Hi.

I'm a newby in this group.

Coming from F4, I'm starting to appreciate the simplicity of

this SF1 simulator... as I read somewhere "the fun is back".

Gorgeous graphics.

Easy avionics and weapons system.

Just focus on mission and tactics and have fun.

Maybe the campaign engine could be a little more "featured".

But the real thing I lack is terrain variance.

I'm flying WOE and am getting bored by the flat german landscape.

Is there any way to "recompile" the terrain files so that we can change

the elevations?

I remember that the F4 Korean theatre had the same "flat terrain" problem.

Then the community discovered the possibility to "raise mountains" simply by

multipling the original elevations by 1.3 or 1.4, a tool was published, etc.

Do we have in WOE a tool to edit terrain files and change the elevations?

Most mods and utilities work across the Third Wire product line (SFP1, SFP1 Gold, WoE, WoV) since the core engine is the same.

Period items like ground objects may be slightly different but they can be made to work with some fiddling around.

ThirdWire just posted a new terrain editor at their site. I am not a terrain maker so I cannot help you with specifics.

Yes, the publisher's Terrain Editor has an elevation multiplier. But the basic problem is....well...Western Europe. That's why I am slowly working on a 1500km map centered on Lake Baikal that covers Mongolia and Siberia, its very immersive terrain, from Mongolian desert mountains to southern Siberian forests. Its 1500km so its a bit larger than the stock terrain maps, but shucks, its still too small for Strategic Air Command and PVO operations. :dntknw:

False colour coded view, depending on altitude and and terrain type...

Kamchatka terrain Rules! But I need something closer to central USSR, and less dominated by open ocean. Also, I'm using 1500km maps, and the Kamchatka penninsula is rather small at that scale, as is the strip of USSR to the north. Focusing more to the south on the Sea of Okhotsk and Sakhalin, a standard type of SF Kamchatka campaign, in the spirit of the DBS campaign, would be very immersive terrain wise no matter the date from 1950s to 1980s.

Exactly my point. We'd have all sorts of ground objects, nasty, layered SAM defenses, and a tough EWR net to penetrate.

Guys Consier I.C.B.M. sites too!!!!

Wath a wonderfull target!!!!!
