It's been a busy week unrelated to gaming, so right now I may look into the Double Digit SAM Mod (I think that's what it's called, anyway) as another way to look into the just-released manual. That'll be the next one to tackle. I tried to fire IIR Mavs on the Hornet to practice shooting at a Tunguska (had regular vehicles to get the procedure down, but it was crossed out even though I think the Maser Arm was on, so I will have to look into that sometime soon), so I think Mavs can be used on it, without getting shot at, I don't know. I also have to see if the ECM that is internal will work on it, or not. I have Smelly's script, but it's modded by somebody else to work only with the Growler, and that's more realistic, so I'll see sometime.
Flanker562 Posted May 30 Author Posted May 30 I managed to fire up DCS today, and got the Tunguska covered more or less. I need confirmation if it can shoot down missiles, but I don't expect it to though, never heard of it, but this has been updated maybe, so if it does, I would appreciate the knowledge for the write up, which is done now. I won't upload until I do the Tor next (SA-15), so right now I'll chill out and work on the Tor in the upcoming week. I remember from the DCS Ironhand guide that the Tor at higher skill would shoot the Mav down, and pretty sure the JSOW would be shot down due to the slow speed and so on. Not much in the future. I may look at currenthill's AIM-174B and see if he does things differently than what NIGHTSTORM did, maybe it's just file structure, or maybe it's truly borked mod-wise for the foreseeable future. Other than the future patch update, I'll see what happens when the next patch and see if that's going to work now. Other than that not much planned.
Flanker562 Posted May 31 Author Posted May 31 Okay looked at the AIM-174B mod from currenthill, and it's like Nightstorm's mod, so it's just as borked as the AIM-120D that I want to do. So essentially the missile mod is dead in the water, since I was hoping for something different to maybe work with, to get it moving along. I miss the AIM-120D, and I'm sure people do too. But ED either redid some things, or unintentionally messed things up, so we're in this situation. I think tomorrow I'll play with the Tor though. I do need to get confident in the IIR Mav at least, maybe I can do a shoot with an E against this one, but I expect it like the A-10C II when I tried it years ago. So we'll see how it goes, and I'll upload a version with that data, to keep things moving along.

Flanker562 Posted June 3 Author Posted June 3 Right now, I did a quick write-up of the SA-8, and may leave it to that. I'm not sure what else to add since I did the bigger SAMs, and I may look into a Modded SAM system. But I need to do the SA-9/13, and I think I'll wrap it up tomorrow. Unless somebody has a burning desire to know something, I think those two will be it for the Hornet manual. I tried looking into the High-Digit SAM mod, and I really don't feel like downloading individual files from the GitHub (why is the concept of Google Drive lost on the author of the mod?), unless there's a mirror somewhere, I don't see me messing with it, and will look more like into the Mod document than anything else, to add to what currenthill did. So yeah, I'll finish those up, and then get it published on the User Files, and again, if you need to add something, don't hesitate to ask or let me know.

I will be getting as a present to myself the Heatblur F-4E because I think it'll be a guilty pleasure. I'll be doing some kind of Ironhand manual eventually for it, so there's that, and work on other manuals as I see fit. I don't want to do too much of them, because I do have a life, and simming isn't everything, unless you fly a lot, or something. Please don't bring up the controversy about Heatblur and its products. Save that for the official forums and Discord (it's pretty brutal with the F-14B(U) update, and I'll leave it at that as of this post) and so on, not for this topic, which is concerned about my limited modding of DCS, and the document work that I do when I do it. Thanks for your understanding.
Flanker562 Posted Sunday at 05:13 PM Author Posted Sunday at 05:13 PM Well, I couldn't wait until I got the F-4E, so down the road when I get more comfortable with it, I'll probably do some kind of document like the Hornet in the future, probably within a month or less once I get comfortable shooting stuff. Right now, there's just waiting on the next patch, and hopefully ED is figuring out the issue with the AIM-120s, so we can have better ranged AMRAAMs and such. I need to inform Nightstorm that I'll be using some of his work. I had an issue with another game over that, and don't want to start any drama or problems with him if he resurfaces or whatnot. Otherwise, no work on Ironhand manuals, but I am thinking of a more generic one, as I recall from my Flanker 2.51 days. Sure, it was a different game, but it's appealing to revisit some of the stuff with the new tech in DCS.
