  1. Repainting Styles

Weathered look for sure. Although some aircraft, like restores or airshow should have a more polished new look. I think different paint schemes are okey, but I also think there should always be a realistic set included with the aircraft for realism/informational reasons. This is a new hobby for me, and I'd like to see/learn the real thing as much as possible ;)
  2. Yeah, it is real fast. I seen a thread over on the official forums for a custom setup of 0 0 0 5 8 10 10 10 and this works like a champ for me. Nice and smooth, and the extended deadband helps alot when aiming in the A-10. Like to see em fix it though ;) Forget to say the x and y axis is linked or bound or whatever it's called.
  3. Wow, just downloaded the P-38 "Glacier Girl" from AVSIM and flew her around, and it was fantastic. What a plane. The flight model and sounds are incredible. It's everything I would think she is made of. I was completely drawn in by this model. The Glacier Girl is from the "Lost Squadron", found buried in snow and ice. Recovered and eventually fully restored in Oct of 2002, she just recently flew again after 60 years of being in cold storage. Her story is here if anyone would like to see...Glacier Girl She is really cool to fly, and has made this virtual flight simmer very happy. What a nice plane to fly. :D
  4. Glacier Girl P-38

Ops, sorry for not dropping a link for the P-38 download but that's the one ;)
  5. Sweet, I just downloaded AFCAD and TTools. It's a good day to stay inside and learn something, and a great way to start off the new year ;)

Thanks firehawkordy, I'll give the default with a twitch a try. Strange you lost jet engine, atc sounds. Did this happen after you downloaded the new codecs? I know this sounds silly, but are you sure your sound is turned up. Another thing you might want to check is the output and make sure it's going to your speakers and not headphones or something. Dunno, pretty weird. Good luck with it.
  7. Wow Top_Gun, that looks pretty neat. Did you do all this using the AFCAD program? That really brings a whole new dimension to the game.
  8. X45

I had the same trouble. I finally gave up trying to use the Saitek program that would let me use ALL the buttons on the X in FS2004, and just used the FS2004 controls setup in the game. I did setup my TrackIR centering (F12) in the Saitek program cause it was the only way I could get it to work in FS2004. Sounds confusing I know, and it is, but there was no way I could get the F12 button to work through the FS control settings program to where I could hit a button on my X45 and make it know it was the F12 button. What I ended up with is a FS2004 profile that has one purpose. To center the TrackIR. Wow, I just got dizzy thinking about it. It would be nice to use the Saitek program to create a profile that would allow the use of all the buttons on the X45 in FS2004, but I haven't found it yet, nor have I seen it online. I've seen some profiles, but they don't include anything that can't be done in the game itself ;)

firehawkordy, may I ask what you have your settings at in the sensitivity section for the rudder control. It seems like no matter what I do, the plane always over-reacts to the point I'm sure it looks like I'm doing combat zig-zag running down the runway. Maybe I just need to practice, but a starting point would be nice. Thanks :D
  10. No problem guys. Like I said, there may be more, but that's what I got so far. Also Chief, I know what you mean about computer time and the misses. I just remind her that this is a hobby, and she knows exactly where I am, and she is welcome to "hang" over my shoulder anytime she likes. She reminded me that she is a systems administrator, wants me to enjoy my hobby, and if she wants to know where I've been or what I'm doing online, it would be no problem for her to find out ;)

Falcon Six Two, I know what you mean about the rudder controls. I have an X45 which has a rocker type switch for the rudder control, but it sends me all over the place when I use it. I've toyed with the sensitivity and deadband till I'm blue in the face, and still no luck. So, what I do is use the stick to steer. Don't know if it works in all the planes, but I know it works in the Baron and the Cessna. Just a small left or right pressure on the stick and the plane controls fine, especially the Cessna which has a pull to the left due to the prop action.
  12. Hey guys, haven't had the game long (Christmas) but from what I can tell, the VC mode is suppose to be a more "real representation" of the planes cockpit. In regular cockpit mode, using my hatswitch to look around causes a snap look while in VC mode the hatswitch causes a smooth panning motion. It's possible to pan up down left or right, and just tapping the space key will return you view to the front of the plane without having to pan back. Another thing, if you have a TrackIR, you must be in VC mode for it to work. This is probably because of the panning mode that is enabled while in VC mode. Since I got both a TrackIR and FS2004 for Christmas, it has been great fun just flying around and trying different things and seeing how they work. It's fantastic, and I'll be real glad when the LockOn patch comes out so I can try the TrackIR with it. Sorry about going on about the TrackIR, but it's just a supper cool toy that has really added to the enjoyment of flight simming. Anyway, hope this helps in some way, and I'm sure there may be more to it than that, but that's what I've seen so far :D By the way, when I'm in VC mode, I usually drop my magnifacation back to .75 which gives a better FOV. It's the minus (-) key. Now, if I can figure out the NAV/VOR stuff...
  13. Addon Help

Hey firehawkordy, I've only added one aircraft and the St. Kitts scenery so far but there was a readme included in the zip file for both on how to add them. I just followed the readme and everthing went smooth as silk. One thing I noticed in the St. Kitts readme that I'm not sure about was something about using AFCAD to do something with the aircraft. Don't know about AFCAD yet, but the scenery seemed to run ok ;)
  14. My Daughter Just Told Me I Listen To....

Turn her on to Kasmir by Led Zepplin. She will come around.
  15. Fast Eagle Is A Fraud...

Not a real trashman? What are you really trying to say. I take it out all the time. And LIKE IT!! Trash is our friend, cause if we didn't have it, well, we would be broke. And that is worse than not having it. I may be drunk.
  16. Fast Eagle Is A Fraud...

Jack? Aghhhhh. Crown and coors here. oh yeah. gettin drunk en esse :)
  17. Fast Eagle Is A Fraud...

Since I'm new here, I won't say much about this bootcamp wanna be flying ace. He was a dink, and as we all know, they are out there. I was a boiler tech in the Navy, bustin ass like everyone else to keep the ship running, and I had some of the best friends of my life on that ship. I'm just glad that most here are who they claim, and I think this is a great flyin sim place to be. There are some great people here. Don't let it screw you up. Theres always gonna be a dick in the crowd. Like the old saying goes...well, you know what it is, and yes, feed em fish heads is part of it. Now, back to flying something and having a great time :) ps: I suck at communications. so bite me.
  18. ya, she let me have it early :) Now, I got civ and combat. Going for more RAM now :)
  19. My wife bought FS2004 for me for Christmas, then she wrapped it and stuck it under the tree. :o I'm begging and pleading with her to let me open it just to get the disk out, but she's holding with a firm NO! I even tried throwing a fit and pouting, but she said, and I quote, "that kind of action doesn't become a man of your age" Then she told me that she also ordered me a TrackIR, but it won't be here until around the 23rd or so cause they had a 5 to 7 day shipping delay due to high demand. I smiled again. It's been a long time since I have wanted Christmas to hurry. I truely feel like a little kid again. :) Hey NavyChief...you still got some cool addons for me?
  20. Hey Smoke Eater, don't know much about Radeons in general, but I have a 9800 Pro I picked up from a friend for $100 who owed me anyway and it works great. Till now I've just had Nvidias, but sounds like Indy_BIA is onto a good deal at pricewatch for the Radeon 9600 Pro for $126. Just be careful ordering online. It's easy to get burned. Make sure they are a reputable company with a good track record. Good luck in your hunt.
  21. only is the best way to learn flying in general? I mean using the instruments until it is second nature. Just a newb here looking for the best way to develop some good flying skills. Any recommendations highly appreciated. Thanks :)
  22. switch, that is what I was talking about. I've started focusing on just using the instruments to fly and navigate the plane while having my fov pointed down to only show the instrument panel. This has helped me tremendously in learining to read and interput what each instrument does and it's relationship to the attitude of the plane. So far I've focused on the Su-27, as that is the plane I know best from my 2 months of flying Flanker 2.51. (my get ready flight sim for LockOn) One thing I am having trouble with is navigation to the airport and landing. But I need to watch a couple tutorials again and take some notes and try again :) I also hope this will help with my SA. Don't know, will just have to see. Thanks for the response guys. I know this may sound newbish, but this instrument only flying is great fun!!
  23. The Way Things Used To Be....

Thanks navychief for the great trip down memory lane. Man, how times have changed. I was in the Navy from 74 thru 78, and looking back it was some of the best times I ever had. I'll never have friends like that again I'm afraid. Hope this country turns around soon, or I'm afraid where in for a long haul.
  24. Well Mr. Mudd, looks like I picked a good time to break my finger (ring finger, throttle hand) working on my truck. This gives you around 4 to 6 weeks to take a break. Then it's back to work making those great tutorials again for me so I can learn to fly this incredible sim the way it is meant to be :) That's right and proper you know. Actually, you could go a little longer I guess as I have a stack of ground school work to do also. Seriously, thanks for your help, and look to see you back when your ready. Boltz
  25. First post here, and real new to flight sims. One of the reasons I registered here was to tell Mr. Mudd how incredible and invalueble his videos and written scenarios are to me. This kind of information just doesn't hardly exist on the internet, at least not in this detail. I will be very busy for a very long time just studying and practicing his tutorials. I have finally found the website with the information I was looking for, and just wanted to express a big thanks. Great job all, and Mr. Mudd, you are one of the finest assests this sim community has. Thank you.
