I, too, fly with two controllers, which is what, in effect, you are doing. When you are flying , go into Controls and make sure that the X52 is running your x and y axis settings, but that your rudder axis setting is deleted (using " delete joystick assignment " ) Now select the ch pedals controller and in that one ensure that the x and y axes are deleted, but that the rudder axis is assigned. Then save that configuration and the name you type in , on saving it , MUST BE "Mine" Because that is the only configuration that OFF uses.- unlike CFS3 which lets you use different ones. HTH

Still significant AI problems.
Fortiesboy replied to Siggi's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes, perfectly sound tactics. It's what I would do as well. It's surprising how hard a time the enemy had finding you, without your labels on - lol But, if i understand Polovski correctly, he is suggesting that the AI will fight more cleverly if they are engaged at height and not taken down near the ground. Fair enough, but a lot of the times in QC it's the AI who go down to the ground- you follow and then find them swanning around aimlessly- particularly the Neuiports and the pfalz. If Winder is working on this problem, all strength to his elbow, because, for QCers, it is a weakness of the sim. -
Welcome to OFF, Luis. I think it is in another recent thread that Polovski ( One of the Devs ) stated that the damage model has not been changed and is not changeable in workshops. What is changeable is the " realism " between hard and normal , which seems to be a case of how many bullets you have to put into the EA aircraft before they are adversely affected, and how few are needed to hit your plane before you are in trouble. Combined with this is the effectiveness of your weapons - normal-strong- strongest. Also changeable is the nearness the EA aircraft get to you before they open fire. What is the most realistic has been the subject of much debate. Some seem to favour the strategy side of the sim in making it hard for your pilot to survive, therefore the harder it is to do that, the more realistic it is. Others prefer to concentrate on the flying aspects- how do the planes fly, easy or as they were in fact- and some debate as to whether they have (all ) been modelled ( or can be modelled - a computer sim must have limitations, no matter how good a programmer you are ) close to the planes characteristics, Or whether they react with each other when fighting, in the manner they did in real life. Again, very hard to achieve. What is brilliant is the ability to almost believe you are there- you can concentrate on your likes and set up the sim accordingly and then have a really good time. You will enjoy OFF3 if you like flight sims, which i presume you do, as you have bought one. A lot of work has gone into creating it, and the forum has a bunch of really good chaps. Any questions you have, especially when beginning, will be helpfully answered. I hope you will enjoy it here .

FAO UK OFF'ers - TIMEWATCH SAT 21st BBC2 8.00pm
Fortiesboy replied to Davy TASB's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
MY Apologies,- I failed to read your post correctly. I assumed you had said McCudden. They say that assumption is the mother of all cock ups, and I've just proved that. cheers -
Not my experience. In fact, much of the above isn't my experience at all. The secret is to launch CFS3 QC in Workshops, and then; You are not above the same piece of real estate. there is an almost interminable change of location, that i doubt any one person has used all of them. The weather has many settings- ( Guess who's fed up of getting wet, time and again. ) The tactics of evasion are not much different in campaign, once you find the enemy to fight. Not every field is enemy. When i win against the EA I can look around and pick the friendly field and land on it.!! Don't see a problem. A nice bonus on some of the locations is, after defeating the planes, you can often find enemy trucks scuttling through the woods and attack them. They blow up nice too. then you can go and land at your airfield. Overall, I play QC more than campaign.

FAO UK OFF'ers - TIMEWATCH SAT 21st BBC2 8.00pm
Fortiesboy replied to Davy TASB's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
If I understood the programme correctly, Mannock did NOT become the CO of 85 Squadron. The programme stated that he was intended to be, but they rejected him because of his background. He was posted to CO of another squadron instead. That attitude, and thus non appointment as CO, of the 85 squadron is what our comments are about. :) -

Yes - I saw it tonight - excellent. Learned a lot. certainly learned not to fly for the 85 squadron. I'll probably fly against them, though, when my pilot Heinz SOUPPE takes to the skies. :) Good lad, that Jimmy! -
Normal with "hard" guns vs. Hardcore with "normal guns?
Fortiesboy replied to redwolf's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
OK - noted Pol. I decided to do a complete re install in view of your reply. I have just uninstalled from Add / remove programs. (I have also deleted the folders in docs and settings and i have deleted the OBD software folder in C drive. ) When i was doing this - it showed that it had removed the Hardcore version of OFF. I take it that that was the version i had presently got installed? Can I ask a stupid question? When I had installed the 1.28a version, I then had also downloaded the two versions Hardcore and Normal. They were each in the form of OFF manager exes. In order to change between the two, I took it that each time i wanted to do that, I double clicked on the appropriate exe and it thus changed the main install to the one i wanted? Is that the correct and only thing i need to do? And is there a confirmation somewhere as to which version i am running? TIA - I will now re install OFF. cheers -
Normal with "hard" guns vs. Hardcore with "normal guns?
Fortiesboy replied to redwolf's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
the mightysrc S! I have a high spec PC running at 53342 - It normally has a FPS of 50-60, around 30-40 at airfields Oliham - I use normal res- i know about highest res settings in workshop. The fact is that the damage does not occur in QC - I fly mostly QC because of time constraints and variation possibilities are better available. I will try campaign to see if there is any difference. I have flown OFF as my main sim since phase 1. I know it intimately. I also know that there is a belief that if the planes take lots of bullets with no damage apparent and ,indeed, they do not go down, then that is "realism" Well, IMHO, it isn't . cheers -
Normal with "hard" guns vs. Hardcore with "normal guns?
Fortiesboy replied to redwolf's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I'm still trying the different modes- Hardcore and normal- but I am finding that there is hardly any damage shown much in either. Sure, the planes go down -Hardcore, eventually, and Normal, easier- but I don't see any damage of wings off, explosions etc in either mode.. To me. a plane slowly sycamore leafing it down is not realistic- whether it's taken many or few shots to do it. I hasten to add that this is in QC - the only scenario i have yet tried, and with later planes only -1917 onwards - but it isn't my idea of realism. As I have previously said, if you get behind the EA and pump bullets in him, something should give. There will be breakage of something, as well as canvas, - and that means weakness in the frame , and so more breakages - like wings etc. will become apparent. I have modded my own xmls for better damage and what i get does not make this sim arcade, far from it- If you use no padlock, no labels, no tac - and always in full cockpit, this is one very immersive sim - IMHO the best there is- as I have now got it- But, then , whatever rocks your boat ,as they say. :) -
DM: just right after 1.28?
Fortiesboy replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I agree wholeheartedly with the first part -thanks Winder. And I agree with the second paragraph. If you pump many bullets into a plane something will give. They all will not go thru the canvas. If you have to have virtually invincible enemies in order to determine your ability to get to 17 hours, then that isn't realistic, IMHO. And my experience is that with no labels, no TAC, no HUD, no padlock- but flying with full cockpit, then this isn't an easy sim. Those that say it is must be "ubermen" -
Beautiful Perfomance increase at zero cost!
Fortiesboy replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - Knowledge Base
have now, Simon -- WooHoo!!! Great . If i stay on scenery/terrain on 3s I get FPS exceeding hundred, and 60 at airfields!! Yessir - tax that CFS3 - it loves it. thanks -
It's really like this. Buy it and you will conclude that it is the best sim you ever played. Whether Quick combat or campaign- ( personally i fly QC mostly - hair raising dogfights. Think you're good ? try with labels off!! ) Don't buy it- and you will ( as long as you are into flight sims, ) wonder what you've missed. Not all these chaps here can be wrong. I fly it EVERY day- 'nuff said.

I can't quite catch Collishaw (or how I play this sim)
Fortiesboy replied to tttiger's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
So do I. My three pilots are 1 German and two British. But they fly in QC. The first, Heinz Souppe, is doing quite well in his Dr1, but he hasn't yet come across my two favourite british Aces , Tesco White and Asda Brown. They can be quite crusty characters, but deep inside they are quite soft really. I can't find much reference to them in the history books, though. They were probably not too well known. -
I hate to go against the grain here...
Fortiesboy replied to tn_prvteye's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
You don't say, but I presume you are flying in full cockpit, no labels, no padlock etc If you have this "no cockpit, but use the HUD" method, then maybe it isn't too hard, but i can't see it being easy in "full" real. Half the time it's hard to know where they are-lol -
Patch 1.26 observations and comments

Rabu S! - If he is flying OFF BHAH, the cfs3 exe doesn't come into it, does it ? He is flying the OFF exe , as installed, yes? and so the 50 yd bug is well and truly history. As it happens, I too, am experiencing a lack of wings coming off etc. in 1.26+ hotfix. I HAVE A qUAD CORE i7 computer like OVS' and it is fast. I spent today doing a series of tests in QC - SE5a Versus Dr1 and Pfalz III. They were rookies and i had on all the messages to see what hits i made. I used trackir on and off, and the effects up to 5. I had players weapon on normal and strongest, But there were only one or two occasions- all day- when a plane exploded or a wing came off. In fact, once! Most spiralled out of control but went in intact. I tried guns on easiest and hardest, believing that hardest was the old "tightest" re spread. That setting gave me more hits, according to the blue messages, than easiest. However, there were many occasions when i fired many rounds into him , and smack on target according to the "tube" ( Se5a), that were NOT registered. - I found that strange. Then another burst shortly after showed some hits. After modding the damage, I got wings coming off. I stress this is for QC only, which I play mostly ( for various reasons ) -I haven't seen what happens in campaign yet, but it is still not easy to get bits ( big bits ) flying off -lol. Still, it is the best sim by far- and will be for a long time

German Trucks -- They don't make 'em like that anymore
Fortiesboy replied to Thumper41's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Olham S! No, it's possible to burn the enemy trucks . That's one of the reasons, amongst others, that i fly mostly QC. Nothing better after a good dogfight and you got some ammo left, to look around and see a few enemy trucks trundling through the woods. Fly down the road and give em a few rounds, whilst avoiding the trees. I've just re installed to 1.26 ( not the hotfix ), and I blew three up - flames, dust, all sorts came up. Great fun. Bear in mind, I use the CFS3 QC so that i can change location. some locations have enemy trucks and troops- some don't. -
Now this is true. Honest. Having installed the hotfix to OFF3 v1.26, I have flown all day in QC and I began to wonder if the DM had changed since I installed the hotfix. I couldn't seem to get the EA to shed wings and such the same as I remembered in 1.26. The EA would go down, would spiral or sink flat, but I didn't see ( except just once when right on top of it ) any wings come off. This was despite having gone from Normal to Strong through to Strongest weapon settings. So, I thought i'll go back to 1.26. When i installed OFF3 I made a back up copy of the folder in C drive and the one in Docs and settings on an external hard drive. So, I moved the respective folders of 1.26+hotfix , and replaced them with the vanilla install copies. Made a pilot , started up and flew a mission- ( had to redo pilots and config file etc ) So, wanting to get to V 1.26 I then went to install the 1.26 patch. Double clicked and this is what it said "Setup notes that your Over flanders field installation is already patched to level 1.27" This patch is only level 1.26 This patch cannot be installed. " So, that is how to get patch 1.27 -lol I'd love to hear what happened. Can the devs confirm that to get back to 1.26 the only way is to uninstall and then re install and patch to 1.26. It's all very interesting and i'd love to know what version I do have. It says V1.1 in workshops. :) :)

Hey, Winder, did you not notice the smileys all around the post. This was a light hearted post with no inferred criticism whatsoever. I thought it was slightly amusing that the latest patch was 1.26+hotfix, and I seemed to have 1.27 -lol I even anticipated what the fix would have to be.- and which you confirmed :) I didn't think I buggered around with the files in an unusual manner at all, really. All I did, after a vanilla install, was make a copy on another hard drive, of the two main folders as described. I did this thinking that if the install got porked somehow, then i could replace those two files and finish up with a vanilla install again.? It seems that is not the case. But I didn't know that. And I even did this, not because there was something wrong with the install, but just to try to get back to 1.26 without a re-install. Which is what i will now do- hopefully. Have a nice day!

German Trucks -- They don't make 'em like that anymore
Fortiesboy replied to Thumper41's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes, I noticed something like that too after the hotfix. Before, I was able to make them explode and burn when I hit them, but after the hotfix they just turned black. Part of the reason i tried to go back to 1.26. :) -
Like OVS, I have 3 gigs on my XP 32 bit system. I had a problem with my Creative sound card in that the mic did not work, which after many enquiries led me to believe, via a MS Knowledge base answer, was because I had more than 2 gigs of memory. I now need to use the onboard realtek sound to have a mic. This may not apply to your rig. It is mentioned in case it becomes relevant.

Patch 1.26 observations and comments
Fortiesboy replied to Winston DoRight's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I think if you had asked a real WW1 pilot if he wanted to empty his spandau into one enemy , or dispose of him leaving him some ammo for other enemies, that the answer was a no brainer :) I think he'd make do without the pretty fire=lol -
Getting too many kills in 1.26?
Fortiesboy replied to Winder's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks WM - I like this patch very much from the little QC I've flown. As I've always said, if you get behind the enemy and get him in your sights, then your bullets should get some sort of result. And now it seems they do. Thanks for all the hard work. Can you please clarify this - I'm not sure of the AI range settings? Is the realistic your old "shoot from 400 yds ", or is that the easy ? I want to set it so that the AI don't fire till they are close. TIA -
I remember from FCG days that these WW1 planes nearly always needed the pilot to lean on the stick slightly to keep them in level flight. Hands off for level flight didn't seem to be an option.
