C-5A GALAXY
sparkomatic replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
freakin awesome! cheers -
So after a malaria attack, I take a pill, and then the screen goes in and out of focus for about 30 minutes of real time...tried going to a safe house and "napping" for a few hours to let the equivalent game time pass...nothing...the game lets you play for 30 minutes just fine, then 30 minutes of blurred vision. Playing v1.03 (latest patch since it auto-patches) and this is a real show stopper. Tried two characters (Josip and Paul) and same thing. Since one has to endure the tutorial every time one changes character, no way I am going to keep trying new characters. Any ideas? Understand that Malaria drives the plot...but freaking really? Half an hour of real time the screen blurs? Stupid and a real deal breaker. Please help, cheers

found some cheats enabled through the .xml file...that seemed to return the malaria sickness level back to level-1, which is as you described. with this out of the way, it really is a fun game...yes, the instantly regenerated guard posts can be a bit tedious, but there are often routes around them, though time consuming cheers

Talon Fix for WOI
sparkomatic replied to Dreamstar's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
That worked for the swing wings, thanks! Gives me a chance to fix some of the canopy animations of other airplanes. But that did not work for the engine's exploding issue...so I tried this: OverheatTemp=5300.0 Dont forget to change it for all 30 engines! Was able to push it to 100% AB 'til it ran out of fuel...also was able to climb to 145k (FL140) with this change. For me at least, the airplane disappears above 112,000 feet and you only have the HUD. Thanks again for this great airplane though, after adding the RCS tweaks from the DESERT STORM Mod, it is a real blast to fly around! Cheers -
F-15SE Silent Eagle
sparkomatic replied to Commander_92's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Uh...did you actually read the post? Avionics was one of the principle things that I mentioned...and what I mentioned was completely in regard to the game...and since this particular thread is in the forum titled "Wox General Discussion" it relates tot he game. How can you replicate improved mission capable rates (the age of the airframe and its maintenance issues) in this game? cheers -
F-15SE Silent Eagle
sparkomatic replied to Commander_92's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Look at what the USN did with the Hornet --> Super Hornet...not a bad idea at all, especially since the F-22A line will be closed and there are no where near enough front line fighters. An "SE" could use the APG-63v5 and a modern "computer" plus fix the wiring issues and enhance a few other features. Worked on an F-15X-mod for the game, but quickly realized that one cant get the feel (or get into the classified info realm) that a real "modernized" F-15 would be. Unfortunately in this game the only difference you could really enjoy would be the exterior model...maybe take the avionics (read HUD) from that awesome F-35 v2.0, change the weight (reduced), but you would not get the same effects in the game. You would basically be limited to making the external model changes, then "borrowing" the avionics files / HUD from the F-35 as well as the RCS and ECM features of it as well. Then it would take about 1 day before someone posted "hey! this is just an F-15 with a bent tail and stuff from the F-35...what a rip off!?!?!!!11!" Having said that, the above picture is really awesome and it would be cool if they decided to release it. cheers -

Modern F-16 cockpit
sparkomatic replied to ST0RM's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
just curious...noted that the F-18A left MFD works fine...how can one take the sweet stuff from it and cram it into the F-16C cockpit? Obvious that probably transcends a quick reply, but is it possible/feasible? cheers -

sparkomatic replied to gbreuder's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
not stupid at all, am wondering the same thing...the H-model was quite different from the previous editions...read and re-read all of the readme files and am still wondering...the config file also points to a b-52H.lod as well cheers -

I always adjust the target values in the terrain folder in the file called "map name"_TYPES...it is usally the line marked "TargetValue="...set this to zero and it will not be a problem. Only way I found to finally eliminate that damnevilcommbuilding. Cheers -

Points for Natalie Portman...but trashing the Daleks? Did you watch the B&W version or the re-imaged versions in the current years...they fly, cant really tip over something that flies and they really couldnt make them fly in the 1960s since I think they had a 4 pounds, 3 shillings (or whatever) budget. Go watch that damn robot dog again and tell me we were any better. cheers

the Transformers was a big surprise...was a huge fan years ago (I know) and was quite concerned they would screw it up in the Hulk, Spiderman 3, etc way...not at all (at least IMHO). GIJoe maybe has a chance. Star Trek? So many bad movies, it is a bit like Batman...maybe they will get it right this time. cheers, and Yo Joe! Oh, and how to balance the natural cheesiest of GIJoe without ruining it for modern viewers and drifting too far away for the nostalgic types? Think That transformers hit that stride... cheers

I flew the mighty Turbo-wienie many years ago...still one of my favorites! Had bought the FS9 edition by alphasim...but didnt really like it too much...it bounced too easy on landing (which the real one didnt)...additionally, some of the performance numbers were off (the real one's best climb rate was surprisingly not far from its stall speed, quirky I know)...it flew like a trusty old pick-up truck, friendly/forgiving/faithful...you really had to do something stupid for it to bite you and even then it was more of a nip. Having said that, the FSX edition is way better. Though it completely trashed my FPS...went from a respectable 24 FPS (on a workhorse of a 7600GT w/ 512Mb on the card) down to a slideshow 4...yep, four FPS. So now I need a new video card as I have been waiting for a chance to fly this bugger again for over 12 years. It is in so many ways better than the FS9 version...it just feels right. The engine sounds close, but it is not a recording of the real one...the real PT-26A had the distinct sound of a rattling in the distance...not unlike a pebble was caught in a 1,800 RPM dryer...but the engine sound is quite respectable here. There are already a number of free textures out there, so NPAS (CTW6) is available and even a full NPAS scenery upgrade on flightsim.com (registration is free) can be had. It has some "neat" features like instrument hood, VLE, and blah blah...it has GPS, but back when I flew them the engine gauges were on the left side of the instrument panel and the fuel gauges were on the right...here they moved all of the engine gauges to the right to make way for the GPS...GPS? Things have changed. It is also missing the ashtray (no kidding!) on the starboard side just above the oxygen mask connector. Hey, it was built in the 1950-ish era. But if I have the time to comment about a missing ashtray, then obviously this is a good deal Not for everyone...she wont like your hair on fire, but she is fully aerobatic...and CV capable...if you like tooling around/practicing ILS approaches/and occasional aerobatics...then this one is for you! By the by, if you take it online, the T-34C is (was) a fine formation trainer...you would be surprised how close you can comfortable be (with smooth air) in this thing...though if you have a network lag/"skip" it might not be as easy as in the real thing. Oh, I am not in any way compensated by alphasim...just the opposite, I paid them. The going price is about $30 and given that you can pick up PSX for $38 it might be a bit steep. Plus, alphasim has a habit of releasing their stuff as freeware when they replace it (as in you can get the FS9 edition for free, from them), but given that Aces Studio closed, that might be a long while. Let me know what you think, cheers!

"not a pound for air to ground" - that answers it - things change, but that is the mantra the USAF had back in the 1970s cheers

my opinion only...this book SUCKS! And the really scary part is this: "Matthew Stover stated on his blog that "Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor is my attempt to get the EU back to its pre-Zahn roots -- specifically, to evoke memories of my all-time favorite Star Wars books, Brian Daley's Han Solo novels." "pre-Zahn novels"...sure, and I want to drive a wagon train to work every day...plus this book is literally brimming with "hit like a Xanthanian womprat on a fast hyperspace lane express"...I truly HATE those quips...they were not in any of the canon dialogues (other than "nerf herder") and they detract...why dont they go all original BSG and call it a "centon" or whatever? I really had thought it would be a good read, but the author ruined it for me...hopefully the novels do NOT NOT NOT start following this style...getting through the waste of time that "Revelation" was I consider insulting enough..and just read a clip regarding the new series...does not look good. I mean the last series would have been a great 3-book series...but man there was so much padding to make it 9 books in order to make more money...really sad...looks like they are going to ruin the EU forever...oh and also didnt like how the last series seemed to have to have a EU character die in every other book...sad...and will NEVER understand why killing Mara was his path to Sith-dom...that was just lame...you could tell they wanted the outrage of killing Chewy (ie, selling books and garnering attention) but did not have the political backing to get one of the "big names"...pale attempt and stupid reasoning... cheers

Am anticipating CN3...if it disappoints then that is alright since my Amazon order arrived today...about 9 volumes on Bushido and one excellent MiG-21 units in Viet Nam Especially if the FotJ series starts off like the last series, no way I want to trudge through that again
