1957: A Long Cold Winter
December 1957. As part of the heightened tension caused by the Cold War and the end of the Korean War. The Soviet Union has added an additional 50 mile exclusion zone in the Bering Strait. The USSR maintains that the "extremely hostile posture" of the US warrants this move to keep the "integrity of its borders" intact. The United States calling the USSR's move has beefed up firepower in the region. Several "incidents" involving opposing aircraft has turned this into a full blown shooting match.....
