing to become the host clocks on the game's host tab. 4) The persons wishing to join just have to hit refresh until the host game appears on the list. Then all you have to do is to click join and you're done. I personally found it a lot easier to use and configure than the latest versions of Hamachi. I urge those of you wishing to play MP games on the list below: - WOV/WOE mixed install; - WOI; - SFP1 Gold (or SFP1 as I will add the C-130...); - A future mixed install of all the above mentioned games. ... to download and install openleaf. I can be joined on MSN (misterm73 at hotmail dot com). I'm mostly invisible but will most likely answer any sollicitations for Thirdwire games MP. That is all.

Although it's written in English, interest in my work and myself has "sparkled" on the national press. I have been interviewed by one of the local reporters of Ouest France - the third most read newspaper in the country. Of course, this is not "the first page" but it's very encouraging to have the press get interested on my work - especially considering that it is a "disappearing genre" - just like the flight sims. I think I'll be on the news on tuesday. For those not living in France, the article will also be available (in French) on their website: Ouest France I will keep you posted.
  15. Mercenary of the Seas is out

Thank you very much for your support. Your words are very "heart-warming"! Thanks to Sony Tuckson, a French version may soon see the day. He offered to help me by translating the book from English to French free of charge. This generosity could not pass unnoticed or "unsung". Thank you Sony for helping me making this book available to the French Speaking persons. Thank you very much for your benevolence and help. Like the flightsim genre, the "geopolitical thriller" is a "dying genre" and anything we can do "to offer people what they like to read" - this regardless of any economical interests - is avery good thing. Otherwise, here's a preview of the cover for my next book - "Emperor of Madeira" - the sequel and second book of the "Mercenary of the Seas" saga of my authoring. What do you think of all this? ;-)
  16. Mercenary of the Seas is out

And here's the preview for the sequel - which will be titled "The Emperor of Madeira": https://www.createspace.com/Preview/1059932 Enjoy!
  17. Mercenary of the Seas is out

Yeah! I'm trying to fix that! Otherwise the paperback version now sells for definately less on Amazon, after a new deal with them: https://www.createspace.com/Customer/EStore.do?id=3395475 I don't know if they offer the pdf version for sale there, though... But the book now has a "below the market" price for a 664-page paperback!
  18. Mercenary of the Seas is out

Following negotiations with the Amazon group, the book is liable to lock on a very low price. It should shortly sell for $ 17.69 USD - which is a very "fair price" for a 663-page geopolitical thriller. You can personally follow these negotiations here: https://www.createspace.com/Customer/EStore.do?id=3395475 Here's the pic of the current status: "CreateSpace" is an affiliate service of Amazon and should this go forward, the book will see a "second life" at a correct "market price". Thanks again to combatace for supporting "fledgling" authors like myself and I wish you "good reading"!
  19. Mercenary of the Seas is out

The book has now gone "hardcover" while keeping the same cover. The price has been dramatically reduced from 33 euros to less than 21 euros! We are now in the usual price ranges for a book of this size (663 pages). For the moment it's only available on the publisher's (LULU's website) at this link: http://www.lulu.com/commerce/index.php?fBu...Content=7444874 It will find its way to the usual "Amazon", Barnes and Noble, as well as many other distribution channels in the following months. I'll keep you posted! I've made a big sacrifice on my earnings, going down from 3.18 euros to 2.00 euros net per book copy sold - which is really not much, considering the book's overall price. Same goes for the downloadable version which is now selling for 1.5 euros (I get 1 euro per PDF sold...). It's painful, considering all the work, time and personal investment in this project. Yet this was the "only way" to make this book accessible to more people, with a "de facto" price reduction of 12 euros (18 US dollars). Thanks you very much to all of you who have supported me by buying this book and to combatace for given me space to promote it here!
