  1. This are my lines from Nieuport21_data.ini

Used cartridges are now extracted and thrown where they should be thrown (i.e. to the side, not back).

(However, as far as I know, tracers were not widespread in Russian aviation.)

Very much used by the French on the Balkan front, with limited success as it proved unable to intercept ennemy bombers and recon

In reality, the N21 was usually used by the French without weapons as a trainer, although individual copies still ended up at the front. The Serbs had quite a lot of them, and the later ones - in fact, remotorized N17s.

But the only country where this type was actively used as a combat type was Russia. The low engine power did not allow the use of the heavy Vickers, therefore, as standard armament, various types of machine guns (Lewis, Hotchkiss, possibly Madsen and Colt) were used in an asynchronous version. By the summer of 1917, when the motor hunger for 110HP "Rhones" was overcome, part of the 21s were brought up to the standard of the 17th model during a major overhaul. The engine was changed to a more powerful one and a synchronous Vickers was installed. In some documents, this type is designated as "Nieuport 21bis", outwardly, both variants of the plane could be distinguished from the N17 by an incomplete engine hood, as on the 11th type.

  3. Wonderful job.:ty:

But, as the great Tanizaki said, I will note one circumstance.

On the Nieuport aircraft (up to Type 24-27), the upper elevators control cables ran THROUGH the stabilizer. For this purpose, special through "slits" were made there.

This is a very characteristic feature of the prototype, which immediately catches the eye on the model.

  4. With regret, I inform you, gentlemen, that another update has appeared on the A-Team Skunkworks site - the Vickers FB.27 Vimy. I say "with regret" 'cause it seems that there is not a single man left here for a long time who has not been banned by Capun for ever.  :haha:

But at least we can admire the screenshots.

Of course, this is still a beta version due to the lack of any wires.

What is the procedure for correctly using them?:dntknw:

Do you mean the SYSTEMMENUICON, SYSTEMMENUICONHI and systemmenuicondisabled BMP Files? Just drop them into the game folder (... \ Program Files \ ThirdWire \ Strike Fighters 2).

Did anyone has a good cockpit to fit on R-11?

By the way, why are you not satisfied with the adapted cockpit from Caudron G4?

In addition, in this thread on page 22 Geezer posted the cockpit of his work. Unfortunately, it is completely static and the textures do not work at all adequately, but it looks good ...

The RXI had 2 purposes :

    1- Long range reconnaissance

    2- Long range escort

Quite right. I don't argue with that. In addition, in this case, I was talking about analogies that are distant in time, and not about the actual specification. So, for example, many people consider German J-class planes to be "attack aircraft", although they were not. Or the Russian "Ilya Muromets" de facto was also considered a long-range scout, although it could be used as a middle bomber ))

Chaffeur pour les artilleurs. Probably not a good translation, but it captures the idea behind this plane

Yes, you are absolutely right. The R.XI is, as it were, what was later called a "long-range escort fighter", a kind "cruiser" (in naval terminology), "an aircraft for gaining air superiority." Let's not forget that in those days (up to the WW2) the concept of the "big fighter" was alive. Indeed, many two-seater planes of that time could practically compete on an equal footing with single-seater hunters.

If my memory serves me, Geezer himself did something like this, but, it seems, did not finish it ... In the end, we are all a bit modders here and know how to screw any cockpit to the airplane we are interested in ... True, I didn't specifically do this, because by convictions I am a fighter, not a bomber. In the sense that R.11 is for me a cart or target, not a fighter

  10. Hi!

If there are still comrades here that the great and terrible Caesar capun did not have time to ban, I bring to their attention that something interesting on our topic has appeared on the A-Team Scunkworks website. True, this is only Beta Models, but this is not a big problem. By themselves, the models look pretty good (you can feel Geezer's hand)

and these ribbed wings - I just love them! :yahoo:

In addition, there are a number of propeller-driven airplanes from the inter-World War period (in Pre-WW2 Planes section). It looks like Geezer has shared some of his work with capun.

Main thing to keep in mind is that all mods. and user tweaks for FE2 go into the user directory for FE2 located in the "Saved Games" folder on Win7, Win10, etc., as follows:

    C:\Users\Yourusername\Saved Games\ThirdWire\FirstEagles2

And this is very inconvenient for me, since the C: \ disk is a system drive and has a relatively small volume. But the most unpleasant thing is that if the system is reinstalled or crashed (as happened a couple of days ago), all installed mods will be lost.

In fact, I am also new in 2nd Gens, as I have never installed this package before (for the above reason among other things). On my hard disk only SF2_Sep2011 hung (I don't have FE2, but I have the full SF2 series). On it, I tested aircraft and other objects that I liked, but did not work in the 1st Gens. In general, my preference has always been on the side of the good old FEG and WoE, where I threw all modern jets and helos.

I saw that a couple times as I was adjusting some basic data.ini numbers during test flights.  Note the "Y" values for the fuel tank's MinExtentPosition/MaxExtentPosition.  Not really sure if this is the solution to the problem, but I changed these to have the WingFuelTank included within the Fuselage and haven't had that "forward-looking" leak occur since those revisions.

Apparently, the aircraft, FM of which was taken as the basis for creating FM for J.1, had a gas tank located there. And these data were simply forgotten to change, in relation to the new model.

My Junkers J-1 is here! All new files and FM by Von S (it flies thanks to him).

Thank you, the job is really, really good. The plane flies and handles well.

But it still has a weirdly implemented fuel leak (or coolant leak?) -- а white cloud runs ahead of the airplane ))

Would be great to add this downward firing guns. Could be as "Gun Pod".

    2.jpg

These are not machine guns.  This 'organ' was never installed on serial J.1 aircraft. Only on the J.816 / 17 aeroplane was experimented with installing a battery in the fuselage floor with two LMG 08/15 Spandau machine guns at an angle of 45 from  for firing at ground targets, but the additional guns remained at the experimental level.

Besides, it doesn't matter at all in FE. If only because gunners do not know how to fire at ground targets.

The plan was to fly at very low altitude along with the trench strafing everything below. An unique feature by the way!

Yet this 'iron' was not an attack plane. The Tin Donkey was an army co-operation plane, the contact-patrol machine and a low-altitude scout. The main task of the German J-types is to monitor the actions of the enemy and friendly troops on the line of contact. The weapon is for defense only, although the gunner could throw small fragmentation bombs. The CL-types is much better as an attack plane, which has been demonstrated in practice ...

  16. The answer to the third question is most likely negative. But I have an answer to your first two questions.

1- Just rename your songs appropriately and drop them into your "Menu" folder:

    BaseScreen.wav
    CampaignScreen.wav
    CreditsScreen.wav
    DebriefFail.wav
    DebriefKilled.wav
    DebriefSuccess.wav
    HangarScreen.wav
    LoadoutScreen.wav
    MainScreen.wav
    OptionsScreen.wav
    RecordScreen.wav
    SingleMissionScreen.wav

You'll want to put your wav in the "Flight" folder to call Loading.wav and a screen called "LoadingScreen.jpg"

2 - You also should create many JPGs for the "Menu" folder:

    CampaignScreen.jpg
    CreditsScreen.jpg
    DebriefScreen.jpg
    DefaultBaseScreen.jog
    DefaultEndScreen.jpg
    LoadoutScreen.jpg
    MainScreen.jpg
    MissionEditor.jpg
    OptionsScreen.jpg
    PilotRecordScreen.jpg
    PlanningMapScreen.jpg
    RosterScreen.jpg
    SingleMissionScreen.jpg
    Titles.jpg

Gents, I could swear that I saw the Fokker D.VI and the Sop Salamander somewhere to download. After a systematic search I found nothing. Am I crazy?

Maybe you meant Fokker D.VII or D.VIII? The first is a stock aircraft, the second is in the download section, just like the earlier Fokkers. But the Salamander was definitely not here, only Snipe was in the downloads section. :dntknw:

I'm always trying to find a balance between appearance and frame rate. I've gotten better over the years and my planes have gotten more and more detailed. But it always comes down to the question: do I want to look at the plane, or do I want to play the game?

I understood you. I expected something like this. ) Maybe you're right. A little more details adds realism, but who cares, you won't notice them, and neither will I. ))

And yes, your skill grows from model to model. :good:

I was able to remove some detail from the engine and machine gun so I could add the air pump on the strut. ... The file size is bigger than I would like, but still acceptable.

Why reduce detail? IMHO, the more details the better. Modern PCs can handle large files easily.
Here, in the downloads section, there are very "heavy" models, the LODs of which weigh about 5 MB, 10 MB and more. Even my weak PC "digests" them pretty well.

  20. Not certainly in that way. Yes, you are right, this is not question of regulations , but more tradition.

But this tradition has nothing to do with engine type or torque. It was just that during takeoff, landing or taxiing, the large nose of the aircraft blocked the pilot's forward view. The pilot had to look out of the cockpit. The British decided that it was more convenient to look out from the left. Later, young pilots were taught this way, and very soon it became a habit and became the norm. Also the instructor stand on the left wing when teaching taxiing.
