Arthur07 Posted yesterday at 04:36 AM Posted yesterday at 04:36 AM I need some help. I moved my "Saved Games" folder to another drive, but now that I’ve reinstalled *Strike Fighters 2*, it doesn’t recognize the new location—it’s still locked to the C drive. Is there a way to make it recognize the "Saved Games" folder on my new drive? I heard there’s a way to do this, but I’m not sure how...
Arthur07 Posted yesterday at 04:38 AM Author Posted yesterday at 04:38 AM The game launches, but it doesn't create any .ini files or anything else in the "saved games" folder; I need help, as I suspect the issue is that it can't find the "saved games" folder.
Wrench Posted yesterday at 06:56 AM Posted yesterday at 06:56 AM I guess looking in the Knowledge Base wasn't an Option? Here, have a look at this 2
Arthur07 Posted 20 hours ago Author Posted 20 hours ago Hello, first of all, thank you for responding. I want to clarify that I did check previous forum discussions to see if anyone else had experienced the same issue. I had already seen the information you sent, but it doesn't help in my case; that advice is for changing the location of an existing "Saved Games" folder, whereas my problem is that the game installs, but fails to create any folder or file in "Saved Games" at all—nothing whatsoever. So, with all due respect, I’m hoping someone else might have a solution.
Arthur07 Posted 19 hours ago Author Posted 19 hours ago I even tried taking the game folder—the one containing saved games—from a backup I had on another PC, but that didn’t work either. I pasted it onto my current PC and followed the steps from the forum, but still nothing. Essentially, the game refuses to recognize anything; it doesn’t register any changes at all—not even when I modify the resolution in the `.ini` file located in the game’s installation directory. I’m hoping someone can help me out; the game worked fine a few months ago, but now it doesn’t—ever since I moved my game library to a different drive. Interestingly, other games that also use that drive work perfectly.
DoctorQuest Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Let me look at my set up and get back to you. This may be a problem with the OPTIONS.INI file. When you change the OPTIONS.INI file in the default \Users\Saved Games\Thirdwire\**mod folder name** to point to a NEW mod folder I believe SF2 starts using the OPTIONS.INI in the NEW folder. All options in the default OPTIONS.INI will be be overridden by the NEW folders OPTIONS.INI. What a minute....reread your OP. I don't think you can move the "Saved Games" folder. That is a Windows folder that needs to live under your \Users folder. Now.....you can move the contents of the Thirdwire folder that lives in the "Saved Games" folder. At that point my first suggestion and, hopefully, the Knowledge Base article will start working for you. 1
Arthur07 Posted 13 hours ago Author Posted 13 hours ago For some reason, the game is no longer creating any .ini files. I tried reinstalling it, but that didn't help. It fails to create the "ThirdWire" folder in the "Saved Games" directory. I initially thought it might be because I had moved the "Saved Games" folder to a different drive, so I moved it back to the drive, but that didn't change anything. The game simply won't generate any .ini files; it launches without creating the "ThirdWire" folder in "Saved Games" at all. I don't know what to do. If anyone has a different installer for the game or knows of a solutionanother user on a forum experienced the exact same issue, where the game fails to create the folder used for storing mods and the "options.ini" file please let me know.
Muesli Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Sounds like you wanted to change a lot all at the same time. No way of retracing your steps then? So I understand a vanilla install doesn't work, without any tinkering and as a clean startup? I am afraid that you're cooked, or need to review what to do with the system you want to install it on. There are too much variables we cannot see and we do not have access to. That sucks for you, man. Hope you get it solved!
Arthur07 Posted 40 minutes ago Author Posted 40 minutes ago Last night I had more time to look into what was happening, and I managed to fix it; I simply changed the executable's compatibility mode from Windows 8 to Vista and checked the box to always run the program as an administrator that solved it. I hope this forum post proves helpful if anyone else encounters the same issue in the future.
