shawnfergie Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 Hey everybody, I'm somewhat new to Wings over Vietnam and Wings over Europe. I've got both games running together. I've patched the game with the newest patch on thirdwire. I've installed the weapons pack and placed a lot of different aircraft in the game and most work fine like the F-15C,D,E and F-16 block 10 - 52. My F-14A and F/A - 18A works fine too. The problem I have is that my S-3 Viking, Mi-24 Hind, E-2C Hawkeye , AH-1 G&W and other various aircraft are in the directory correctly (or so I think). I'm wondering if for some reason the patch isn't letting the aircraft work or what is going on or if anyone could give me some advice because i'm new to troubleshooting this game. My friend who also has the game with but without the patch, the same planes work on his computer, he also has WOV and WOE together but those addons work. My final problem is that the helicopter on my game are pitching up and down uncontrollably. My friend has these helos and they fly fine. My pc with the patch won't fly them. PLEASE HELP!! shawnfergie Quote

PLEASE HELP!! shawnfergie Check the file which you have downloaded, I had the same problem with the Viking as well. I unzip the file had it on the desk top and moved it into the aircraft folder try to fly the Viking and nothing in the game. Turns out the file were really a file with in a file, for example the file I had put in the aircraft file was named some like this [1234] Viking that was the folder I put in the game. Well that was wrong, what I need was the file contained within, it was just named Viking. So I made a copy pasted it into the aircraft file and it worked. I hope this helps you, sorry if I didn’t do such a great job explaining what to do, I don’t know the technical names for much when it comes the files I learned everything I know from trial and error. SayethWhaaaa Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 (edited) Yeah, Redddevil's right. Basically, when you unzip a new aircraft for any of he SFP sims, just double check that the folder layout doesn't resemble something like this: WingsOverEurope\Objects\Aircraft\S-3Viking\S-3Viking This won't work and in game you won't see the model. Normally when someone uploads a model here they'll usually place everything in a zip folder with the same name of the aircraft. Just make sure when you cut and paste the model that it's the main model folder not \S-3Viking\S-3Viking. As for the helicopters, there's a thrust vectoring control in the controls menu. You'll need to be able to use thrust vectoring to be able to control choppers in this sim, same with the Harriers. It can be a little tricky at first, but once you get a feel for it, it'll be gold. Well i figured something out. My problem with the S-3b took an interesting turn because after i couldn't get the combatace S-3b file to work. I downloaded the same model from a different site, the fist of the fleet website with mostly navy and marine corp planes. This was exact same model by the same people, I extracted the files the same and everything but the fist of the fleet viking works perfect. I'm wondering what is different between the combatace files and the fist of the fleet files because when i check the folder size they were both the same. I wonder if this would work with my other planes and helos that won't show up too..?? Any advice? Thanks again for the help. Shawnfergie Quote
SayethWhaaaa Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 The files from modder's/mod team sites that can be found here are identical to the ones found on their respective pages. I had the same problem with a certain Soviet Mi-24 too. I'd run the game, load out my Hind and start but in my case it would crash to desktop. I'm pretty sure that that particular model was faulty, and I'm assuming it's been removed because I can't seem to find it here anymore (I can't remember whose model it was). I've been using Capun's nice East German Hind and haven't been having any problems at all. It could be something as simple as a bad download. Are you doing anything to it (ie adding skins etc) to the model you're using or are you trying to use it straight from download? Quote

Nope just trying them straight from download and then if they work i'll add skins or addons to the airframe. What i've been doing now is just adding the new planes or addons to the game and immediatly test them to see if they work. About 90% of them work except the mi-24, e2c, a-1helos, and other assorted ones. I've downloaded some ww2 planes and some other helo downloads to see if they will work but i've been away from the computer for a day and haven't had a chance to test them.. Quote

shawnfergie Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 I have found that sometimes when i download a file for an addon aircraft, the type of zipfile can affect whether or not it will work ok, this is just my experiance! That's what i've noticed that win zip files don't have a problem but if its a winrar file the chances that it will work isn't as likely. I found that the P-40 I downloaded in the WW2 section won't load. I'm gonna see if I need a new version of winrar or something. Thanks again Shawn fergie Quote
