  1. Highly interesting: Red Flag lecture

    - this thread is bulls**t... - yes the IAF is very capable and the Flanker is a killer - yes the JASDF are some of the most professional pilots you will ever meet any where, period (I flew with/against them for five freakin years) - RED FLAG was NEVER and will NEVER be a "my country is better than your country party", period freakin dot...get over it... - and yes aggressors fly tactics meant to MIMIC what we expect to see...but it is just that...just like football practice, yo watch tapes, study the playbook, and do your best - read the new book "Red Eagles"...among many things, it discusses the formation of RED FLAG...it was designed (and still is) to teach pilots how to survive their first 10 combat missions by showing them as best as we could what to expect...obviously it is still a "laboratory" and can NEVER be realistic enough to start throwing national pride around - seriously that this thread has dwindled into jocularity is exactly why I miss the old column5 forum... - dude, seriously dont be the guy invited over to the "kegger" and puke in the potted plants and then try to mack on the host's girl...you do a great dis-service to the IAF by this bulls**t
  2. wow! had a model of one of these when I was young(er)...was always amazed that it flew so well, being so damn ugly...truly pretty is as pretty does...my grandfather flew in one of these as a grunt going to far off lands...
  3. "rolling radius" I think affects the radius of the tires...you have to tell the game engine how big the tires are since it really does not "see" the tires per se (again I am no expert, but have adjusted this factor sometimes to fix "sinking"). "rolling coefficient" affects the drag induced by the rubber (tyres for you Brits) in the game engine...so a B-52 or C-5 would have a significantly higher rolling coefficient than say an F-16 (again I did not code the game, just noticing what happens when you change it and why that would be). I agree with Fubar (dont tell him though) and the factors that make the "real" V1 in a real airplane contribute in the game engine, which would be chiefly drag/lift ratios...again remember though (before anybody with an aerospace degree chimes in, I wanted to keep the answer less than a few pages) that TK calls this a "game", it is not "X-Plane"...he is certainly more than talented enough to make the code do whatever he wants, but then you quickly get into "feature creep" which is exactly why PC gaming is dwindling faster than my IRAs...
  4. awesome, thanks for this release!
  5. seriously though...I use the Russian Speech pack and it is way better...period...I was quite disappointed when I purchased WOI and was greeted by the exact same voices... am thinking of porting some iL-2 voices over...next big snow day...
  6. Jane's USAF on XP

Hey, no doubt 14 of you will tell me you already knew it and 4 of you will argue that it is not possible...so whatever...I just dusted off my seemingly ancient copy of Jane's USAF...and it works! Am using XP SP2 with all of the most recent updates and the USAF patch to version 1.02F (which, among other things fixes the stuck at 800x600 apparently). Am NOT messing with any compatibility mode or any of the "work arounds"...maybe windows lackeys fixed something in one of the recent updates, I really do not know...makes me wonder if some other games are golden withOUT DOSbox or whatever. >>> NOTE: I am NOT in any way saying that it will now work on your particular machine...just saying that if you are like me and deleted this very fine game years ago due to its XP issues, now may be the chance to bring it out again. Did NOT do any mods...just inserted the CD, installed, patched to 1.02F, and enjoyed some tasty goodness >>> You are on your own if the above procedure does not work for you. >>> I did NOT use admin-whatever or any of the other mods...just a straight install >>> Why bother? Well, USAF actually had something called GCI...and though the graphics cannot compare to 3dwire...maybe consider it some nostalgia? cheers
  7. Cylon is an F-15 callsign, usually reserved for Red Flag... Awacs: Cowboy, Focus, Dragnet, Chalice (that is dumb, a cup?), Goliath (most famous loser in history, beat by a kid), and the aforementioned Darkstar. Even more confusing, Darkstar calls itself Vikings and Chalice calls itself Phoenix on their patches (I think, something really off like that). But of course the 67th Fighter Squadron at Kadena callsign is Cock... Oh, and speaking of Kadena, Cowboy used to be Brigham, but obviously that chaffs some people...
  8. personally, wont be shooting at this one; rather, it will be awesome using it in the anti-shipping role and personally I cant wait to use it in the Bering Straits terrain to bring some nightmares to life those of you lining up to shoot at this beauty are lacking in imagination...
  9. Foxbat

if you think about it...essentially a Mach 3 capable, very expensive interceptor going against a drone...one could say that is not really a smart use of resources, especially in the age of decoys
  10. Jane's USAF on XP

dont know...just now found out this somewhat worked again...there are of course quite a few add-ons etc for USAF...adding a new plane is possible but a bit laborious...good stuff at McFly Aviation
  11. Jane's USAF on XP

    - AWACS is dynamic in game (at least it seems so...bad guys are where they indicate) - SP3 ? Hmmm...I do not use that...
  12. Look the size of this O.o

bred for its skills in magic?
  13. Jane's USAF on XP

just curious...are you certain that you updated everything? think the secret is in one of the updates and I know I am usually bad about not accepting windows updates
  14. awesome, very important tank! thanks!
  15. - actually Calvin joined 4 years ago...he just believes "silence is golden"...
  16. tomorrow...or next Tuesday...could go either way...
  17. Kennedy Assassination

dudes...the smoking man fired the shot from a street drain and framed Oswald...saw the whole thing...
  18. also check this: Nose: RollingRadius=0.1 [LeftGear] RollingRadius=1.0 "rolling radius" essentially tells it how big the tires are...you have a factor of ten off from the nose and main gear...might want to check that...
  19. OMG!

    eh...where is "Ussia"?
  20. someone taught me this trick: F-19 site:combatace.com put that in Google...it still inst 100% but better than picking through someone else recipe box...though digging through that file structure can sometimes yield surprise goodies...
  21. FC, thanks for the discussion...the thread that you linked (Blood for Oil) did not turn up for me in a Google search (and you know my feelings for the website not-so-search feature) otherwise I would have followed that earlier I like Le Missioneur better than KMD for me because it is easier to learn...and it recognized the carriers that I dropped in (plus it has a "force take off from this location" feature)
  22. OMG!

though this was a funny quote: "more like got your car to model for your girlfriend"
  23. I like Le Missioneur...and it has an English option...
