What is the airbase of 332sq? Is that Edwards? You fly F-22 Raptor?

I got my nick/callsign from Dice and Goose. I was first the only one on Dice his site that come from the Netherlands.

In my mind I remember that my country had a 332squadron.

And I found it out. It was in the WW2, they flew Spitfires from bases in England.

The pilots of the 332nd wanted to make sure that Allied bobmer crews and enemy pilots could easily identify them. As a result, the 332nd did not camouflage their aircraft. Instead, the painted the tails of their P-51 Mustangs with the reddest of red paint that they could find. After about 100 escort missions with a batting average of no losses, the bomber crews started referring to them as the "Red Tail Angels."

 

The Red Tail Angels of the 332nd would end the war as the only fighter group to never lose an escorted bomber to enemy fighters. The Tuskegee Airmen downed 111 enemy fighters, including three of the eight Messerschmitt ME-262 jets shot down by the Allies during the war. The group also destroyed countless targets during harrowing ground attack missions and even sunk a German destroyer with machine gun fire. Sixty-six Tuskegee Airmen gave their lives in combat.

332 Sqn RNoAF was established 15 January 1942 in England and is currently flying the F-16 MLU.

Sqn callsign: Eagle

Its not uncommon for more then one unit/sqd to share a number set but its the record that seperates them and as stated none can compair the the 332/99th Fighter SQds record or the raciesum they faced at home.

I totally agree Ranger332 - that record is indeed impressive!! A couple of months ago I read "Chappie", the life and times of Daniel James Jr. and the racism described there makes the record of these units even more impressive! Thanks to officers like Col. Benjamin O. Davis Jr. and "Chappie" your nation and Air Force have come a long Way!

 

BTW, 332 sqn RNoAF had 66.5 kills, 11.5 probables and 49.5 damaged from Jan 42 to VE day. Own losses: 36
