  1. Hello there, I'm trying to make a WOV icon. I made one then decided to move the text around so that the little square box with an arrow inside that sits in the lower left hand side of the icon image wouldn't cover up the text. Unfortunatelty the dang arrow box still covers it up. But what's wierd is that it looks like the little box rearranges the text on my icon. I don't understand how it can do this to a fixed image. Because when I redid the text the second time, the text is in a totally different location as compared to the first attempt, but when I go to change the totally different icon, it appears as though it rearranged the text back to the way it was. I restarted the computer as I first thought that somehow the new icon didn't register and windows was somehow selecting the old icon but its still the same. Any ideas on this one?
  2. Nevermind. Thanks though. Something must have been messing with me. I deleted the icon I made from My Pictures and re-exported the image again to an icon but this time I saved it to the desktop. I changed the icon image for the game and it worked this time. I stuck the icon back into my pictures and tried rechanging the icon once again from this location and its still okay. Don't know what's up with that but its working now.
  3. Hello. I'm thinking of getting a new pc. I've done Dells in the past but this time around I'm going to IBUYPOWER. I have a few questions. 1. Is it worth getting Windows Vista right now? I ask this as I'm most familiar with XP and more importantly, I seem to hear that certain games, sims in particular, don't run well or at all with it. Would it be better to wait until a future time? (Some of my other questions will certainly be interelated with this first question. 2. I hear that onboard sound is no longer a performance concern for games. Is this true as it would save money to get a motherboard with onboard sound. 3. With respects to the mother board, I can't imagine any time soon, having the desire to try a SLI configuration. But should I go ahead and get a motherboard with multiple pci-e slots just in case I were to change my mind? Its not that much more money to do so. 4. If question three is a yes, then I would get a 600 watt psu that they have listed as sli ready. I assume this is plenty powerfull for one card? 5. I would like to get 4GB of memory. What is the difference between 32bit and 64bit for the Vista OS? I would like to get 4gb of ram, but I hear that only 64bit can utilize that much memory. Can XP utlize 4gb ram If I were to go for that operating system instead? 6. I think I would like to get the Nvidia GeForce 9800GTX+ 1GB card. Is this a good card? Please keep in mind this as well: My last good computer that I had I gave to my sister for her schooling probably two years ago. It was a P4 3.6ghz 2gb Geforce 6800 Dell XPS machine. For these past two years, I've been wrestling with computers older than that one as well with another pc we had not made for gaming whatsoever. At this point, for me, ANYTHING would be a major breath of fresh air. As mentioned before, my last good computer I gave away probably two years ago and I probably owned it previously for two years. So it was at least four years old. I've tried to keep up with the changing technology so that I wouldn't be totally in the dark when I was able to buy a new computer, but there's a bunch I just don't know. To give you an idea of what I would like to play on this computer, I would like to be able to play games and sims that I already own (Lock On, IL-2 series, Flight Simulator, SH3, Oblivion, TW series) as well as games and sims I've been looking forward to playing (ARMA, SH4, FSX). Thank you for your patience with my questions and I thank you for your help and suggestions.
  4. What is Window 7? I'm trying to stay around the $1300 range. I saw a couple of gaming pcs on newegg that has that Corei7 your suggesting there. Like I said, I'm pretty behind on the times here so just about anything would be good.
  5. I was just informed that the mb I listed here was a low end mb with the integrated graphics on it. So you do not have to necessarily have a mb with only on pci-e slot if your choosing to have only one card? You can get a sli ready board that may be better quality and still go the one card route just fine? Here is the list of choices they give me for the weekly special configuator: Asus P5KPL-CM Intel G31 Chipset w/6-channels, Gb LAN, S-ATA 3Gb/s, USB 2.0, Single PCI-E MB [sLI] Asus P5N-D Nvidia nForce 750i SLI Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, IEEE-1394, Dual PCI-E MB EPU Technology [+ $50] ** $100 OFF Mail-In Rebate ** [sLI] Asus P5N-T Deluxe NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, IEEE-1394, 3-Way PCI-E 3-Way SLI & EPU Technology; == $100 OFF Mail-in-Rebate == [+ $149] [sLI] eVGA Nvidia nForce 780i SLI Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, 3-Way PCI-E MB 3-Way SLI [+ $88] [sLI] eVGA Nvidia NForce 680i SLI Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0 Dual PCI-E MB [+ $79] [sLI] MSI P7N SLI-FI Nvidia nForce 750i SLI Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, IEEE-1394, Three PCI-E MB [+ $38] [CrossFire] Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, IEEE-1394, Dual PCI-E MB [+ $62] [CrossFire] Asus P5E Deluxe Intel X48 Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, IEEE-1394, Dual PCI-E MB [+ $177] [CrossFire] Asus Rampage Formula Intel X48 Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, IEEE-1394, Dual PCI-E MB [+ $252] [CrossFire] Asus Maximus II Formula Intel P45 CrossFire Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, IEEE-1394, Dual PCI-E MB
  6. LOL I know that but I do appreciate your advice and suggestions. Like I said, anthing will be a breath of fresh air as anything I purchase will certainly be leaps and bounds beyond my last pc. IBUYPOWER has only one mother board in their list that is not sli. Here it is: Asus P5KPL-CM Intel G31 Chipset w/6-channels, Gb LAN, S-ATA 3Gb/s, USB 2.0, Single PCI-E MB Is this a descent motherboard and will it handle that card you suggested as well as onboard sound well? I know that I don't want to do sli but this is the only mb they have listed with only one pci-e slot.
  7. How about dual core and quad core? Which would be a better cpu for games/sims?
  8. Topgun II in the works

    "I'll have what he's having...hemlock is it"?
  9. Topgun II in the works

Ah you got me too. I think you've lost that lovin' feeling.
  10. Might I offer up another nice canned product? mmmm...good stuff especially eaten with Ritz/Georgia/Saltine crackers. Good fishing food too.
  11. Hey there. My attempt was to install Brain32's Vietnam SEA repaint, then the GreenHell2 mod, then the Rescaled GH2 mod. As far as I can tell I followed the readmes but I'm not getting any trees showing up. -Vietnam repaint shows up fine. Although that too came with trees which I placed into my VietnamSEA terrain folder. But I did not first check to see if those trees that it came with showed up or not. I went right to installing GH2. -I installed GH2 and placed the files in the "medium" trees folder into the VietnamSEA terrain folder. -I then installed the Rescaled GH2 mod. The only confusing thing to me here is that this mod says it requires Brain32's Germany repaint. I did not install this as I'm using all of these for WOV. Was this my problem? I installed the Rescaled mod minus the Germany repaint and when everything is said and done, I have no trees whatsoever. I even tried reinstalling the original Green Hell and just trying that out but still not trees. What am I missing here? Thanks for any guidance.
  12. Thanks CA_Stary. I've always been an nvidia guy so I guess I'm safe then. This pc I'm on doesn't have an extra slot for a card. This pc wasn't made for games. I gave my sister my last good computer two years ago for her schooling and for the last two years I've been wrestling old computers that we still had and this one. I'm antsy to be able to really play my sims again. Any new computer at this point will be a breath of fresh air. I've done Dells in the past but I'm ready to try something new and more affordable. I'm going to try IBUYPOWER for my next pc. I'tll save me over 1000 dollars compared to the past Dells that I've bought.
  13. Okay CA_Stary that was it. I set my ground object detail to medium in game and now I have trees! Thanks for the help. I just need to grab that flickering fix(my trees are flickering) and perhaps use the "small" folder trees. Can't wait to really enjoy your mod and maximizing TW sims when I'm able to swing getting a new pc.
  14. I'm on the latest patch. I had to as some unknown mod that I installed must have required it as I couldn't load WOV at one time. I installed the latest patch and it was up and running again. My terrain detail and textures are set to medium. Ground objects set to low. I'm not on a very good pc for games/integrated chip
  15. Thanks everyone for the help. My Vietnam terrain is now back. However I still have no trees. :umnik2:
  16. Thanks for the patience. Where do I find the VietnamSEA.ini? I have copied from my backup a VietnamSEA cat and VietnamSEAconfig. So now I have presently in my VietnamSEA folder a CAT, config, and data.ini. Never mind on that. I reread your post Wrench as to where the VietnamSEA.ini is. I'm confused. Is the VietnamSEA.ini the same thing as the VietnamSEA config that I see in the folder?
  17. I think I must have deleted those as I deleted the contents the whole folder. I did make a copy of my modded WOV before I started messing with it too much. So I'll go there and retrieve the copies I need. I only have the misc. files and a VietnamSEAdata.ini in my terrain/VietnamSEA folder. So I need to also have the VietnamSEA Cat, Vietnamconfig.ini and Vietnam.ini?
  18. This is neat thanks. I like the animations.
  19. Thanks CA_Stary. I've added to my troubles though. I suppose I shouldn't have, but before restarting the install procedure, I deleted all of the VietnamSEA contents. I reinstalled only the Brain32 VietnamSEA tile and the GH2. Then I installed the .tod files from the medium folder into the VietnamSEA folder. Now the Vietnam isn't in the drop down list. I think I'm missing a Vietnam Config. Did I mess myself up or can that be retrieved with the Cat extractor?
  20. Thanks Dave and CA_Stary for the tips. I'll give them a try. I've been placing all of the .tod files that came with the Brain32 repaint, GH2, and Rescale mod directly into the VietnamSEA folder(no sub folders/ individual .tod files directly into VietnamSEA folder). Before all of this, I was using Deuce's enhanced Vietnam terrain. But the main mods come with their own VietnamSEAData.ini files so nothing leftover from that would cause it would it? The rescale mod comes with a new viewlist.ini. Could that be something? I'll try reinstalling everthing except the Rescale mod and install tree .tod files very last like Dave said and see what happens. Thanks for the help sirs. I've been modding this WOV install fairly successfully but I probably boogered up something somewhere. I'm also using Lexx Luthor's Siberian sky mod.
  21. That would be neat. It'd be really cool if you do get the animation to work.
  22. I think it does. The DS mod requires the latest patch and it incorporates widesky.
  23. I wouldn't think of doing it. But if someone owns those games, those are some music suggestions that I think work well for menu music for the TW series. I already assumed that you can't upload music. But there is TopGun menu music for download that I've wondered about as well as some other sound mods that have some oldies in them.
  24. I think some of the music from the Vietcong fps game would work well as WOV menus. I've also been using some of the great ol' midi music from Jane's ATF/FA for my menus. Some of those are good for WOV too. Here's a Vietcong song that I like from the game:
  25. Hey there. I've been changing various menu music in WOE/ODS but am having trouble getting the "RecordScreen" music to play. I first realised that my music for this was in mp3 format so I converted it to wave format which is the format that WOE's music is in. However the music still won't play when I go ingame to the Pilot selection screen. What am I missing here? I also recall that in the TopGun music mod for download here, the author had "Great Balls of Fire" playing while you look at your planning map. How was he able to get separate music to play for the planning map? The reason I ask is because from what I can tell, the "HangarRadio1" sound file seems to play for all of the various hangar screens including loadout, planning map, flight roster sections. Thanks.
