I agree wholeheartedly with this. It is the only reason I have not bought ROF. I will not buy any sim that requires online connection to play it. And that includes OFF, if it goes that route. I'm sure it won't, cos they know that their fans buy the sim. I'll bet there is less than ten users of OFF who have pirated it.

No, not go back unless I was rich and powerful. The "good old days" of early 1900s were anything but that. But I'd like to go forward!. About 100 or 200 years. Or 1000 years. To see the technology then, WOW!

It's not a good idea -It's essential!!! By doing that you put some essential files into your registry- Files which OFF needs. cheers

For some years now i have been of the opinion that the law is more interested in looking after the criminal than their victims. And forget Justice -IMHO, lawyers are only interested in the law- certainly not justice. Today I read how we should all be grateful to a judge who has given a chap a suspended sentence because he was a decent man defending himself! Well I say the judge's action is a disgrace. He should be overturning the conviction. It seems that this decent man- and by all accounts he is a decent law abiding man - was attacked by a thug with an axe. So this man defended himself with a knife, and won. And what does the law do? Convicts him and gives him a criminal record. I am so perplexed and outraged by this. How the hell do you get to be a criminal by defending yourself against being attacked by someone who is using an axe? Is not your life in danger when this happens? And are you not entitled to defend your life even if it means the attacker losing his? Every time I see a warfilm now, or some programme commemorating those who died in WW 2 for this Country - UK - I am physically dismayed and depressed and wonder just what the hell the poor bastards died for. Enough is enough!

Yes - totally agree. I downloaded it and tried it, and in the absence of OFF it would be great. But go back to OFF and there's no contest. OFF is best scenery there is. Although I haven't tried ROF, I've seen the screenies and even that seems inferior to OFF scenery. Do a scramble in OFF and sweep low and hard till you sus the EA. The terrain is tremendous.

I'm sorry, but I find that hard to believe. The new AI, supposedly the new easy AI, is IMHO harder than the old AI which dives down to the deck. If you play the new AI and play against more AI than you have friendlies, then I don't see it being too easy at all. For the simple reason that if you are playing full real, no labels etc, then you can't see all the AI all the time - the camo of them against the brilliant scenery is extremely good- and this new AI will find you and zap you. If you got loads of red writing everywhere, then it is very easy. So, Uber players- do you play CFS3 QC? Do you create scenarios where you are alone at 10000ft and come up against 3 or 4 EA, all at ACE setting.? And you find that too easy to win? Then make it 6 EA? If that's too easy, have yourself sat on the runway, alone, and go up to meet the 4 Aces? That too easy? - :no:

That is not a fair statement to make. We are not talking about "lawbreakers"- kids stealing bikes are lawbreakers - we are talking about perps violently attacking innocent citizens. And when that happens, do you still say "but that does not give you the right to take his life."? I am amazed at the numbers of people who, when making judgement on these situations, seem to forget one basic, and what should be the overwhelming, fact. Before the action started, who was doing what? Almost always the victim was going about his lawful business- walking along a street; sitting in his home. IOW, minding his own business and leaving peacably. Then - along comes a bloke who decides to rob, burgle, rape or somehow attack this victim. To me, at this very moment, (as someone most succinctly put it ) all bets are off. A successful defence should be permitted, and it should be irrelevant what injuries occur to the perp. This crap about you should run if you can! Or if you knock him down that's where your assault should finish. Bah! You are entitled in law to win. And that means - to be safe. To hold your ground and be standing there with the perp in no position to be a threat or resume to be a threat. IOW- He is on the ground unconscious. And if in becoming unconscious he happens to die, then it's his tough luck. Why should a victim knock down a perp and then wait to see if he gets up again with his cosh or knife ? Remember- who was doing what before all this started! That should be foremost in the mind of any prosecutor.

I've been flying all the rotary planes in a similar way to this for some long while now. It's been a small cheat though, cos all I did was use two buttons on my cougar hotas. Press first time and i have full throttle; press again and i have one third throttle . Press a second button and i have tickover. Using only those three buttons ( and not moving the throttle stick ) makes dogfighting in a camel or Dr1 very interesting.

Cos' I've damned near got it perfect. Never had so much fun and suspension of belief as in the last few days- So I've made a complete copy of the CFSWW1 Overflanders field folders ( the one in doc and settings too )so that if my tweakitis ever takes me into trouble, i can get back to where I am now. Lol With my DMs tweaked and my selected planes' FMs as well, I am living with the AIs in speed and height, and climbing fine using top rudder- just as I always figured it would have been like. My favourite gun platform is the Albatross 200a, and the most challenging is the DR1. I've been taking off ( scramble in CFS3 QC ) with 2 mates, warding off the attacks from 4 EA ( various) and then afterwards, if still alive, I've sometimes found an enemy truck convoy and blown hell out of them, before landing back home.-- Absolutely lovely simming.

Hmm Not sure, now you say. I just figured that on my present install, if something went funny can't I just copy the folders to the install and then it would re- write over the files including the messed up ones? Or, like you mention, if i re install and have a vanilla install, just do the same with the folders? If it doesn't work i got nothing to lose I suppose.

Aha, Simon, that's the trouble with flying CFS3 QC for both sides- you have to be a "double agent" -lol Tricky sometimes in the jolly old Mess, when you forget and order a schnapps! Yes, I'd better grow the old moustache again and sneak back to fly the old Camel.

Headphones all the time out of consideration for the wife and the neighbours.- Semi detached house. I've had them for some years now . they are still good. Plantronics with a built in mic. I use them with a trackirPro3 and hat- tried a mates clip and don't like it. Been using 'phones since some years ago i let my mate fly a dogfight while i went downstairs to make a cuppa. I could not believe the noise the guns made.Where i was it was ten times worse than in the room itself. I used to fly online with a guy who used speakers all the while. I visited him one day and I did wonder how his wife put up with the noise- after all, we were online ( with EAW ) with USA friends up to 2am.!! Wasn't surprised when he gave it up . i reckon he had ( rightly ) an ultimatum.

This is a valid point made by Ironhat. I have experienced it, especially it seems to me, if you are flying the German machines, and in dogfights where you are chasing the EA, who always seems to be able to climb just out of reach. You try to follow and, behold you are going into a stall- but not him. Then I began to notice that some of the players aircraft- i.e the DR1 and pfalz and some Albs, were not reaching their max RPMs. (E.g. the DR1 should be 1200, but is barely above 1000 ) So, I've played with the FMs and got the RPMs up, and now I can catch the AI ) I've also found that a climbing turn is possible by using top rudder, whereas before, doing that led me to slide inexorably into the deck. This is no big problem for me, as I do not fly much campaign, but mostly QC. And there is a way that you can fly these Uncertified aircraft in QC. I feel I'm now on a level playing field, and certainly my frustration has decreased and my fun increased!

LOL - I love hyperbole. U.P. Do you fly OFF? ( I thought you didn't have it yet! ) If so, which FMs are the best in your opinion.

Hello I am returning to this sim, and I know little about it, except that it has changed a lot from the original, according to reports on other sims' threads. I don't know where to start re the mods. Can someone tell me which is the best spring/summer terrain and how to get the best AI. I mainly fly dogfights - campaign doesn't interest me too much at the moment. thanks a lot.

Hello - I,too, am returning to give this another try. If i may ask a dumb question or two. I have purchased the expansion pack. The download was 205 mb. Is this the expansion pack itself , or do i clcik on the exe to download further files? If the 205 mb is the complete expansion pack, that is fine, but I ask because my gaming rig is not normally online, and I have in mind to transfer what i have already downloaded to my gaming rig, where the FE sim is installed. I hope that makes sense! Having installed the expansion pack, there is one other update to download and instal, yes? Just the one? thanks

Lol= Yes, don't worry, I pretend a lot , especially if I am bruno stachel in the pfalz.! In order to fly as well as him, well almost, I have upped the revs to 1400 ( the spec is 1440), got a bit more roll and a little less elevator, so that helps. You know, this new less aggressive AI is really growing on me in CFS3/QC I just took on 2 Camels in MVR's souped up DR1, which he let Bruno borrow for saving his life ( they didn't show that bit in the film, it was left on the editor's floor- ahem ! ), Anyway, after 10 minutes Bruno smoked one which hightailed it, then he saw the other below in a spin, then lost it against the trees. _ And that's using a 5ft projector screen! = On engine tickover, Bruno's looking for him for s few minutes, when it turns out that the blighter had doubled back and was diving on our hero, who got his arse shot away.! Manfred was really pleased !! How's that for easy, "non aggressive" AI? Excellent says I, but you got to leave all the aids behind and play full real. Some sim, is this!

Yes - That is good advice re this problem, which i find is also not just confined to the pfalz. Many of the german planes seem to me to be modelled under power. The Dr1, pfalz and some Albs. Have a look at the RPMs - Planes meant to be 1200 max are barely 1000, some at 1400 max are at 1200 etc. And, together with a poor roll rate ( Dr1) -and I will take a fly of the pfalz re this - this can give you a bad start against the AI FMs. Because i fly almost only CFS3 QC, I can fly some planes which I've managed to mod- got more RPM and in the case of the Dr1, which rolls like a Sherman, I've got that with more aileron authority. Just to say though, that even with these mods, this new non aggressive AI is brilliant. in dogfights where there are more AI than you. I usually start at 10000 ft, against two or three Ace AI, and on full real, no aids, external views, messages , labels etc etc, I invariably lose. Seems whilst I am trying to line up on one, the other is lining up on me. If I sus him I usually lose the target and so I have to find and deal with one pretty quick before the other finds me. And they do that better because they stay high in this non aggressive AI. So that's why i need fully revved planes.-lol 15 and 20 minute dogfights are leaving me knackered! Great fun!

Like Siggi, this is the only "big" flight sim I have decided not to buy ( at the moment ) I am not a fanbio of any one sim, I take each on its merits. However, the reason i passed on ROF was the online requirement. Simple as that. I am a rare OFF user, ( I think ), in that I am not too bothered by the campaign- I'm a QC man- love the quick dogfight etc - so ROF would have suited me where it doesn't suit many OFFers because of the campaign thing. But I'm not going to buy a sim that i can then only use as long as someone keeps a server going. With no guarantee that it will be there next week, let alone next year!. Apart from the security issues there may or may not be in such an arrangement. If that requirement is dropped I'd buy it - I think many others would too. I hope so, and that Neoqb realize that and change the status quo, but I'm not holding my breath. I'd like to give it a go though!

I have tried this DH5 in CFS3 /QC, where I mainly fly, and it was sluggish, I agree. It seemed to me that the reason is that the max RPM of this plane is not being reached. (like in one or two other planes ) Its max in RL was 1200. In the sim it is just over 1000. However, I have "tweaked ", and as a result I am flying over 100 air speed and I was able to down an Alb D11. I then went on to climb, from 7000, to see how high I could go. I managed 14000, waddling along at 80 air speed. But at around 7000, where i did the dogfight, it performed well, for what I suppose it is.i.e a mediocre dogfighter. The tweak, though easy to do, does mean that it can't be used in campaign, though it can , obviously ,in CS3/QC. The tweak makes it an "uncertified craft" If anyone wants to try it, then, if Polovski gives permission, I can write a couple of paragraphs here, or respond to a PM.
