+Fates Posted June 9, 2003 Posted June 9, 2003 Boxboy, I have virtually the identical system except the following: 1 Gig DDR 2700 AMD 2400 CPU 40GB WD and I've Got the 9700 PRo All-in-Wonder I had some lockup issues at first with the Walmart release....but they were mostly associated with multiplayer. Did you purchase the CD from Walmart? If this is true, you may need contact Strategy First and have them send you a new one...and then install the service pack 1 on top of it. Walmart was suppose to remove all those CD from service, I think ....but you never know Here's what I would try: Uninstall the game Reinstall the CD only....NO patch Test for lockups You may have received the Patch file and it was corrupt for some reason. I'll follow this thread to see what else I can do to help you. Cheers! Fates Quote

Guest Ranger332 Posted June 10, 2003 Posted June 10, 2003 might want to try a fresh reinstall after you do a complet uninstall, check the folder to make sure it was all deleated, then reinstall it and without doing anything get the service patch (one is located here at this site in the downloads section) then try the game. boxboy28 Posted June 12, 2003 Author Posted June 12, 2003 Well ive tryed every thing you guys suggested but no luck! Quote
Guest Ranger332 Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 Ok as yuo have xp left click the icon to start the game -- click properties find the compatablity tag then try the different windows settings till you find one the works on one of my pc win millenium, the other it works best at 98. See what is best for you. Quote
+Tiwaz Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 You could also try reducing your sound hardware acceleration in your dxdiag to basic or no acceleration. Quote
boxboy28 Posted June 14, 2003 Author Posted June 14, 2003 ok tried everything from reducing sound acceratation to Zero then bumped it up slowly, Removed it and reistalled it(with out patch), changed compatability properties to all options, Every thing is the same! INSTANT ACTION - lock up after i here bitching betty say CAMPAIN - CTD crash to desktop SINGLE MISSION - lock up after i here bitching betty I even tried Emailing stratagy first and the dumb A$$ who emailed me back told me to download the 3.4 DETENATOR drivers ( ya i used to own a GEFORCE CARD SO I KNOW) but i knew what he ment even thought in my initial email i stated that i had the 3.4 Catalyst drivers(same as i posted up top) still at aloss got now clue.......................I hear its a cool ass SIM but still cant play it in any MODE....................... +Dagger Posted June 14, 2003 Posted June 14, 2003 theres issues with the ATI cards...for some reason.try it using software video settings. Quote
Beer Posted June 14, 2003 Posted June 14, 2003 I have read post where when the AGP setting in the bios were changed from say 8x (or Auto) to 4x that that solved the problem...since you have tried the other stuff try that. Cheers Beer Quote
boxboy28 Posted June 15, 2003 Author Posted June 15, 2003 dagger ill try that. Beer with my MOBO and the newest bios its automatically set to 8x w/o the option to go 4x. Im thinking about flashing itr back to an older Bios but havent yet. Quote
boxboy28 Posted June 15, 2003 Author Posted June 15, 2003 theres issues with the ATI cards...for some reason.try it using software video settings. What do you mean exactly? Quote
Seawolf Posted June 15, 2003 Posted June 15, 2003 If you haven't already- Turn OFF fastwrites under smartgart and in your bios. Quote
Beer Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 Fates and I have the same motherboard as you (we are running 2.4 AMD's). Two things stand out. 1. the Soundblaster (Fates and I are using on board sound) 2. That Corsair RAM is not "approved" by ASUS for your board. I have 3200 DDR Samsung I Believe Fates is running 2700 DDR Samsung Perhaps pulling your soundblaster (Disable it) and seeing if that is it cause. Also ensure that the onboard audio is disabled (you know that I am sure, but had to mention it) so it does not confilt with the SB (run one or the other) I have successfully used the following video cards with SFP-1 on that ASUS board. GF4 4600ti, GF FX 5600 256 ATI 9800 Radeon Pro Fates is running the Radeon 9700 AIW Pro Don't think its a video card issue. Cheers Beer Quote
+Dagger Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 you have the SP1 for XP installed i'm sure..so what i meant was disable your video card and then try it using the on-board video.and make sure you have the latest drivers for sound card..I run a SB audigy x-gamer and had all kinda trouble with old drivers, not in SF as i already had them installed when SF came out. boxboy28 Posted June 16, 2003 Author Posted June 16, 2003 Beer you know im beguining to think it is a SOUND card issue. I hate the onboard sound and have problems with it in other games not to mention with my TV tuner card, So i think im gonna go out and pick up a new sound card like an Audigy 2 Do you play AH - Aces High as well? I have played several other gmaes and never had this kinda problem like Vietcong, Tony Hawk2,3,4, Aces High, IL2 demo....... Quote
boxboy28 Posted June 20, 2003 Author Posted June 20, 2003 well since i stumped ya all know i can tell you the good news! Its working - how well im not sure of but i got into instant action and flew for about 5 min fine. what was the problem - heat CPU too hot. CPU was running at 50 to 58 C degrees low to max load when game started it would put such a load on the CPU it would over heat and lock up. i was noticing a few lock up after playing ACES HIGH so i started to monitor my CPU temps and noticed it was getting up to around 60 Cdegreees this is when the problem occured. So i went out and got a new FAn the runs @7000 RPM for my heat sink and CPU (granted its load) but it dropped the temp to 36C (no load) to 48C max load , now i need to get some better air flow thru the case! thanks for all the attemps to help guys <S> spoke too soon went home on lunch and tryed playing a bit and after about 4/5 min it would lock up ! well its not getting too hot i recorded the temp till the lock up never got over 47C degrees. now it might be the sound acceration stuff so i got to play with it, + i left Sandra soft Burn in running when i left to see if that well tell me anything. boxboy28 Posted July 2, 2003 Author Posted July 2, 2003 it works i had to set the AGP to 4X instead of 8x ! Quote
